We always have a great 2 weeks camping along the Murray River from Swan Hill caravan park (we were right on the river bank) nice waking up 3mts from the water. To many other places along there to mention, always in Jan in the heat we love it .

Year after year at Easter, we and two other families camped on the banks of the Murray River and now the parents of the next generation want to do the same with their kids. Swimming, boating, fishing, playing cricket, reading, charades around the camp fire - there was something for everyone. The bush, the river, the stars and the company of friends made for the perfect Victorian holiday.

Camping in Nangiloc, near Mildura, is the way to go. There is that many different sand bars & you are always likely to find a spot that suits adults & kids. Nothing better than having a campfire & good mates.

Camping along the river close to Mildura is great fun. You can go for walks, fish from the bank or boat, sit and read a book around a campfire, or just enjoy the company of family & freinds. Being close to Mildura, you can still go into town for supplies, or visit all the tourist attractions & wineries in the area. The cooler months are the best time to camp.

My family loves camping along the Murray. Those old Redgums seem to talk to you as you walk through these old forests. You can camp for free in the state forests or stop at a caravan park along the water. Do it rough or do it comfy. It’s your choice.

My favourite childhood memories are of family and friends waterskiing every February in Mildura. Spending hours on end in the water, chasing the paddle steamers to catch a big wave, building BMX jumps on the side of the river and rope swings. Drinking Sarsaparilla which came with plastic figurines hanging off the side of the glass, and seeing the BIG Coca Cola chair for the first time every year. Wonderful memories.

The best canoe trip is from Bringenbrong to Jingellic. I call it the pub crawl visiting Tintaldra Hotel with it’s 1850’s touch, Walwa for a more Art Deco style, and ending up at the Bridge hotel with relaxing vistas to enjoy while lunch is being prepared for you. It has a million star rating as the night sky is stunning.
Waking up at 6am after a 30 minute Tai Chi exercise, the sun turns the grass to gold, as the mists gently rise from the waters of the Murray river.
Harry from Queensland took me last November when the temperatures were moderate making it a most comfortable and enjoyable camping holiday.

The section between Yarrawonga and Cobram has 103 sandy beaches. These beaches are unique to this part of the Murray River. Camping is free but it is a take in take all rubbish. The mediterain climate makes camping especially enjoyable. Drop toilets are available at some beaches. Thompsons beach Cobram is the largest inland beach on the Murray River. Events such as Peaches n Cream Festival, River Beaches Festival and numerious other concerts make this a special part of the river.

Whether camping for a few days or simply spending the day with friends. Spending time in the Barmah forest, especially near one of it’s beaches is the most relaxing time in your life. And the beauty of the nature that surrounds you is phenomenal.

The Upper Murray near Walwa is at its best during Autumn. Lots of sunshine, cool days, crisp nights, the magnificent Murray, as well as the colours of Autumn, make this a must see experience.

The Upper Murray (birthplace of the Murray River) up around Corryong is absolutely magnificent for camping enthusiasts. Relax, fishing, canoeing, 4WD access to some of the best tracks Victoria and New South Wales has to offer. We walked Burrowa Pine Mountain on our last visit. It is the largest monolith in the Southern hemisphere (1.5 times the size of Uluru apparantly). The views from the top down over the Murray valley were breathtaking. We also visited Murray One Power Station above Khancoban. The kids loved it.

Camping on a river beach is just the best experience. I have a favorite spot between Yarrawonga and Cobram but I’m going to have to keep the exact location a secret. You can have great fun with big groups of family or just find your own little bit of ground and get right away from the daily grind. A wonderful getaway at any time of year.
