You can cycle or walk through beautiful countryside and forest on a dedicated pedestrian path until your heart’s content.

I have lived near and walked every km og this glorious trial. I never get sick of it and it is the most peaceful and relaxing place! The dogs love it too!

We walked as a family from Bairnsdale to Orbost, camping along the way, staying at caravan parks or beside the trail depending on the distance to be travelled. it gave a different perspective of the engineering work that had gone into this railway. Much more interesting than just driving the distance by car.

So safe, so unique. An area of Victoria that is so close to perfect.

The sheer pleasure of riding a bike or walking without the sounds and associated danger of traffic. Being able to hear the birds, and view the sights and not have to check the road every few seconds. A truly relaxing experience.

Bicycle ride along the old rail bed from Bairnsdale to Orbost. Remote forests and fantastic old rail bridges.

Using the beautiful town of Lakes Entrance as a base, cycle the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail along Mississippi Creek to link into the East Gippsland Rail trail and beyond to Orbost. Enjoy well maintained tracks, passing huge historic Trestle Bridges through magnificent forests

Not just a trail for riders but for walkers too - I’ve even pushed the pram along it! Easy grades and a good surface in a spectacular bush setting.

Totally with the other comments and it will only improve with the extension to Marlo by accessing the coast.

A beautiful trail, well layed out and easy to follow. Thank goodness the rail lines were reused for this purpose! A fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors!

Easy riding through natural beauty not seen from the highway - rolling green hills, sparkling rainforest, tall eucalypts - with two large old trestle bridges and views of the mountains and the Gippsland lakes. The side ride to Lakes Entrance along the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail trail is an added delight.

This rail trail is full of surprises and pleasant experiences, I have had encounters with emus, wallabies, roos, eagles, goanas and countless other wildlife while on the trail and the magnificent east gippsland weather ensures you can enjoy it any time of the year. A must for the full 200k return ride between Bairnsdale and Orbost or the shorter rides taking in tourist venues, townships, wineries and villages along the trail. Being a rail it has no nasty hills or overly steep climbs, just gradual inclines and a great gravel surface. Highly recommended.

As an Orbost resident I have riden the 100 km to and from Bairnsdale in a day a number of times. A real safe and interesting ride.

The weather in East Gippsland makes walking or riding this trail a regular pleasure - especially from Bruthen.
