The walk with Bernie is amazing. I highly recommend this to anyone. You learn so much about Melbourne’s great art scene. This was my fourth trip to Melbourne and, although I have stumbled across beautiful street art before, Bernie showed us things I had never seen before and gave us a lot of history. The added bonus about this tour is that Bernie is a delight.
Walk to Art was an absolutely brilliant experience. We spent the afternoon with the lovely Bernie seeing all of Melbourne’s hidden treasures. It was informative and a lot of fun. I’ll certainly be recommending Walk to Art to all my friends… hidden
A very enjoyable afternoon and quite an eye-opener for a person who has worked in the city for over 30 years. So many places that I didn’t know existed.
However, I till can’t get my head around graffiti being portrayed as street art. To me, it’s just defaceing the walls of some lovely old buildings
Walk to art was such a brilliant experience, making sense of the galleries, exhibitions and street art in Melbourne, very much looking forward to the same experience in New York. Can thoroughly recommend it.
The tour opened my eyes to the art around us and made living in this city even more enjoyable. A thoroughly entertaining and insightful day with a lovely tour guide and an interesting view of Melbourne’s art scene. I recommend this to anyone.
It was fantastic to wonder through the city and find many hidden spots that that I didn’t know existesd ,as well as just enjoy the beauties of my own city. I felt really lucky to live in Melbourne, the art, the architecture, the cafe and bars! Bernie was so friendly and knowledgable, it was a really great afternoon and definately something I would recommend doing.
it was a great day
Definitely a tour suited for everyone, from a working artist to people who have an attraction to it but know nothing about it. Perfect for people who would rather a less intimidating approach to art with the incredible graffitied lane ways, with an amazing host with all the interesting and knowledgeable information regarding all aspects of art. An extremely comfortable, easy going, equal and open environment, with the types of creative works and variety you are personally taken to are nothing short of amazing. Definitely makes you feel as though you have been shown something secretive and special with all the hidden treasures you may never have known were there. Definitely recommended to anyone.
I am a self taught artist, a friend gave me walk for art gift voucher….
The best thing I could have done!!!
Walking around the city, talking with Bernie being completely and utterly inspired to explore, expand my knowledge, awareness and skills as an artist. Being introduced, seeing what other work is out there, studios the whole lot, was a fabulous day.
From that day on.. I now have an amazing studio space, I have started at the RMIT doing fine arts, which is going to help me immensely as an artist.
I would recommend Walk for Art to any one, Bernie is considerate to all types of people young old etc, if it gets to much walking, Bernie will get you on a tram. Truly fabulous, intelligent, creative woman who knows and respects the arts industry.. Melbourne is an incredible city!!
cheers
Georgie
An original and enjoyable afternoon with Bernie to provide great insights into another world of art beyond the mainstream. And to top it all off wine, cheese and lovely ambience at Bar Lourinha. WALK TO ART is must for a Melbourne out of towner.
went along to walk to art knowing nothing about art but thinking it would be good to do something different. absolutely loved it. started with a coffee and ended with wine and cheese so that in itself had me on side. the art spaces, studios and artists we visited were great and not intimidating at all. further, bernie’s vibrant personality allowed all on tour to feel relaxed and enthusiastic about art. now able to appreciate melbourne in a different light. would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to spend a very pleasant and very civilized afternoon in the city learning about melbourne’s hidden art spaces.
As an art professional colleague to Bernie Alibrando, I have been constantly impressed by the vitality, generosity and sheer delighted curiosity that she brings to her Walk-to-Art tours. Each of the artists or galleries Bernie visits also benefit greatly by experiencing the immediate enthusiasm of the Walks’ participants. Bernie is sensible enough to understand that participants like to enjoy good food and wine to relax with after the event, which further expands the experience for all involved. The discussions and possibilities that resonate AFTER the tour are as important as the insights and pleasure gained whilst on the walk itself. Highly recommended, great value for money, and a fine hands-on ambassador for the Melbourne art world.
A amazing gift for a birthday present . Get some friends together and have a great day with Bernie. So much information and Bernies vibrant personality make the day so much fun.General information for example what restaurant to go to where the good bars are in Melbourne. Not only wonderful art information great personalities o n the way around . Many laughs. We will go again one day
The tour was wonderful, I never knew there were so many hidden art treasures in my home town! I would highly recommend walk to art to visitors and locals looking for a fun and informative day out.
Myself and 3 girlfriends came down from Sydney for a weekend. The highlight was the walking art tour with Bernie. She was so full of local knowlegde about the melbourne art scene and we went to some great studios and exhibitions that were unique to her tour. Just loved it and highly reccommend it.
I took my Mum, she loves to keep up with the fashion and trends. She was amazed to learn about art that lives and breathes in public places for everyone to enjoy. She took away a whole new appreciation for street art and felt very cool learning about it in the process. Cant recommend the tour enough for all ages.
Bernie was a fantastic guide and gave me an insight into the art scene in Melbourne not available elsewhere. Best of all she works to demystify art and make it accessible instead of attempting to make it an even more elite sphere. It gives you the tools you need to start an art collection and the confidence to walk into any gallery with ease. A wonderful attraction - totally unique and very Melbourne chic.
Bernies bright personality and charm made my Melbourne walk exciting. As a Melbourne” born and bred “I had no idea such activity was taking place behind closed doors! Imagine how exciting overseas visitors would find this adventure.
Bernie’s tour gave my husband and me a glimpse of the “arty” life; worlds away from our own mundane domesticity. The insight into the creative world has inspired me to take up my own adventures in art (my girlfriends and I staged our own photography exibit) much to the mirth of our family and friends. I also took the food and restaurant advice literally and visited several of the restaurants Bernie suggested, beginning the night of the tour with some interesting people we met on the tour. We have visited Melbourne twice more since and I have given my daughter an ärt walk” as well so that she could experience the vibrancy of the Melbourne art and food scene….fabulous!
Although I work in the city everyday Walk to Art opened my eyes to things I had not seen or noticed before. It was a very pleasurable and insightful afternoon and Bernie’s enthusiasm is certainly contagious. I now look at the city in a different light with more appreciation of what it has to offer whether it be the street art, the small hidden studios or whatever else may be around a corner or down a lane way.
The excursion for 28 year 11 and 12 students and three international visitors was the most beneficial excursion that I have taken students on. The tour guide was exemplary and our guides breadth of knowledge on the subject of Graffiti was commendable. My students were enthralled at the amount of street art available for viewing in the inner city and surrounds. Their quiestions were responded to in depth and the students hung on every word. Some students have been back to the city and reviewed the street art in their own time, as I have as well. Excursions for country students is not easy to organise. Nevertheless, the knowledge and inspiration gained from such an excursion greatly inspired the students in their own creative work. An enthusiastic group of students and an energyetic guide made it all worth while. Thank you again to Bernie, our guide.
Bernadette’s ‘Walk to Art’ tours are most informative and pleasurable. She is to be commended for providing such interesting experiences to people from all walks of life. I enjoyed seeing the street art which I had always considered to be graffiti before Bernie explained it all to us.
Well done, Bernie!
A group of Melbourne (mature)friends have been on two different WALKS TO ART with Bernie
The first time we visited artists studios and work spaces, and recently we walked the laneways of Melbourne being enlightened about the graffiti art. We now have an appreciation of the artistic talent in what we previously thought was defacement of property
Each time we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Bernie is a fund of information, a delightful person with an engaging personality.
coming off 15 years in nyc straight to melbourne was buffered nicely with the hip experience that is walk to art.
this art and culture tour was led with innate and natural style by bernie alibrando. walk to art opened up not only the doors behind what you always wondered about in emerging art, but the beliefs and philosophies that fuel them. meeting artists, coupled with the allowance to interact at your own pace with their work in a relaxed forum is rare and unique. the impressive lexicon of skill and insights offered by bernie was a constant without the slightest err of pretentiousness. the conclusion of the tour was definately dope; wine and cheese in the most perfect of settings. this brooklyn dweller cant wait for her next trip to melbourne.
We can endorse all the previous comments about Bernie and her tour. So much so that we are going to her walk-to-art tour in New York in September.
WALK TO ART takes you to many hidden treasures in Melbourne. I am a practicing artist in Melbourne yet Bernie delighted me with visits to studios and galleries in the city I had no idea existed. The street art factor is a real winner. Melbourne will never be the same again after discovering these hidden gems.
walk to art is a great way to connect or ‘re-connect’ with the Melbourne art scene.
Whether your a local or visitor to Melbourne, Bernie leads an informative and inspiring tour, uncovering hidden gems and sharing her experience - all with a smile. You’ll make new friends, learn more about what makes Melbourne the great city it is, and finish the day over conversation with fab cheese and wine. Brilliant!
Walk-to-art was a fabulous way to open my eyes to melbourne’s hidden artistic treasures and to expand my artistic horizons. Bernie was thoroughly well researched, organised and generous with her arty knowledge. A very worthwhile experience.
We followed Bernie’s instructions to meet-up at the obscure hole-in-the-wall serving fabulous coffee in a previously unnoticed lane, RIGHT IN THE CITY CENTRE …..how had I never before noticed it?!
This set the tone for the whole wonderful Walk to Art tour, as we were introduced to hidden contemporary art down the back lanes and busy thoroughfares of Melbourne, always assisted by Bernie’s informed and enthusiastic commentary.
The only local on my Tour, I was shown parts of Melbourne I didn’t know existed!
Bravo Bernie ! I can’t wait to go again.
The walk to art tour that I did in February was fantastic and was definately the highlight of my trip. I was’nt familiar with the art scene in Melbourne and Bernadettes tour was great introduction. It was’nt a regular tour of the commercial art galleries but more behind the scenes look at street art as well as visiting studios and talking with artists. She was a very professional guide who was passionate about her job and the art scene. I would definately recommend her walk for anyone that has an interest or curiosity about the art scene in Melbourne. I wish her good luck on her art-to walk ventures in New York.
I was given a Walk to Art voucher for my birthday, it gave me a perspective of the City I have never thought about before and opened my eyes to the many wonderful ways art can be presented. The day was fantastic from start to finish which included a relaxing drink and nibbles at the end of the day. It was so well organised that I plan to go again even though won’t be my birthday.
walk-to-art provides the rare opportunity to meet artist, see them at work in their studios and talk to them about their art and life experiences. This is the type of authentic experience I enjoy when traveling and is one that only a local can give.
My partner and I had a very relaxing and insightful afternoon on the walk to art tour. Not only did we learn about art and upcoming artists but also discovered hidden treasures in the Melbourne CBD and enjoyed very good wine and food. An afternoon very well spent!
As art lovers we saw a raw/real side to working artists in Melbourne… it was a great experience! We thought we knew Melbourne!
Bernie showed us art in spaces you would never expect to find it!
The tour was insightful and and a fun day out. We have recommend it to many of our friends.
I went on the Walk To Art tour last year and absolutely loved it. I even went to a gallery and bought one of the pieces I’d seen during the tour.
Walk to Art was a thoroughly interesting and informative way to discover Melbourne’s secret laneways and interesting street art. We also spoke to several artists with an interesting range of work. Jumped on a tram in Collins Street alighted in Gertrude Street to talk to more artists. Finshed the walk in a cafe in Lt Collins Street feasting on wine and cheese. A wonderful way to conclude the walk.
Our guide ,Bernie Alibrando is an art consultant and certainly gave me lots of information that I was delighted to hear. I work at the National Gallery of Victoria and Bernie showed me artwork in Melbourne that was unique and interesting. Great Value……
Walk-to-art was a great taste of Melbourne and the day was such a lovely rounded experience. We started off with good coffee which always makes me happy then began the tour though Melbourne’s lane ways and streets. Bernie had obviously done all the leg work to take us straight to some of the interesting cultural things the city had to offer. Sculpture set back into lane ways, abandoned mail boxes in the foyer of a building which had been revived as mini exhibition spaces and an invitation into artist’s studios to talk with them about their work. You don’t have this type of experience in a place unless you know someone who can open up all the right doors! We finished off by having a chat in a tapas bar and sharing a true taste of Melbourne’s food culture.
I cannot recommend Walk to Art more highly! As a visitor to Melbourne I found the 3 hour walk incredilby informative and lots of fun. We kicked off with a coffee in one of the laneways and the tour culminated with wine in cheese in a great little bar in the city. Bernie knows her ‘art stuff’ and is very personable. It was a great way to spend an afternoon, whether you are an out of towner or a local!
What an experience! It gave me an insight into the laneway art and i was able to provide my students when we visited Melbourne from Ouyen an insight into art that they are not able to experience first hand.
What an amazing afternoon! Bernie ensured that my Year Twelve students from Adelaide enjoyed an experience that they will never forget. We met artists, discovered amazing artspaces and artworks and had our minds expanded in ways that we had never imagined. We now all look upon a trip to Melbourne with new eyes and excitement - not just as a shopping trip.
The WALK TO ART tour was informative as well as beautiful and we met some wonderful Australians who we have joined us again as we explore more of this wonderful city, no wonder Melbourne is rated so high as holiday destination in Holland.
This day was both imformative and enjoyable, Bernie is full of knowledge and character, I loved it and will go again and send those I love to it. I discovered more about our city of melbourne on this tour than ever before which was a sweet suprise.
