As a volunteer renovating some of the displays,I never cease to be amazed by the fluid nature of everything we haveon show; that seem to change the character of the museum so that every time (3 days a week) I come in to do a job, there is a different, and better, feel to the displays of this country’s military heritage.
Please come visit, I’m sure you will leave feeling a greater connection to the history of this great country.

We took our children from the local school to the museum and Graham showed the children through and was brilliant with the children. They loved the museum and talked about it for some time after. It is very child friendly and the quality of the museum and the way in which it is presented is outstanding.

This museum will certainly suprise you and not only from the size of the museum, but with the diversity of the displays from a small para troopers motor bike to a heavy 60 ton tank transporter. The vehicle collection alone has 170 items including armoured vehicles. Staff cars including a 1948 Army Holden Utility and a 1978 Army Ford LTD are on display. The artillery display includes captured field guns, anti-aircraft guns, anti-tanks guns, search lights and field artillery. There are some 100 uniformed manniquins on display.

In the Memorial Gardens opposite the museum there are 3 x free electric BBQ’s.

    Total wheel chair access.

This museum has everything - I reckon more than Canberra. There is a lot more detail and more subjects on display. I’ve left various items for display after my time on a Peacekeeping Mission in Namibia in 1989. My daughter who is a year 6 teacher at Jindera ensures her class visits at least once a year - as it is very educational. I’d certainly recommend all to visit this well maintained museum and even if you visited two years ago, it changes all the time - go again!

This is a 1st class Army Museum. I have travelled extensively throughout Australia and this Army Museum (other than the Australian War Memorial) is the best I have seen. It has a huge range of past and present Military hardware, vehicles, machinery and memorabilia and provides an enormous amount of Military history to educate oneself. I recommend this Museum to anyone who has; or should have, an interest in our proud Military heritage. I especially encourage schools to put this on their excursion list for their students as this Museum has significant educational value for our youth. Well done to all the staff that present and maintain this fantastic Museum for the benefit of the public - thank you.

The Army Museum is one of the best museums in Australia displaying Military memorabilia. It makes it even more special by being run by a dedicated group of volunteers. The museum is a must see if you are travelling throught the area.

In the late 70’s it was a big shed full of dusty old junk. Now it is brilliantly set out with vibrant displays. I take my two older boys out every now and again to see what has changed, it is a history lesson with every visit. I take all ex Defence members who visit for a beer out for a look, they are always impressed regardless of their Corps. The shop is very well stocked and out of towners usually leave with their arms full (especially the ANZAC biscuits).

I have taken a number of excursions with aged persons to this museum and all have found it to be one of the best visits they have undertaken. With free barbeque facilities enabling all to enjoy a lunch prior to their visit, a low cost entrance fee and a comprehensive exhibition of miltary history, it makes for an enjoyable and informative few hours. A credit to the curator and volunteers.

A lot of people think military museums are only interesting to ex-military people or kids, but that is most definately not the case with this museum. There is something for everyone and it is a great place to learn some important Australian history like the legend of the ANZACs. This museum offers an valuable insite in to the life of our service personel through history. To the staff and volunteers, I say thank you for providing such a world class facility for us all to visit, it is a credit to you all.

As an Ex Military member I have watched the Army museum Bandiana grow from a small collection in the early 1980’s when I first joined to one that is now worthy of significant recognition. The staff and volunteers have spent many hours of care to authenticate all displays and the location within the barracks is peaceful and well supported for large groups. The volunteers who provide tours are well informed and very welcoming to all age groups. Bandiana located of the Murray Valley highway is ideally located to visitors with rail, air and major road support to access the museum all year round.

When I last visited, the display then was proffesionally presented to show a then and now perspective of how our soldiers endured the days in the Defence forces. The display also appluads the inovativeness of our soldiers to survive in a hostile situation. Most importantly it is a living display for all future generations to enjoy and reflect over.

This military museum is the best in the country. The displays are all easy to see and the mannequins are so lifelike. The uniform collection tells a story of the changing times. The collection of military vehicles is so diverse with a WW1 Truck,to a Centurion Tank and amphibious vehicles used from the islands to Antartica.
A credit to all the staff and volunteers.

Four visits to the Army Museum Bandiana, with collaegue curators during 2008 has reinforced the knowledge that the ARMY Museum Bandiana presents a military history perspective that the Nation Memorial is unable to accomplish. The Museum remains to be the Border District’s best kept secret. The steadily growing Army Apprentices School history will promote national interest.

I really liked the guns and the cool vehicles! The drip riffle was the best display along with the jeep that the royals sat in. I also liked the Helicopter and the sailing boat! My brother liked getting his picture taken on the jeep and with the gun dressed up with the hard hat and water bottle carrier! We had a fun day!

This is not a museum to be visited only once, as it’s displays are constantly changing. Renovated permanent exhibits, totally new displays, and additional items are being added all the time. Even if you visited 3 months ago you could return now and find something new that alone would be worth the adult entry fee of $5.

Imagine a footy field - and then some - under one roof, packed full of fascinating artifacts. And don’t forget the outdoor exhibits of artillery, vehicles, tanks, and other large objects. In a nutshell it’s vast, varied, value for money, and very interesting for the whole family.

In terms of a hidden jewel this would have to be one of the best and most interesting visitor experiences in Australia, let alone Victoria. It has an unparalled collection of softskin and armoured military vehicles which are well displayed in a large building, as well as an interesting collection of other weapons and items.
It’s a must-see for anyone traveling to Northern Victoria and indeed is a good reason to visit that part of the country.
