   This Hume Highway stopover has everything! The charming and hospitable hosts, Jane and John Starey, allow you to stretch your legs in the challenging maze, play mini golf, give the kids a run, learn about the history of the infamous Ned Kelly in the Avenel area where he grew up and enjoy refreshments while overlooking the beautiful Strathbogie Ranges. Don’t miss it!

   Fantastic fun day for our whole family. We loved the rock art, the maze, the Ned Kelly story and the free mini golf. And being out of the city and in the lovely Strathbobie Ranges was a real bonus too!
   We will return soon with more friends next time.

   Great day in the country! Something for everyone. I would recommend teachers take advantage of this wonderful local resource for Australian history!! Very accessible …only a little over an hour’s drive from the city.

   What a great place—one feels as though one is on top of the world with the most picturesque views as far as the eye can see . As well as that there are activities for every age . A must do.

   We had a great day at this maze and enjoyed all the facilities, the open country air, the Kelly gang story, yes would have to recommend this amazing maze.

    A wonderful golfing experience at the Avenel Maze which is set in the Kelley Gang region. The kids enjoy the whole lot and love it. We for sure will return for another great day. Thank you!

    A wonderful day out for the whole family with great views across the Strathbogie Ranges. Lots of activities for everyone to enjoy and a great undercover area to relax and enjoy a bbq for lunch. This in a unique maze offering everyone a little piece of history with its Ned Kelly theme as you follow your way through the maze to complete the quiz. Well worth the visit.

    Delightful hosts , who will make you feel very welcome
    answering questions and making your day really enjoyable. The maze is stunning and with all the other facilities mini golf etc, it’s worth going to the maze to get way from the hum drum of life and have a wonderfull day of relaxation, stimulation and refreshingly fun for all the family

    Whenever the family come to visit, they want to go to the maze. And now that the mini golf is up and running, it is even better. Us oldies appreciate the undercover seating and great amentities. All surrounded by relaxing views of the Strathbogie Ranges. Gets my vote!

    I loved the maze so much I have returned many times. Jane was so lovely to me and I have been back to see the maze and chat with her over a lucious coffee. The countryside is breath- takingly beautiful. It wipes awy the city in seconds. Importantly, it refreshes your soul and gives you a great start to the next stage of your life. I love the maze, lovely Ned , the country and Jane ……..so much I keep going back.

    A beautiful maze and other activites located just under 1.5 hours from Melbourne

    Well worth the trip too see where Ned Kelly spent his childhood

    A unique family day out. the avenel Maze is set in the breathtakingly beautiful countryside only 115 Klms from the CBD of Melbourne. There is something for all ages at the maze, fun life size puzzles, a labyrith, mini golf and so much more. The children can run about and the older family members can relax without any worries, take in the views, while sitting back and enjoying a drink or do what we did and take a BBQ lunch. The facilities are first class. The staff are so friendly and are happy to talk to you about the Ned Kelly story, which is so interesting as he spent some of his early life just near the Maze. A truly memorable day out and a place that we will visit again.

    Jane and John made us wonderfully welcome and we had a wonderful day playing in the mazes. The Ned Kelly theme is a real winner and the kids had a ball.

    A different experience for people visiting from abroad. To have such a family activity available, along with lunch and a bit of golf, gave all the family a chance to enjoy their visit.

    Just 1.5 hours from Melbourne- less than a tank of petrol, or $18 return rail travel from Melbourne to Avenel, a great informative and great fun destination

    The Avenel Maze is a wonderful day trip destination from Melbourne. It has a very mature hedge Maze,mini golf, koisk and other family entertainment activities . Particularly it is set on elevated granit hill country with wonderful views over ground used many times by the infamous Kelly Gang. Since Ned Kelly did his schooling in Avenel much of the Kelly Gang history is also featured at the Avenal Maze

    What a great place. The kids loved the activities and the people were just so nice. Will definitely be heading back up that way next time down the highway. A perfect break in any trip up or down the highway.

    this is a facinating touristy family Maze with lots of things to do for the kids and adults alike and with a special Ned Kelly gang theme which makes the day quite unique.

    Terrific afternoon. Great setup with excellent facilities. Made good use of the BBQ and picnic area. The kids slept the whole way to Wodonga after running the two mazes and labyrinth!!

    Absolutely magnifcent. The” Royal Avenel” mini-golf course and the maze itself make for a great day of fun.

    The Avenel Maze is a great one day destination from Melbourne with many attractions Kiosk etc,for the whole family. Set on elevated granit hill country where the Kelly Gang used to ride(Ned Kelly did his schooling at Avenel) the maze features much of the Kelly Gang History also. A great Day out.

    The Avenel Maze is designed as a Ned Kelly Themed maze, with a quizz sheet so that you can find icons and information boards etc about Ned Kelly and the story of his life. As well there are other smaller and different mazetype activities and also a nine hole mini golf, which is included in the entry price. so you can spend the whole day really. There are free BBQ facilites and the amenities are really good.

    Took my students there for an excursion. They had a great time and learnt a lot about the Kelly Gang - very educational and caters well to large groups.

    A real hidden gem! The kids had a ball so finally we really relaxed, gazing over the strathbogies (even with a cheeky glass of wine). Making use of the bbqs is a must.

    What a great stop just of the Hume Highway! The hedge maze was fantastic. A wonderful place for lunch in the heart of Kelly country. Cobber, the Golden Labrador will bid you a warm welcome!! Make time for a round of golf on the challenging 9 hole course. A great Aussie place to take the family!
