A great trip involving daily packed lunches and perfect weather conditions. Every need was catered for. Floating down the tranquil river with wildlife right beside us including fish, foxes, kangaroos, wallabies, platypus, Echidnas, endangered birds and wombats. Back home for a relaxing afternoon of fishing and swimming then at night it was card games and a good old chat around the barbie.

Fitted in the 3 day trip with in a busy life style! It was fantastic (Although the fish didn’t bight!) The two days meandering down the river was with platypus, Birds, Kangaroos, and Cattle amoungst the Red Gums - Just stunning. Rob & Joan’s service and organisation could not be faulted.

3 Days 3 Canoes 6 friends with the beautiful Winters day canoeing down the Goulburn River…. What and Andventure Rob’s knowledge of the area makes the whole river experience that much more interesting, not to mention his wonderful ability to treat his clients like friends. I have recommended it to all my friends and look forward to the next one. A++++++++++++

Absolutely fabulous experience. Arrive to find everything in the camp set up so just a matter of taking food and drink. Rob’s enthusiasm for the beautiful Goulburn River and the surrounding country is contagious and informative. Our group have enjoyed the leisurely river meanderings over a number of years and have precious memories of these and fun campfire dinners. Fantastic sanity saver.

What other operator would meet his clients at the end of a three day summer trip with an Esky full of beer.

My wife and I kayak Sydney water ways with a group of baby boomers every Sunday morning 0730-1030. We decided to be a little more adventurous and started a web search. We found a most helpful gentleman who manages a canoe safari business. Not only does he manage & organise he gave helpful information, supplied equipment & tents gave us maps and extra water. We set off from Sydney with our own sea kayaks met Rob at a pre arranged stop. He escorted us to our bush campsite beside the Goulburn river (Vic) Set us up for our departure, took our car. We had a fantastic experience not only with the Goulburn river but the wildlife was exciting. We reached the junction of the Murray and paddled toward Echuca and met Rob with our car under the Moama bridge.
    We are definetly going back.

Rob’s love of the outdoors and the River itself was great preparation for our winter trip on the Goulburn River. 3.5 hours of enjoyable paddling with my family for my birthday was a lovely present. We’ll be back for sure!

Rob spent a lot of time getting our U3A group of over 60 year olds organised and familiar with the canoes. At the finish he was waiting in the 34 C heat with an Esky full of cold beer for us . Never had such great service.

PS: I am also a dizzy wife…I meant the “Goulburn River” above, not the Murray!!! Hey, I’m from the city…..:-)

I am a 42 year old city mum and I organised a day canoing with my computer addict, PSP playing 4 kids, then aged 5, 7, 9 and 14 and my not so outdoorish husband. I personally suffer a lot of health problems, including IBS and back problems, but I just love the idea of canoing down an Australian river for a day…so I found Rob’s advertisement and called him up and made a booking in the middle of winter, in July 2006. I figured that my health will just get worse in the years ahead so if i didn’t do that then, I probably would not have the guts to do it later. I must tell you, we had such a FANTASTIC time….with 2 canoes and one river kayak. My oldest son took the 9 year old, my husband doubled with the youngest and my daughter and I played pocahontas in the kayak for 4 hours down the river. It has been one of the best memories our family has had. Rob’s wife packed a yummy lunch for us all and absolutely nothing beats the atmosphere of a sunny winters day in a canoe in the most peaceful place on Earth, The Murray River. Next time we plan on doing the 3 day safari and camping…I’m working on my health first…but we will do it! PS: my health held up excellently…I guess I just forgot to feel sorry for myself as I enjoyed such a wonderful adventure!

A true Australian outdoors experience, hosted by a true Australian- Rob.

A definite highlight of my Victoria tour, a paddle down the mighty Goulbourn River with an extremely knowledgeable guide, an abundance of native bird and animal life that would have gone without notice had it not been for the eager eyes of our guide.

Slightly hesitant to begin with as a family of non-swimmers, however supervision and safety measures were at a very high level which made for a comfortable, entertaining and extremely enjoyable journey.

I highly recommend this tour, our family will be sure to return in the near future!

Don’t know why people go to to such trouble to travel outside the state when we have the brilliance of canoeing the northern rivers of Victoria. Travelling for a weekend break can be a trial, but the easy access to Rob’s suggested destinations - together with his “nothing -is-too-much-trouble’ guidance made the planning, enjoyment and ultimate relfection (on our part) of what a darned good job we had done in completing the journey, went well beyond our expectations.
Let all of your senses come alive.Try it - it won’t take long to convince you, you will do it again.

I found Rob was amazing with his canoe trips, he knows the water ways so well, and all the fauna knowledge was great. Rob actual taught me quite a bit about our wild life. The tour he took our group on was around the Nagambie area……….honestly we have some great landscape in this area, and it was great to be shown this hidden secret.

Along with 21 friends we went on a 6 day canoe trip down the Goulburn River last New Years Eve. Rob Asplin from River Country Adventours was extremely helpful in organising such a large expedition. Everyone had an absolutely fantastic time and was very appreciative of effort that he put into organising everything for us - I think the cold beers that we had brought to us on NYE were the best beers that I’ve ever drunk. More importantly though the river was surprisingly stunning and is definitely a part of Victoria worth checking out if you haven’t already done so, and going back to if you already have. I would strongly recommend the experience to anyone, and especially during the summer months when it’s obviously a bit warmer.

    Jul 17th, 2008 at 12:06 am

Rob and the crew were just fantastic and so was the river! We had a NYE adventure with nearly 20 people and River Country Adventours handled the logistics really well. For a unique and totally memorable river experience drenched in classic Australiana you couldnt go past this. I am dying for my overseas rellies to get their arses over here so I can take them river adventuring.

The route was scenic, easy to navigate and rest spots chosen were great. Plus Rob and co were very attentive to our needs, ensuring that we had enough fresh water (and other refreshments), that we always had a toilet with us and trying to satisfy whatever whims we had.

I have now been on several ‘river’ trips with Rob and have loved each one. I have seen amazing river scenery - you get a different perspective from being on the water - and the kids have loved it. Rob is so accomodating and meets the family’s needs in all camping areas. He goes the extra mile to ensure you have a relaxing and fun time. This is a great outdoor experience for anyone of almost any age!!
Thank you River Country Adventours for some awesome trips.

We have done several of these weekends with Rob on the Goulburn. Rob looks after us so well, making sure we have everything we need right down to the firewood for the campfire. Joan makes sure we all eat well, and caters for special dietary needs.
The Goulburn river is magnificent. It such a peaceful environment.
Rob always gives us the low down on what to look out for on the river each day.

    FANTASTIC!!

the river was magic. it was just us and the gum trees and the birds. we heard the birds and we heard our friends who were not very good with paddling, trying to avoid the tree trunks in the water. our host was awesome, he was friendly and he shared the local history with us. he made the trip possible, helping us getting the canoes and getting me down the steep bank.

I’ve enjoyed the romance of the river with my partner, the comradery of canoeing with a group of friends, and the magic of Goulburn as I showed it off to my sister and partner who were visiting from New Zealand. This has got to be one of the best things to do in Victoria!

I”m not really a camper, but even so I really enjoyed just camping out with a small group of friends. The trip was to raise funds for crones disease.

It’s a great weekend - you arrive at the campsite and everything is set up for you, even the wood is chopped and the air mattresses are blown up. The serenity is wonderful as we sit around the fire at night. The canoeing, or moseying down the river as we call it is not strenuous by any means and because of the nature of the river, rarely do you see anybody for the entire weekend, other than Rob who comes out with ice for the tinnies, the Sunday paper and anything else you need.

Rob Asplin is a man with a passion for whatever he is involved in. He has a wealth of knowledge and an abundance of stories re folklore, history and personal experience. He is totally organised and I would recommend any activity which he has arranged as you can bet on the fact that it will be an unforgettable experience.

Rob Asplin is the host with the most. He reorganised our trip on the beautiful Goulburn because of very stormy weather even though he had made our lunch already. Very friendly, obliging and professional tour company!

I volunteer at a Visitor Information Centre & customers are looking for more unusual, adventurous & interesting things to do in their leisure time. Canoeing on the Goulburn with River Country Adventours ticks all these boxes. Keep up the good work Rob & Joan.

I had my first time canoeing experience with River Country Adventours. Rob and Joan were very helpful and encouraging. The course was beautiful, calm and very much close to nature. Camping on the banks of the river was an unforgettable experience. We took an excess of 4 hrs to complete the course, but Rob and Joan were very patient waiting for us. I’m looking forward to my next canoeing adventure with River Country Adventours. This is one of those get away I’d definitely recommend to everyone.

My club has had several 3-day canoe trips on the Goulburn with Adventours, always great fun and well organised. On one trip, we had a heatwave, over 40 degrees every day. On the 2nd day Rob, who was obviously worried about us in the heat, and worried we might run short of fresh water, arrived at our campground with a huge esky of bottled water and ice to cool us down. The best part was he also brought us some beer, which went down a treat. Thanks for that Rob. Agree with other comments, peace and quiet on the water, and camping out under the stars, is just a fabulous experience.

The Goulburn River at Nagambie is the most beautiful and peaceful place I know. The abundance of native fish and animals that live around the wetlands are astounding. The sun shinning through the trees, the sounds of the birds, the smell of the gums and the beauty of the water lilies. It restores and revives the senses. Thanks Rob for bringing this wonderful experience to us.

Rob took us at our word when we told him that we knew all about canoeing and let us to do our own thing for 2 glorious days on the beautiful Goulburn river. The only place I know where pelicans escort you past their nest. We loved the adventure so much that not only have we referred Rob and Joan to our friends but we have also been back several times to repeat the experience. Rob’s knowledge of the area and his willingness to share antidotes makes the whole river experience that much more interesting, not to mention his wonderful ability to treat his clients like friends. We will be back Rob. You can count on it.

What a way to spend a day or a few days - drifting along such a beautiful river with the branches of ancient river red gums silhouetted against the blue sky.

You’ll see two-hundred year-old Yorta Yorta canoe scars in trees, tortises, cod, incredible bird life and don’t have to paddle much if you just want to kick back and take it all in.

Rob and Joan provide the ultimate service at a great price - drop off and pick up, gear - even a cold beer waiting at the end of the trip!

l recommend River Country Adventours without hesitation - everyone should give this a go.

The enjoyment made available as you quietly paddle the ever changing water is undescribable. Without the service from River country Adventours it would be much harder to get around to doing this.

had a really great time out on the canoes. Goulburn River at Nagambie is very scenic and easy to travel on by canoe. Rob was very patient explaining the basics on canoeing to us, which we appreciated. i did end up very wet, but i think that had more to do with my paddling companion than the canoeing itself. i would recommend everyone to give it a go, we had great fun!

Rob and Joan Asplin provide an adventurous but very safe canoeing experience on the lovely Goulburn River. They offer all the support that any canoeist could ever need, from a total beginner to a more experienced group, but their knack is to do so very unobtrusively. Rob makes sure you’re safe, yet he also makes sure you never feel over-supervised.

My first adventure under Rob and Joan’s supervision led me to take up canoeing as a sport. I have since canoed many of Victoria’s most beautiful rivers, often camping out and getting in touch with rural Victoria - but also exploring our urban waterways and seeing even Melbourne from a perspective that very few have experienced.

I could never have been able to do this without such a wonderful introduction to the sport by River Country Adventours. I recommend them without hesitation.

My wife and I spent a beautiful summer’s day canoeing down the Goulburn towards the Murray. Driven to a launch point deep in the bush, we paddled and were met by dozens of white cockatoos around every turn. Peace and serenity on the water without sighting another human being for the whole day - magic!
