Enjoy a wilderness tour on the ‘Porky Bess.’  Cruising around Mallacoota Inlet and into Croajingalong National Park, a World Biosphere Reserve, the scenery changes from pure white sandy beaches, rocky coastal headlands and granite peaks to rambling heathland, lush rainforests and towering eucalypts.

A beautiful National Park in remote south eastern Australia. Surrounding the small town of Mallacoota in Victoria, with wonderful bird life, flora and fauna, and walking tracks, it is an inspiring area to visit.

This is a spectacularly beautiful place. Mallacoota Inlet has wonderful scenery with jewel blue water, sandy beaches, and the quiet Genoa river. It’s fringed by remote mountains full of a huge range of wildflowers. There are plenty of walks through the bush. It’s large enough to have plenty of places to stay from camping to caravan parks or units and private houses. Good food and basic services - restaurants, grocers, pub, newsagent, bakery and fuel. Further into Croajingalong National Park, the campsites and beaches are more isolated but still beautiful. This is probably my favourite place in Victoria.

My husband & I had a lovely trip with Simon on the Porgy Bess recently at
    Mallacoota.
He is a wonderful host & showed us lots of bird & animal
life we would have missed on our own. His local knowledge was amazing.
Would recommend this trip to others. A great find while
    visiting Croajingalong National Park.

Croajingalong NP is one of the most truly unspoiled parts of Victoria, in part due to its isolation and distance from major urban centres (and is thus often overlooked as a destination). Visiting the park is well worth the effort - walking on beaches where yours are (some of) the first footsteps in the sand or where you can readily access sublime lake destinations. Travelling by boat, such as those journeys provided by the Porgie Bess, provides a unique and personalised way of seeing this special part of our state.

Visiting Mallacoota is a must for Australians’ and visitors’ alike. A must for people who need some space and tranquility in their life. The Porky Bess can be that, a great fishing adventure, a once in a lifetime perfect picnic, or just something really fun to do,regarless of the weather.

A day out on the Porkie Bess with Simon at the helm is a must do when visiting Mallacoota!! What a great way to experience the Croajingalong National Park. Victoria’s best kept secret.

Simon’s personalised tours in the unique craft, the Porky Bess, are a great introduction to Croajingalong National Park. He will find you koalas, sea eagles at the nest, or off-the-beaten-track picnic spots that can only be accessed by boat. The tour will leave you planning what to do when next you visit the Park, that is if you can bring yourself to leave in the first place.

The Inlet and Croajingalong National Park remain places of unspoilt natural beauty and peace. Cruising in the Porky Bess, be it dawn or dusk or the middle of the day is the best way to experience it. An intimate boat with old world charm and simplicity (as is its skipper!), there is always time to stop for a photo, a walk, picnic or even just a cup of tea.

The Porkie Bess charter cruise is a great way to spend your time in Croajingalong National Park. Simon Buckley takes you on a memorable tour of the Mallacoota Lake system encompassing all of the beauty of this very special part of Australia. Simon will show you the sea eagles, koalas and various birds and fish in their own natural habitat, all with relevant information pertaining to species in his own entertaining style. This is an experience not to be missed. Mallacoota, Victoria,s best kept secret.

A 5 day hike through Croajingalong NP was my first introduction to the area and made me fall in love with this beauitful area of Victoria. No where in Victoria that I have visited has come close to the peacefulness and natural wonder. An amazing place.

    Gabo Island -
Explore the pristine environment, meet the native animals including a large number of penguins, climb the lighthouse, talk to a parks ranger, stay in a LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS COTTAGE - think about life in the 19 & 20 th century. Be amazed by the views and the silence - breath and feel calm and rested and revitalized!

    Point Hicks Lighthouse
Perched on a bare granite headland, surrounded by Croajingolong National and World Biosphere park stands the 1890 Point Hicks Lighthouse with its historic Oregon timber cottages nestled below. The place in Australia first sighted by Captain Cook and his crew on the ‘Endeavour’, named after his first Lieutenant Zachary Hicks.

    Little has changed………………….
Climb mainland Australia’s tallest lighthouse, take a walk along a secluded beach or challenge yourself to the towering dunes, explore the wreck of the S.S.Saros or snorkel around the historic West Point.

Try your hand at landing the elusive Freshwater Bass. Catch site of a Humpback Whale as it hurls its bulky body out of the water whilst its young calf waves its pectoral fin, spot over one third of Australia’s bird species.

Canoe the pristine Mueller Inlet or the enchanting Thurra Swamps or simply relax and dine on the wide verandahs watching seals, waves, schooling salmon and a spectacular summer sunset.

Rug up and endure the wild winter weather only to retire beside a cosy wood fire.

Beautiful scenery abounds at Mallacoota where you can camp on the side of the lake and explore the inlet in a boat or drive through the park to a variety of beaches and inlets where birds, goannas and wombats can be seen on a regular basis and you can take home wonderful photographs and memories.

The Point Hicks/ Thurra River section of Croajingalong is entered from a wild flower strewn road out of Cann River. Fabulous family camping away from the crowds. Very good sheltered and private sites. A variety of beaches and coves all close together. Interesting walks to the lighthouse ( where you can stay if you book in early enough) to do a tour or watch for sea mammals from the rocky headland. Huge sand dunes which slide down to the shallow river ( and so can the Kids!). No wonder this park is so highly regarded at an International level!
