Wake up to the sound of softly lapping water on a self guided cruise. Stretching out over 400 square km, Gippsland Lakes is the southern hemisphere’s largest and most beautiful network of inland waterways.  It is easy to hire all kinds of boats in the tranquil waterfront villages of Metung and Paynesville, to experience life on the lake.

Gippsland Lakes have been our holiday destination now for over 15 years.

We have a “Trailer Sailer” of 8 metres length and the length of safe sailing in the “Lakes” is second to none in Australia.

Absolutely breathtaking place. Great sunset at Barrier Landing. One of the most relaxing breaks we have been on (thank you Riviera Nautic Boat Hire). Beautiful and just so picturesque.

    The blue pools in Gippsland
The Blue Pools is a beautiful swimming hole found 30k’s from Maffra.
The Blue Pools is a very deep swimming hole on the Freestone Creek along the old Dargo Rd.
Large rocks come out of the Freestone which make perfect jumping platforms for the adventureous.
There is a bbq area on a grassy slope where shelter is also provided. Swim, bbq and bushwalk.
The bushwalking track takes you on a circuit where you will come accross an old mine and higher up a great lookout over the valley.Perfect spot all seasons.

The Gippsland Lakes offers something for everybody. Whether it be to hire a day boat and fish in one of the secluded inlets or to hire a houseboat for a week and visit the 90 mile beach, rivers and cruise the lakes. Budget to luxury cruisers are available at Bulls Cruisers in Paynesville. Safe and easy to navigate the Gippsland Lakes also offers good fishing and prawning (in season) and great opportunities for watersports. Many people just do not realise the expansive waterways, beauty and diversity that the area has to offer all year round.

The best and probably safest natural waterway experience in Victoria. The McMillan holiday village in Metung is a great place to base yourself with its excellent accommodation, protected marina and easy access to both ends of the Lakes system.

Eagle point village, on the edge of the Gippsland Lakes is a hidden treasure - fishing and boating on your doorstep with over 400sq. kms of inland waterways . Local wetlands, abundance of birdlife (over 160 species) natural fauna parks, dolphins, pelicans, and the unspoiled Ninety Mile Ocean beach as a backdrop.

The Gippsland Lakes have to be Victoria’s best kept secret! Our family has spent the last four summers down at Paynesville, where there are few crowds even at the height of the season. You can rent a house on the canals which lead straight out to the Gippsland Lakes. Hire a boat or bring your own so you can fish, waterski or simply tie up next to the dunes and find yourself on the magnificent 90 Mile Beach.

The Gippsland Lakes has a range of boating activities, to suit all ages and price ranges. From the largest boats “Thunderbird” and “Lonsdale” to the smaller “Mulloway” and “Lakes-Explorer” and also hire and drive. These boats are based in Lakes Entrance and travel daily on calm waterways.

Sailing, cruising or staying on the Gippsland Lakes has been our family’s favourite “must do” for many years - over 300 km of water to explore from Sale to Lakes Entrance, as well as the picturesque rivers feeding into the Lakes. Add to that great seaside villages to visit and Ninety Mile Beach just over the sand dunes - a fabulous natural experience with something new to see every visit.
