Stretching 300km from Torquay to Peterborough, the Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most scenic drives. The road wind’s over cliff tops, through headlands, down by the beach, across rivers and through rainforests with spectacular views at every turn.

My partner and I drove down the Great Ocean Road all the way to Port Campbell last weekend, and the views are stunning! Around every turn the magnificent coast can be seen. Suddenly you start driving through the bush, and before you know it the coast comes out of nowhere. A must see!
It has always been my No 1 recommendation for anyone visiting Victoria.
Living at the Geelong ending I am stunned when locals don’t even think of taking their visitors down it.
Being well travelled there are only one or two drive like this in the world, with great food to boot!
it is a beautiful scenic area although i find the road a bit dangerous to travel on.
The Great Ocean Road is a great drive. The scenery all along it is superb. All the towns are lovely. Each town is different but each has their own unique style. The road itself is a good road to drive on and all items of interest are marked clearly. The best
great ocean road drive
Whilst it is both exhilarating and challenging to navigate the long windy Great Ocean Rroad, the rugged coastline, scenic views, and the 12 apostles transport you to a magical serence dream.
Theres so many secluded scenic spots to visit on the drive along the Great Ocean Road. Stopping off in the Otway ranges was definately a highlight!!!!!
The scenery always changes, but is the same. Every drive along the Great Ocean Road is different and there are so many things to see, from the sear rock walls, to the mist over Apollo Bay, or the ever changing sea. Its just breath taking!
We have travelled the great Ocean Road many times. Even when the kids were little and throwing up!
The wondrous views continue to draw the eyes to that beautiful coastline. Colours constantly change.
The little Townships along the way provide great stop-over nooks and places of interest.
Never tire of driving along this spectacular coastline.
The Great Ocean Road is the road trip we take every international visitor on and they all say it’s the highlight of their holiday.
Fabulous scenery and great surf beaches
We have travelled most of Australia and still love to come back here. The scenery is stunning and it’s on our doorstep, we are so lucky.
A few years ago i did the great vic bike ride along the great road and what a experience.
My wife and I have traveled this road once before on a holiday we had to Melbourne back in 2003. It was one of the most scenic and pituresque drives we have had. To see the 12 Apostles was a major highlight of the trip. We would recommend it very highly to anyone who are thinking of the drive.
There is nowhere else like it in the world, breathtaking and natural beauty at its best.
The Great Ocean Road is beautiful no matter what conditions. When it rains it is just as majestic as being able to get out in the heat and see all the rock pools and incredible up close sights.
possibly the most spectacular natural view in Victoria. The different terrain you go through alone from melbourne to the end of the road is impressive…gives a good insight into the diversity of flora/fauna in australia
This is the most stunning drive in the world, with a beauty and rawness that only the Australian environment could produce.
The views are spectacular with plenty of great places to visit and stay
The greatest drive in the world that you can take.
Our family 2 Adults 2 children travelled on the great ocean road at xmas 07, the experience was great (4 stars) and will holiday again somewhere on the great ocean road in the near future.
Love the show

gorgeous views, and so many brilliant seaside towns to pop in to
gorgeous view. fresh air. sightseeing at your own pace. what more can you ask for?
We did this trip on our 12th wedding anniversay. At first we were not going to stop at every look-out thinking they would all be the same. To our suprise and delight every one of them was uniquely different. We were gob-smacked at the beauty of them all. Seeing the sheer size of the cliff faces and the thundering waves was a very humbling experience. It was also a nice opportunity to befriend people from all over the world as we often met up with the same people at each stop. We had the nicest lunch at Apollo Bay in this lovely upstairs cafe` looking out over the water. Everythink about the trip was just so special. I recommend it as a must see for anyone who loves the beauty of creation.
Great Ocean scenery a beautiful scenic drive while driving along one the Great Great Ocean Road.
one of the worlds great treasures, and its in our backyard
A beautiful drive, fantastic scenery and many great places to stay.
No matter what the season this areas is stunning and different each time I visit.
I voted for the Great Ocean Road. Seeing the 12 apostles when I was young was a magnificent site. Mum told us the story about the sailor and the passenger climbing the cliffs after the ship ran on the rocks. So the memory of seeing that has stayed in my memory. I can’t wait to share this beautiful part of Victoria with my own children
Scenic drive. The air is so fresh!
we have just had a few days away and this is about the 6th time we have driven the Great ocean road. It still takes my breath away. This was the first time i had seen the 12 apostles at sunset and they were beautiful.
It is a most enjoyable drive.
We get to see the twelve sisters while they still remain.
One of the essential road trips for anyone living in Australia, well worth the price in fuel for the view alone.
The GOR exhibits what Australia is all about, raw beauty, breath taking views and someones dream carved fom the hills and cliffs.
Truly amazing words cant do it justice….
This road is awesome, everyone should have or should drive down this fantastic and the most exciting road ever. The views are so outstanding, my family have been on that road so many times, and it never gets boring, so much to admire. This is a must for all drivers and their families, if you haven’t as yet, then put it on your next travelling list. Something which should not be missed.
It was an immense pleasure while I was driving from Warnambool to Port Cambell (twelve epistle). The scenic beauty and natural craft work at twelve epistle and memorial bay given me an enormous joy. It took millions of years to amke this natural craftwork for wind and water and I am the witness of these. It also given me great happiness.
A variety of places to stop, things to do mixed in with great places to eat and wiens to drink. What more could you wnat on a holiday…go with the family or even better with your partner
the great ocean road is my favorite destination to get rid of stress from work and personal issues .i once had a friend who was so stressed he was ready to snap .i suggested to him to come for a drive with me along the great ocean road and then into the rainforest and listen to the crashing waves and view the most fantastic scenery in the world.he was cured of stress by the end of our day trip and now we go often ,he cannot stop thanking me
Magnificent breath taking views at all times of the day weather it be an early morning sunrise or a magnificent evening sunset you won’t be disappointed with what the Great Ocean Road has to offer we truly live in a wounderful country
beautiful scenery lovely places to stay overnight and of course some great places to dine at
I thought the view was great in the car but now that I have a bike I will enjoy it even more.
The best place in the world!!!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and great place to send tourists
We drove it in the rain, wind and even some hail. We loved it, what an adventure!
the great ocean road is my favorite destination to get rid of stress from work and personal issues .i once had a friend who was so stressed he was ready to snap .i suggested to him to come for a drive with me along the great ocean road and then into the rainforest and listen to the crashing waves and view the most fantastic scenery in the world.he was cured of stress by the end of our day trip and now we go often ,he cannot stop thanking me.
This is the most magnificent drive with so many things to see and do along the way whether travelling on your own, as a couple or with the family. Hard to beat anywhere!
Wilson Promontary in May. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful. My wife and I spent a couple of days at the Prom. If you want total relaxation from noise, go to the Prom in May. Much to see and there are hundreds of bush walks to do. Go there Victoria……
I’m lucky enough to have to drive this road regularly as part of my trip from Melbourne to Lorne where I patrol as a surf lifesaver.. but I never get sick of it. As soon as I spot the ocean from the road a feeling of calm comes over me. It would have to be the most spectacular yet calming drive ever…
This would have to be the most spectacular drive
Not only is the Great Ocean Road a beautiful drive with wonderful scenery and marvellous attractions, I can’t help thinking back to when it was built, and all the hard work by hundreds of men. It also brings back memories of my father, from a photo taken in 1946 of him and his mates riding their motorcycles along this fabulous road.
The majestic beauty and power of the ocean, together with the calming peace of the waves crashing into the amazing rock formations. Any time we have visitors from overseas, we take them down the “ocean road” - they are always more than impressed.
A really wonderful scenic drive, with lots of things to see,One of the most amazing drives I have been on.
the scenery is just magnificent along its entire length and it is a tribute to the ww1 returned soldiers who built it.
One of the most scenic sights in Victoria. A relaxing drive with heritage towns and B&B’s nestled away on the coast.
During the winter, with the waves lapping the shoreline and the wind howling is fantastic. There are many stops to be made along the Great Ocean Road with inlets and historical plagues with information telling you about the trials and tribulations endured to get there.
Fascinating for all young and old
Enjoy it in a day or take your time and make it a touring holiday.
Either way you get the benefits and the excitement of time past
The great ocean road trip is the best way to explore the Victoiran coast by car or even better by motorbike.. True freedom
This drive is without a doubt one of the best in Australia. There are magnificent views at every twist and turn and the many walking trails and boardwalk areas provide access to some of the most spectacular views i have ever seen. i recommend it to all my visitors as i think it is just spectacular
My husband and I have travelled quite a few times through the great ocean road and whether the weather is good or not it still never fails with it’s magnficent views.Never get sick going up there and never will.
My husband and I ventured along this road and we must have been travelling with our jaws dragging along the roadside. Port Campbell and Port Fairy were our favourite. TThe scenery was great as were the people in all places we stopped for the night. Living just 5 minutes from the Hazelwood power station it was a privilidge and a dream when our kids chipped in for a spell away from our home. we have been away from our home 5 times now in the 29 years we’ve lived in Yinnar. I didn’t know that the Great ocean road was home to such splendour, the shows on Tv never really do it justice. The area just past the Apostles is spectacular, it reminded me of cakes with icing sugar dripping down the sides.(yep, I do have a sweet tooth.) Apollo Bay is perfect for a romantic getaway, the jetty or pier with the fantastic carvings on the foreshore are wonderful to stroll along before having dinner and wine in one of the pubs there. What more could an old chook like me wish for. Yep it was spectacular and awe inspiring at the same time; a change from the open cut in our area.
The reason l voted for thereat ocean road ,was because if you drive down this great road there is so much for the kids to look at and less stressfull for me because there is less of ‘ mum are we there yet?’ It’s got the thumbs up from me.
There is nothing in the world than driving along the Great Ocean Road the views are out of this world to see
Ibelieve the journey along the Great Ocean Road is the closest thing to heaven providing the ultimate opportunity to relax and take in the beautiful views even before you arrive to your destination and regardless of the weather. To be able to travel so close to the gorgegous Australian rugged coastline on one side and enjoy the natural bush including the occassional koalas …magic!
My husband and I work long hours and weekends so when we get away there is nothing nicer than the relaxing drive along the ocean road then staying at one of the spectacular accommodation venues on the way There are also some magnificent eating venues along the road to enjoy.
This drive is without a doubt the best Victoria, if not Australia, has to offer. Its magnificent views at every twist and turn leaves you in awe of the natural beauty on offer by our country. It is a spectacular journey everyone should expeience at least once in their lifetime.
A constant reminder of how truly wonderful a state we live in. You’ll have this marvellous sense of freedom and beauty nowhere else in Australia.
The Great Ocaen Road has so much to do and see…………it is a must for all families to visit…very beautiful.
The Great Ocean Road coastline is a NATURAL WONDER! We visit every year and always marvel at the views. We always impress our international visitors (family and friends) when we take them along the magnificent Great Ocean Road. We know this because when we’ve visited them, they have many framed (enlarged) photographs of our scenic coastline, the Apostoles, etc. on their walls and they rave about it being the best! Such compliments!!!
This is the most spectacular coastline in Australia. Everyone is gobsmacked!
I think that whether you live in Victoria or if your just visiting the main thing that anyone should do is drive along the Great Ocean Road. I live in Geelong myself and realy there is nothing like just going for a drive to clear your mind along the Great Ocean Road.
Being a Sydney-sider, I had always thought it was a bit over hyped. Then I visited and boy was I wrong! After eating a large slice of Melbourne humble pie I now tell others that it is the best drive in the world. Ssshhh…dont tell anyone but I now secretly love Victoria.
The views are out standing and the joy of driving down that road and the towns along the way are friendly and the nice little cafes are a delight.
a magnificent drive with vistas that change with every trip.
What a spectacular coastline. Simply stunning views.
The Great Ocean Road is a beautiful scenic drive down the coastline. During the winter months when it’s cold and rough, it’s truly magical. There’s lots to see and do - lovely nature walks, wildlife spotting, enjoying good food and just good old relaxation.
just amazing what mother nature created plus some help [road] brave veterans
Beutiful drive. Reminds me on Europe and drives from my former country.
A beautiful scenic drive showcasing the rugged coastline and incorporated with the historic towns and museums gives a great insight into the hardships experienced by our first settlers. One can only marvel that any ships made the safety of ports. To experience fully you will need to take your time as there is quite an amount of reading to be negotiated.
Heaven on Earth - NOTHING compares!
The most beautiful scenic drive and views ever. I took my mum & dad to the apostles. the day & weather was perfect.
The Great Ocean Road’s a must because it’s…
- something that’s unique to Victoria,
- free and open to everyone and anyone who passes by,
- showcases breath-taking natural scenery,
- has historical significance,
- gorgeous range of beautiful beaches,
- and it’s home to the 12 apostles (see these whilst they’re all still there!)
It’s beautiful, I feel relaxed when I’m down there great place to have a holiday
The view, the places and the fantatic food ad people
centuries of beautiful coastline battered by the sea - natures wonder
This is a great path for any tourist!! highly recomended
Driving the Great Ocean Road is a truly breathtaking experience and we are truly blessed as victorians to have this amazing work of mother nature on our doorstpes. Every one of the 273 km’s of the Great Ocean Road is worth seeing, with it spellbinding curves and dramatics cliffs. This part of Victoria is certainly not one to miss.
stunning scenery and we were lucky enough to see a whale and calf.
The Great Ocean Rd would have to be one of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world. With breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, stunning national parks and charming seaside towns it is hard to beat.
My favourite place for a holiday weekend. Breathtaking scenery, lots of places to stay, we usually end up eating at the great cafes in Lorne.
What a great way to see Oz with or without the kids. Always good fun on the motorbike too.
No matter what your age or budget is there is something to see & do along Australias most beautiful, mystical & relaxing natural piece of heaven.
It is an addictive drive that keeps you wanting to do it over & over again!
Beautiful scenery, lots of beatiful areas to see - waterfalls, beaches, mountains, bushland, what more could you ask for?!?!
The Great Ocean Road inspires me , with breathtaking views, there’s always something to see. I think we sometimes take for granted the destinations that Australia has to offer. The Apostles are still a wonder, even though they are slowly diminishing. Always well worth stopping for.
It’s a great drive… Really makes you feel alive driving along the rugged coastline. So exhilarating!!!
The Great Ocean Road area has so many beautiful locations with a wide variety of scenery and places to see and relax. At different times of year and different times of day the scenery is so beautiful in many various ways. Sunrise to sunset the Great Ocean Road is my most beautiful location to visit time and time again.
I enjoy this route because of the breath-taking scenery and twists and turns in the road that my car traces along. Each town opens up with new surprises such as an array of shops, cafes and accomodation. This trip is further satisfying with its beautiful beaches and tourist icons.
There is something surreal about this place that always makes it feel special
A great experience any day of the week.
Great experience breathtaking views
it is just breathtaking, picturesque.one of the great tourist attractions that victoria can be proud of and promote to the world!!
I voted for the great Ocean Road because the drive is beautiful along the coast and there are a lot of great towns to stop and stay at, especially over the summer so you can see the best of the great ocean road and enjoy the coast
None needed
To catch glimpses of the sea round the bends and awaiting to sight the Twelve Apostles and fish among the rocks in the depths of winter is to experience the magnificience and power of Nature.
I visited from Canada just over a year ago and the Great Ocean Road is one of the most beautiful road trips in the world, a truly unforgettable and breathtakingly beautiful place. I hope to return one day. Loved Melbourne too.
It shows parts of Australia with amazing historical stories at each place you stop. The views of the beach and the surrounding landscape are spectacular, with the windy road fun or if your my wife scary to drive along. Every trip is an exciting memory for me.
Just the greatest drive and scenery i’ve enjoyed - many times. And after cruising the coast, can’t do better than to stop at possibly the most picturesque beach anywhere, at Pt Addis, have a wander along the beach taking in more spectacular views, until I can get the gear off, get a sandy bum, then cool off in the surf. Everyone I’ve taken there loves it.
Just one of the majic places of victoria , known all over the world ,a symbol of victoria, iconic place of beauty.
This is almost a spiritual experiece especially Sunrise & Sunset, definitely to be shared with a loved one.
We have travelled along the Great Ocean Road on quite a few occasions now and have always enjoyed the magnificent views and the closeness of the sea as if was our first time.
Take a week to soak up the magnificence of this wonderful drive.
The thrill, majesty and beauty of this drive surpasses all other drives anywhere in the world.
This road built by, and now a memorial to, returned servicemen from World War 1 provides some truly breathtaking seascapes. Also along the way the traveller is able to pull into a variety of distinctive townships to either break up the trip, have a meal or stay overnight.
This is one of the most beautiful drives in Australia, it makes you feel very special that you can drive along and enjoy the feeling of freedom, that this great trip provides any time of year.
The great Ocean Road provides a scenic and relaxing drive with excellent overnight accommodation opportunities along the way. On the beaches are divine to go off the main road into National Parks, visit magnificent waterfalls, treetop walk and breathtaking panoramic views from lookout points. Easy access from Melbourne, climaxing in the beautiful and scenic Apollo Bay. What more can you ask for.
Drove the road in April with family, the sites were amazing. The helicopter flight over the Twelve Apostles was the highlight for my wife, daughter & son. Our stay in Warrnambool was great a convenient location for day trips to Port Fairy and other places.
The Great Ocean Road is truly one of the worlds greatest war memorials, which should be travelled by every Australian.
This magical drive is a forever changing, breathtaking beauty. Even in the middle of winter, the colours will still blow you away. It is a must see for all Australians and overseas visitors alike.
After meeting my boyfirend’s family in Warrnambool, we took the Great Ocean Road home to Melbourne - what a beautiful drive, even though the weather was drizzly and overcast, we had a wonderful time and stopped for lunch on the way. We had hired a car which made the experience even better! (2008 Aldi) I highly recommend it to everyone - especially for those who are lucky enough to have it in their own backyard!!
This awesome meandering drive always take all my cares away, lifting my spirit and leaving me hallucinating this heavenly creations of greens, mountains and pristine waters.
A great day out for the family with beautiful scenery. What a great way to enjoy a picnic or local fish and chips as well as experiencing the marine history of this area.
Most scenic drive in Victoria. Almost meditative. Sometimes I imagine I am Jeremy Clarkson test driving the latest Super Car. It just brings a smile to my face.
I am so grateful that we have the Great Ocean Road. Why travel elsewhere when we have this amazing road with spectacular scenic views. The road never lets me down no matter what season or part of the year it is. I recommend everyone to go there and I pledge my vote for this road.
The Great Ocean Road is so amazing that I never tire of driving on it. The scenic views take my breath away and I try to go there on weekends. I always feel fresh and in a good mood after the drive. I vote for this road as the best road not only in Australia but in the whole world. We are very blessed to have this road.
The Great Ocean Rd is so beautiful from go to woe that you have to take your time and stop in most Ports. Being able to wake to the sound of the waves was the best sleep we all got although we live near the bay. You must see it as a driver and a passenger and make time to stop at all the carparks even the ones that arn’t signed, you don’t know what you’ll find. The only thing that we found upsetting was the way the Forest/Ranges were being cut down. But its a must for all young and old. Try it you’ll keep going back and each time you do you’ll find something new again…
Every time I drive down the Great Ocean Road , I feel my spirit lifted by the magnificant scenery and magical glitter of the ocean waves on a sunny day - I feel as if I am being transformed into another world that is almost unreal - if I could fly I would sore over the magestic and heavently arched curls and follow their path to the shore.
just absolutely beautiful, you can’t rush it.
Wow! Kids love it for exploring along beaches and cliffs, mum and dad for the food and relaxing on the beach….Apollo Bay is a favourite, can’t beat Loch Ard Gorge and the koalas at Cape Otway are amazing. We went there last year and are going back again this year to see all we missed. I can’t wait and the kids keep asking when we are going.
It is always a great holiday to take my overseas visitors , lots to see good food, good walks beach what more do you need.
I have taken several international visitors down the Great Ocean Road over a period of time. It never ceases to amaze me - every time being totally different due to the weather and the oceans. You can experience 4 seasons whilst viewing the apostles. The most asked questions from the visitors - “I thought there were 12″. On our most recent trip we stopped at Wye River for a drink at the pub right on the beach, spotted koalas in the trees as we drove along, visited Lochardt George with the waves thundering through the opening and enjoyed afternoon tea at Port Campbell making our Scottish visitors feel most welcome due to the English feel. We completed our journey with an enjoyable and memorable stay at the quaint little fishing village of Port Fairy - a definite favourite of our family as a result of many an enjoyable long weekend spent at the Music Festival. I never tire of visiting this part of Victoria.
Why use words…You can see the reason why so many people recommend this as a must do.
For its scenery and natural beauty
Great, drive, great view and great historical achievement by our returned World War one diggers. They did it for their mates.
The vista traveling along the Great Ocean road is really something comparitively very few around the world get to experience. What a great vision to take in and a fantastic view no matter what time of the day or part of the year.
A beautiful scenic drive and stop at Chris’s Beacon Point Restaurant for Lunch.
I have driven from one end to the other, I have flown over most of it, I have ridden a motorbike over a lot of it, I have viewed most if it by boat, I have dived most of it and seen most of the wrecks, I have also abseiled over parts of it, my parents had a little farm at Peterborough, I have been camping at this area since I was 16 years of age (now 52).
And I still have not seen much of it, as there is still so much more.
Les
Spectacular coastline with lovely coastal towns and rugged cliff faces. No doubt one of Australia’s best coastal drives, and an easy day trip from Melbourne. Get the convertible & sunnies out and brace yourself for some breath taking sights.
How can you even ask - such a natural wonder with the work of humans. It takes my breath away every time. We are so lucky to have this at our doorstep[!
Unbelievable drive - better than drives along the lakes in Italy and the coast of Spain.
Fantastic scenic drive, always a highlight for our overseas visitors as well.
such sensational sights, from the aireys lighthouse, the beautiful sea, mountains, spectacular fauna and flora and not to leave out the delicious restaurants and pubs along the way
I drove the Great Ocean Road a few years back and it took seven hours just to get to Port Campbell from Queenscliff, every corner there was something new to see and being and avid photographer my breath was taken away. The hotel manager at Port Campbell commented that l must have really enjoyed the drive when it took that long to reach there. I have every intention of driving the Great Ocean Road again very soon.
Breathtaking drive with plenty of fun stops along the way. It makes a fantastic (and somewhat tiring) day trip from Melbourne for friends and relatives visiting from overseas. Or even better, drive down to one of the lovely seaside towns, Apollo Bay is a favourite, and stay a week at one of the many holiday houses up for rent (remember to book ahead!).
beautiful drive, very relaxing, great places to stay, makes you want to just keep on driving to see what is next. Very romantic and very refreshing.
glorious ocean vistas, wild and free, with excellent opportunities to take in the beauty of the Otways and surrounding hinterland - what more could you want?
A stunning and refreshing visual experience augmented by natural daily change.
This is a family holiday i will never forget!! I would have been about 12 and i am now 30, i just remember it being breathtaking. We took a helicopter joy flight over the 12 Apostles, all i remember is the WOW factor.
What a great part of the Aust coast line.
Short of the Western Australian coastline, this has to be my most favourite…..WA just pips it, because of it’s crystal clear waters…..but for us Vics, the GOR is tops!
We enjoy scenic drives. We last went there as kids with our families before we met and would love to do the trip again so we can enjoy it together.
I was overwhelmed with emotion the first time I saw it….it still takes my breath away. This little piece of gold is something I want my children to share in too.
We took a couple of carloads of Canadians along the Great ocean Road and they were amazed and then believed all we had said about it
fantastic views plus great memories of many good times with friends and family
Magnificent views, cliff walks, interesting towns to explore, the smell of the ocean, the markets.
The Great Ocean Rd is just that and can only be found in Victoria. Yes there are other Ocean Drives around the Globe but none are the same as Victoria’s Great Ocean Rd.
The Great Ocean Road is a fantastic driving experience with spectacular scenery all the way. I think it’s the best drive in Australia.
The Great Ocean Rd is a fantastic, scenic drive, with so much to see and do along the way. Whenever I drive on it, I always marvel at the work of the 3000 returned World War I servicemen who built it as a memorial to the diggers who were killed at war. We had family visiting from Hong Kong recently and they were astounded by the beauty and gorgeous scenery along the way. One family member was astounded when the family stopped for a picnic in a picnic ground overlooking the ocean, it was the first time she had ever walked on grass!
I have driven and cycled along it. A spectacular piece of coastline with pristine beaches and incedible rock formations. Variety plus.
I have driven on the Great Ocean Road dozens of time over the last 20 years when I owned a timeshare week at Lorne (The Cumberland). Unfortunately we owners were bought out involuntarily by CBUS (Construction & Building Union Superannuation) fund who obtained a controlling interest of the developer David Marriner, so I have not driven down there for 3 years. That said, it is a great trip but just be careful of you are driving into the sun as the route is both beautiful and winding. Drive west after dawn and drive east after lunch time is best. The inland route from Geelong thought farm land and then over the mountain forest and down into Lorne is a good trip too.
I believe driving down the great ocean road is not only breathtaking but is also serene. There is a lot to do from the markets at apollo bay and the beautiful beaches as well as the Otway National Park.
Great road, great view. Now spoiled by too much traffic, irresponsible drivers/riders and inconsiderate people.
great ocean rd is a breathtaking insperational drive around our beautiful coastline
A drive comparable to any on east coast of Qld. Enjoy a scenic drive to Apollo Bay and visit the many fantastic waterfalls in the area. The saturday market is a must do and the food in the local restaurants and cafe’s is fantastic. A great place to unwind and recharge.
The great ocean Rd is a great drive for a Sunday outing ,it is a shame we get some motor cyclists ina hurry.
also likewise the Grampians
I’m from Perth and I shipped my XE ESP over last Nov / Dec for the ESP 25th Anniversary Celebrations in Melb. After visiting the Discovery Center in Geelong on a Friday evening , we stayed overnight in Geelong and on the Saturday morning around 8 of us in our ESPs went for a cruise on the Ocean Road to Lorne for lunch. Was a fantastic drive and the scenery is magnificent. If you visit Geelong you can not miss doing the Ocean Road drive !!! Was one of the highlights of my visit to Melbourne.
Absolutely Fabulous!!!!
I have only driven the great ocean road once and found it a terrific experience.
The Great Ocean Road is one of Australias most amazing stretches of Rd with a fabulous view & history to accompany it.
Absolutely must do, must have, must go for overseas traveller. Enjoyable in the winter, enlivening in the spring, exceptional in the summer and entertaining in the Autumn.
it was a brilliant drive and scenic to. i would highly recomend it.
Th great ocean road 12 Apostles is one of a kind, the wonderful breeze, the drive along the coast with spectacular scenic views can never be found anywhere else in the Australia.
Beautiful and spectacular at any time of the year, the splendour never ceases to amaze me.
driving down great ocean road and visiting Erskine falls
Love Torquay - one of my favorite beaches. The drive has the best scenery - great viewing spots. Lorne is a great cafe / restaurant town.
This drive have one of those real wow factors.
As it starts out you can’t help to go “oh” and “ah”, loosing your breath at “Teddy’s lookout”, eating amazingly fresh seafood at any of the many restaurants, seeing Kangaroos & Koalas in the wild & the 12 Apostles - well it’s just stunning.
There is nothing better than being able to drive along the coast for many kilometres. Lorne was one of the first places I visited when on holiday in Victoria for the first time over thirty years ago. It reminded me of a beautiful beach in Albany, WA.
I have enjoyed staying at Lorne and Apollo Bay.
Around every corner there is something new to experience.
Beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, the 12 Apostles and great seaside towns. Something for everyone to enjoy!
I am very impressed by the history of the great Ocean Road. What an amazing feat of road construction and engineering. A wonderful memorial to our returned soldiers as well as a great scenic drive.
Sandra
This place blows your mind! Windy roads, quaint spots, brilliant food; one with nature….I can suffer with travel sickness, but not here - the scenry & views are breath taking that you don’t have time, too excited to take it all in!! enjoy.
I love the great ocean road. You can stop anywhere anytime and jump out of the car on a hot day and run into the ocean to cool off preferably with a life saving club nearby. Its the real aussie bush setting, fauna and flora that bring me to the area. The fresh breeze in all the towns from anglesea down to lorne. I love the way you can see a play as we did, go to the cinema, out for dinner and still swim, fish and bush walk by day!!. The great ocean road is a never ending dream of holiday happiness just waiting to be found and experienced!
the best experience ever - from start to finish - spectacular views and a great mood sweeps over you when traversing the Great Ocean Road - puts a smile on your face and the scenery is to die for
The best scenic drive, in the world, beautiful beaches, an excellent
choice to seaside towns, along the coastline, with fantastic facilities.
Beautiful and scenic
it is such a beautiful drive, you get to see mother nature at her best on the magnificent coast line. On top of this there is so much to do along the way, whether you bring your surfboard or stop for coffee as you pass through.
Inspiring, majestic and totally awesome! This magnificent road captures the ruggedness, the beauty and the gentleness of nature. The turbulent surf, the rolling waves, the beaches and precarious cliffs magically change every day as the road meanders and turns to reveal new sights of awe! A fantastic road leading to fantastic places.
What a wonderful part of our country, everyone should see it regularly. Just beautiful
stunning ocean drive..a must see for visitors. cruise along stopping of for refreshing dips in the deep blue sea.
This was the first place, we as a couple drove down just after our wedding. The drive, its mesmerising beauty and the company of my husband made it a wonderful experience….the rest was done by the mere sight of Twelve Apostles. Its just so gorgeously beautiful that words are not enough to explain….one has to experience it.
What more can you say - it is the Great Ocean Road. To me it rates as the Greatest Ocean Road in the World!!
The drive, spectacular in itself, was made all the more special by the fact that my wife and I travelled the GOR on our honeymoon. A perfect way to end a perfect Victorian spring.
Spectacular coastline. To have the breeze blowing in your face and gazing out into the open ocean what a wonderful feeling of freedom and a real connection with nature!!
Spectacular coastline. To have the breeze blowing in your face and gazing out into the open ocean what a wonderful feeling of freedom and a real connection with nature!!
a wonderful drive with many great scenery, learned how to appreciate the beauty of nature!
This coastal drive is just the best and i could spend the next few years trying to get to all the places I want to see along this coast. Whether we stay in the caravan park or a hotel or best still one of the idyllic B&B’s, each and every trip is unique. We love horseriding at Johanna, enjoying gourmet food in Lorne or catching a fish off in the postcard perfect Port Campbell harbour. Will keep on driving this road for many years to come.
Lots of fantastic scenery and stop offs for the children. We love staying at Airies Inlet Holiday park as it is a small family run park.Very friendly and safe.We catch up with the same families every year and have formed some great friendships.5 Star for us!!
When our friends and family visit from overseas I am besides myself with the excitement of taking them on a Great Ocean Road discovery. Going to all of the usual stops and then taking in few new ones each trip and six years later there are still plenty of places I want to see on that stunning drive. I love watching our friends faces as we round another corner are follow some steps to a breathtaking beach or waterfall. I never fail to be amazed at Loch Ard Gorge’s power how it flicks between the deafening silence of a waning wave and heart pounding rush of an incoming tide. From lattes on in Lorne to canoeing the Glenelg.. from start to finish, I never want it to end.
IT IS SOMETHING I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO,BUT HAVEN,T AS YET .
I HAVE SEEN SO MANY DIFFERANT PITURES. IT MUST BE A GREAT DRIVE,
AND IF I WIN ,WELL WE CAN TAKE OUR TIME STAYING WHERE EVER WE WANT,& AT [ 73,&63yrs old] & PENSIONERS, I FEEL AT LAST THROUGH COXY,S GIVEAWAY WE MAY BE ABLE TO LIVE A DREAM.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPATUNITY TO GO IN THE DRAW.
REGARDS ANNETTE JOLLY.
I know many people who have driven it and spoken about it and i have always listened in great awe in the hope of one day doing it myself. The pictures are beautiful and captivating.
The views are breathtaking and spectacular! No matter how many times you take the drive, you are guaranteed of a different experience each time..
It is beautiful, spectacular and never get bore.
Every drive down that way offers something new to see. The views are refreshing and breathtaking. It is an adventure that all visitors to Victoria should experience. and those that live in Australia.
the scenery and views are absolutely spectacular, plenty sight seeing, activities, accommodation and dining to be experienced as you travel around the Great Ocean Road.
this is something that nowhere else in the world offers. the drive is simply amazing and you are amazed no matter how many times you do it. A must do for every victorian and every visitor to victoria.
peaceful, mind blowing, the scenic drive the smell of fresh air… the wildlife and watching the sea ripple what more could you ask for??
Having travelled this road many times whilst on my way to visit Mt Gambier, (relatives & friends), the sea is ever changing and always amazes me how powerful and vast it is. Always wonderful to see what is around the next corner and absolutely love the different landscapes that will suddenly appear, as well as wondering what side of the road the next car will be on!!
Always beautiful and different.
The Great Ocean Road is magic! It is my favourite of the many wonders of Victoria and Australia.
i have been to the grat ocean road 4 times till now but every time I find it more and more exciting.
Its a really beautiful place to go and its the best scenic place in Victoria.
A fantastic driving holiday which offers a lot of variety. Its so easy to get around and there are many great places to stop and view, eat and stay. I could do this trip many more times!
The best Vic ‘must-do’. When I lived in Melbourne I worked with someone who had never been along the GOR despite having lived in Melb his whole life. My advice to him was to take a weekend, or more, and discover it for himself. He didn’t take that advice. Shame really, he’s missing out.
Why I believe that the Great Ocean is aptly named:
G is for glorious, the vistas we behold;
R is for rugged cliffs, that are ever so bold
E is for experience, Mother Nature’s own beauty
A is for aesthetic, it’s all so appealing!
T is for tour, the towns histories revealing…
O is for ocean, as far as can be seen
C is for delicious cuisines, just fit for a queen
E is for equilibrium of nature and spirit
A is for activities, plenty to see and do
N is for neighbourly, locals whom welcome you
R is for relaxing, an escape from life’s stresses
O is for opulence, lovely cottages and houses
A is for adventures, great times you will spend
D is for a delightful drive from start to end.
the great ocean rd. driving around the best road in the world. the best views.
we are spoiled.
An amazing stretch of cliff and water views which cannot be seen anywhere else int he country
i took my 12 year old son to see the twelve apostles last xmas, my holiday with him was “made” when we came around the corner to the viewing platform, his jaw dropped and the only word he spoke was ”awesome”. i then took him on the helicopter flight around the apostles, i was the best mum.
he still talks of bells beach and those kwool scate parks at lorne and woornambool, he wants to do the trip again these holidays this time taking a mate. i am on a winner
Its and absolutely breath-taking experience and we dont have to travel overseas to embrace it.
I havent done this yet but has ALWAYS been an aim of mine. Have only ever heard good things about the amazing views!
Great challanging & enjoyable drive if your the driver and great views for the passengers.
The Great Ocean Road has to be one of the most spectacular scenic drives and takes in beach, rivers, rainforests, wildlife and historic towns. This leisurely drive can be done in a day, or take your time and stay overnight at one of the many bed & breakfasts on offer.
My first experience of travelling the Great Ocean Road as an adult, was on the back of my father’s motorcycle. There is nothing like gliding through the corners of that cliff-clinging road on a two-wheeled vehicle.
With endless ocean views around Lorne and Apollo Bay, and the tender scents of the Ottway forests, I truly believe the Great Ocean Road is the most beautiful part of Australia.
And if you do go by motorbike - make sure you stop at the Arab cafe in Lorne! It’s the perfect place to chat with other riders, and check out what they’re riding!
The great ocean road has a landscape to take your breath away. No matter what time of the year it is always picturesque. There are many B&B’s along the way and makes a perfect weekend get away from the hussle and bussle of Melbourne.
A relaxing drive, intertwining the sea views with the beautiful Otway forests. Stopping at the lookouts is highly recommended, as they have breathtaking views . It can get very cold and windy on the coast, so ensure that adequate clothing is taken.
It is natural, the air is fresh and the scenery is better than any artist could ever paint. A great way to introduce small children to nature at its best.
I have recently re-driven the Great Ocean Road, and I feel that it is one of the most soothing, beautiful drives anywhere.
It is a lovely scenic drive with things for everyone - the see (and occassionally whale watching) the cliffs, the small towns for stops, B&Bs for weekends away, the trails for walking etc - how can anything compete with this.
Last year I spend a couple of months in Europe and whilst it was stunning in places it didnt make me feel how I feel when I make the trip along this great road of ours.
My first and most memorable trip since I moved to Victoria. I’ve travelled to many places but I’ve not seen such a magnificient sight of the 12 Apostles and London Bridge. A scenic driving trip along the Great Ocean - grateful to the people who had constructed a smooth and safe road for us to enjoy the wonders of nature!
I love to show overseas visitors this iconic piece of Australian landscape. It features some spectacular sea views combined with lush rainforest and farming. Little towns along the way feature some fine dining and wonderful relaxing side visits.
When I moved back to Australia from NZ in 2003, I was so keen to see the Great Ocean Road. In the first 12mths, we drove along it, at least 3 times!! I have seen some amazing scenery in the many countries incuding Australia, this rates one of the Best!! As it nears Campbells Bay,the scenery becomes more breathtaking, mixed with the Wonderful History of how this Road was made & by whom it was made, Our Legendry DIGGERS!!!
I feel truly blessed to have such easy access to this Truly Amazing Natural & Manmade WONDER!!!! I see new things everytime we travel along it! The beautiful seaside towns just top the whole trip off!!
The views of the coastline along the Great Ocean Road are stunning, and there is so much to see and do along this fabulous road trip. You can stop for food or just to admire the view of the coast or the twelve apostles. Highly recommnded for all tourists to see.
The drive down the great ocean road is very relaxing and enjoyable. The trip shows the beauty of our beautiful caost line in victoria. Nature has cetaintly been kind to us.. There are clean comfortable placess to stay and dine.
The grat ocean road offers clean crips fresh air to breath in and realax.
We escape to the great ocean road when we want to de stres from every day busy lives.
Wish we could afford to live there.
secret surfing spots along the great ocean road = GOLD!
After living in the region until moving out of home at 22 it The great Ocean Road was on your doorstep but taken for granted it was always there. Then after moving away and exploring the world and being to other “so called” major tourist areas, you realise how pristine, rugged and beautiful the area is , and how beautiful it is to come home.
The Great Ocean road is a great trip for the whole family whether it be for just a day or a few days. There is something for the whole family to see and do.
After travelling this icon and seeing Mother nature’s painting in the flesh, the realizeation that the rugginess is so real and breathtaking beautiful, i was taken aback .
Then my accomodation booking at the so famous ‘Glenample property’ was everything I dream of so quiet and relaxing sharing a little bit of a working farm on the edge of the coast , with the infamous Homestead still standing as if it’s story was still keeping it alive
The whole of the eastern side of the Great Ocean Road was magic but the stacks of the 12 Apostles and the carving of all the features at the Port Campbell National parK are the special ending to a wonderful experience.
The Great Ocean Road is so relaxing to drive and the scenery is just so beautiful. We love the little towns you go through and the secluded beach spots. It’s the best, so clean, so natural, so Aussie!
Beautiful scenery, great beaches, gorgeous forests, waterfalls and the drama of the shipwrecks to boot. A romantic getaway or family break for a couple of days or several weeks this is one place that always delivers. Never get tired of it.
I absolutely love driving along the Great Ocean Road. The drive makes me feel good especially with all the amazing scenic views and great landscape. Recently, during Summer I was almost every weekend at Lorne enjoying the beach and great food. I never get sick of driving there and I always make sure I take along my overseas relatives to experience the drive and to go back home and brag about it. We are very blessed to have this road.
Your heart just soars and your breath leaves you as you look out over one of the most spectacular places on earth. The blue of the ocean, the white of the sand, the changing colours of the rocks, it calms you and makes you realise just how clever mother nature is.
What a disappointment! After seeing the ads for years I travelled across Australia to find not twelve apostles but eight and London Bridge had fallen down. Please don’t hype a place if it can’t live up to it.
My partner is from California, USA … as you know there is a tendency for them to think they have the best of everything! Well, our trip along the Great Ocean Road, including crayfish in Apollo Bay, kept a certain “tourist” very quiet!! The GOR is without comparison!
I dont know how many visitors to Victoria I have driven through this magnificant stretch of road but it still spins me out.
All great roads lead to our wonderful Western District, the greatest place in Victoria. So it gets my vote!
Make sure your’e the passenger so to admire the spectacular scenery
After ww1′ the Goverment of the day’ set the return soldiers an impossible task of creating a road on the coast line.It was not thought they could do this by hand with the meager equiptment that wasavaible in 1919.eg pick, shovel, horse scoup, with the occassionally dymonite.
These men had saved our country by their determation -blood -guts and sweat, .therefore they were not going to be overcome by this task.
Work was scarce and ecomonic times were tough. These men needed to be occuppied and work together to a goal, was a great psyicological advantage even though the pay was small .
The Great Ocean Road has tremendous charactor, beauty and charm. It doesn;t matter what the season or what the weather throws at you; that special beauty of oceanviews and salty fresh air we breath. The cliffs with there unique vegitation will be in our memories for ever
I know when I think of this magmificiant drive “those return soldiers have really left us a senic drive to remember as well as saving our beautiful Austratia
Summer, the beach, sunbaking, swimming, a feeling of freedom, romance, gale force winds, icy cold in winter, forests and wildlife, the blowhole spray and wild, dangerous coastline make the Great Ocean Road a perfect holiday destination.
A historic and spectacularly breathtaking scenic drive along the Great Ocean Road from Torquay to Wye River. Experience exceptional sandy family beaches in Anglesea and Lorne, patrolled in summer, or choose a world class surf beach such as Bell’s Beach as your base for a delightful summer break. Lorne has a wide array of accommodation to suit everyone’s requirements, eateries and tea houses, plentiful shopping experiences, nightlife, and festivals such as Falls Festival over the New Year’s break. A definite must-see. Lemonade Creek Cottages was our base for the summer break, and was exceptional boutique-style accommodation. Highly recommended.
stay in apollo bay and motel marengo - visit the otway fly and triplet waterfalls all along the great ocean road
What an awesome part of the world the Great Ocean Road is! A fantastic scenic drive of natural beauty…with lots to do in the townships that grace its drive. Simply Stunning!
We should be more involved with our children. Showing them the values, history and beautiful surrounds of the wonders of the Great Ocean Road. A great family get away that can get fresh air into their lungs and off computers. Experience life!
The road is one if not the best roads in victoria, the scene changes from forest to coast. Beautiful scenary all the way with nice little towns to stop in. The drive is so very relaxing.
Forget the car, you haven’t lived until you’ve ridden the Great Ocean Road on a motorbike.
I did it almost every Sunday morning for quite a few years, rain or shine it didn’t matter. Just go and do it.
Make sure your Camera memory card is clear because the beautiful scenery from sunrise to sunset will carry you away.
we stayed in lorne at the cumberland terrific accomadation
the drive was great along the great ocean road
i enjoyed the relaxed amosphere in lorne and the sun sets were most beautiful and i have some photos to prove it
A fabulous drive, world famous and rightly so. Sheer cliffs, amazing construction effort, fabulous sea views, crashing waves and sandy beaches. Add in lovely seaside towns along the way, and enough curves to satisfy Rembrandt, and it’s an unforgettable trip!
Heaven on Earth!
I can never get enuf of driving the gr8 ocean rd. whether its to go fishing, or buy some seafood down at the apollo bay fishing coop, or to just relax on the beach, its a GORGEOUS scenic drive and place to. And you cant forget the apostles, which there are only 8 of, but look gorgeous at sunset.
It is always the number one thing i want to go do!! And always the place I take tourists when they visit us. I’m really proud of the gr8 ocean rd!
The great ocean road is a must see. It is a beautiful drive along the coast road and the many towns you come across all have their own piece of history.
The magical coastal drive of the country and visitors remember this amazing scenic drive than any other places in Australia even years later!
We have regularly driven the Ocean Road for more than 30 years and still find it as magnificent as when we made our first drive. It must be driven in both directions as the scenery is so different on the return drive.
The Great Ocean Road has all the things that you associate with Victoria. Beautiful beaches, Australian bush, breathtaking scenery and fantastic towns along the way. What more could you want!!!
the great ocean road captures scenery so beautiful and scenic views anytime of the year. its coastal views is breath takingly beautiful.
The Great Ocean Road is just Beauitful and a must do in victoria it is relexing and very picturess and tranquil.
my hubby and i spent our honeymoon in Lorne just off the great ocean road so it is very sentimental to me. we have never forgotten how beautiful the scenic drives were and how friendly the locals were
This is one of the most spectacular parts of Victoria. In the last couple of years we have had a few exchange students stay with us and they are always in awe of the sheer beauty of the landscapes viewed along this drive. There is so much along the way for every interest and age group from singles, couples to families. It has such diversity and uniqueness which really showcases the beauty of our land.
The great ocean road is a beautiful drive with wonderful stops that has spectacular views all year round.
Such a serene, peaceful experience and what better escape from the hustle and bustle of the city of Melbourne - yet only a couple of hours away from the city itself!
We find it convenient to get to on a weekend - great for a last minute idea on a weekend to just unwind without having to book flights or travel extensively!
We love it so much that we spend our anniversaries there and are going to marry in Lorne next year! Obviously, a favourite of ours!
Amazes me everytime I see it!!!
The Great Ocean Road is one of the only Victorian holiday spots that is just as beautiful and fun in Winter as it is in the warmer months.
The Great Ocean Road is a must-do trip for everyone. It has the best of everything - most beautiful ocean views, great swimming, mountains, forest, shopping, eating, rivers, even glow worms. There is something for everybody - just enjoy!
To drive where rugged mountains meet the sea, the sun spilling through the sky at dusk beats anything else i’ve ever seen, including Disneyland, Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower. Earthy and at the same time ethereal, it’s Australia at its best.
The amazing views of the ocean the lovley cities and the vileges the information spots that give you a wonderful vista.
I moved from Sydney, NSW 4 years ago and the Great Ocean Rd was my first road trip in Victoria. It has it all, great winding roads & coastal views, friendly beachside towns and accomadation to meet all budgets. If any of my friends and family come to visit from oveseas or interstate it is always the first trip I suggest.
I have now done the drive 5 times and I will never get bored of it.
The coast road, the hinterland near Lavers Hill and Johanna and the Otways makes this area of Victoria spectacular. I have been visiting this part of Victoria for almost 30 years and it remains one of the best parts of the world in my view. It changes all the time. It is amazing on a beautiful sunny day and breathtaking on a grey day when the wind whips up from the Antarctic and you are surrounded by the force of nature.
its a great drive the views are great its a great day out
its a great drive the views are great its a great day out
We have relatives who come to melbourne every 3 years and each time they love to do the great ocean road drive. They have done the Calafornia coast drive as well but believe this is just spectacular……..so do we …we do lorne @ the cumberland every year too.
cheers
My husband and myself with a group of friends traveled the Great Ocean Road, Cup day weekend 2007 on our road bikes great ride (weather not so fantastic) but great views would love to do it again but without the rain.
Best seen from both directions, so the driver gets to see the breathtaking scenery properly and safely!
Peterborough at dusk with the 12 (11) apostles blending into the sunset was my most vivid memory (and spectacular photo)
Lovely coastal towns with a long family tradition of visitation.
I recently have had the pleasure of doing the great ocean road for the first time. While my son (who lives overseas) came for a visit we went to visit an Aunite of my husbands in Portland and we live near Shepparton. What stunning scenery we have in this great state of ours. My daughter in law (who is Canadian) thought it was breathtaking. And being able to enjoy it with my 2 gransons made it all that much more magical. As you know pictures can never do justice and the smell of the ocean and the wind blowing though your hiar just make it amazing! So not only was it an eye opening experience for me it was also a trip for the heart.
I love VICTORIA and the drive to Great Ocean Road is scenic and beautiful !
Looking at the list I was exasperated-but I knew straight away that his is the most spectacular sight - your midn just wanders into the ocean and it is so invigorating
Just awesome, once will never be enough. I love Port Fairy, and Peterborough is a world away from Peterborough in the UK where I spend my working week.
Everytime we have guests from overseas/interstate over, we take them down the great ocean road because it’s the most beautiful part of our state and who could forget it. They never fail to be amazed at their surroundings.
If you are stressed with time and can only do one thing in Victoria, Great Ocean Road is the must-do.
I love being a Victorian! It’s the most beautiful scenic stretch of road that curves and bends its way around our gorgeous coast! Who wouldn’t pack up their car for the weekend and turn their back on the city when the great ocean road has so much to offer!
Firstly, it is simply a brilliant drive. After that the scenery is spectacular, but so often contrasting - picture postard blue ocean and sky, to frightening, storm-ravaged with spray from the breakers pouring over the cliff tops.
To drive along the Great Ocean Road is the road trip in the world! No where else in the world will you find a road that is as well made and maintained with views that are as unspoilt as that one! Stopping off at the different towns along the way (particularly Lorne) is also a highlight of the journey
Great Ocean Road encapsulates the Australian Way with the surf sun and sand
Everyday I drive this road to work and every day I marvel the beauty and changing scenery. No other road trip allows you to be so completely encaptured by what nature has on display.
Unbelievable coast line plus incredible inland towns like Camperdown
Some reasons to drive the Great Ocean Road: sea air, spectacular scenery, good food and accomodation, lots of things to do in the surrounding area. A must see when hosting visitors from interstate and overseas.
The Great Ocean Road is a magnificent coast line experience. Drive slowly and visit all the viewing areas until you reach Port Campbell, stay overnight and return the next day to visit those sites you missed or re-visit the popular views.
Take the camera and enjoy the experience again and again. Truly one of the best areas I have ever seen.
I voted for this because of the Great Ocean Roads natural beauty. No matter how many times you travel the road, you can never get enough of it.
We spent the best week meandering down this fabulous coastline in January - the rugged cliffs, spectacular views and forests were amazing. Our highlights were walking thru the rainforest, taking the long walk up to Teddys lookout, the awesome Apostles and enjoying a sunset beverage at the Wye River pub. We wish we’d had more time but it just means we will have to go back again!
Breathtaking and awesome views unsurpassed by anything else I have seen in my world travels. Fascinating townships along the way.
The Great Ocean Road has many beautiful places to see but my favourite are Marriners Lookout, Maits Rest, the Glow worms near Apollo Bay,Loch Ard Gorge, Cape Otway Lighthouse with its magnificent views. Inland a little the Stevenson Falls and camping ground are just so peaceful and beautiful, also Triplet, Hopetoun and Beauchamp Falls are very worthwhile visiting. Every trip has been enjoyed down there over the past 30 years.
Driving down the great ocean road is not to be missed. Stop in Lorne. Stay at La Perouse B&B, dine at Ba Ba Lu BAR and walk to the pier. You will feel refreshed and ready to join the human race again…
The Great Ocean Road is a breathtaking experience and should be explored. My favourite place is Port Campbell and the 12 Apostles. These icons of nature are slowly weathering away but leaves one in awe of natures capabilities. I can sit for hours and watch the majestic sea wash into the rock faces and sculpt the coastline. Its a absolute must for tourist to explore this fantastic coastline, great towns to visit along the way, relaxing and enjoying nature at its very best.
The Great Ocean Road really is the most spectacular drive you can experience. Stunning views, rugged coastline and fresh, crisp air - what more could you want!
great road and great views of our beautiful ocean
At every turn you are embraced with a kaleidoscope of colour and scenery so captivating you are sitting on the edge of your seat not wanting to miss a single picture along the Great Ocean Road.
Nature, adventure, peace and quiet.
Surf and forest.
Beaches and Towns
There to be enjoyed.
ahhhhhh………… hows the serenity!
The great ocean road scenic drive is the best coatsline I have ever seen.
Breathtaking views, and sections of the Otways forest give a combination of ocean and forest views to rival any where in the world. Rugged cliff walls along the drive make you feel like you are really hugging the edge of the cliff. A true thrill.
Great place to drive your convertible with the top down!
Great Ocean Road has something to suit everyone. The scenic drive is beautiful and great to enjoy for everyone and the boys generally love the windy drive through it. At the end of either side of the Great Ocean Road, there’s plenty of things to amuse and entertain, heaps of places to dine, lovely beaches to relax by. It’s the place for tourist and locals to enjoy.
I have seen it change from a “Surfies Road” to one the great trourist “must dos” when in Victoria. You feel like you are almost driving on the ocean (surfing in a car!) and the roadside lookouts provide a safe opportunity for the driver to also enjoy the vistas. It is a road that must be travelled in all seasons to appreciate the magnitude of the job done by it’s constructors.
I love the great ocean road because it has sun, surf, wineries, mountins and bushland - It has Everything that a holiday should have. All the towns are all different. IT IS BEAUTIFUL
The coastline is unique & enables us all to appreciate what Victoria has to offer.
I used to do this drive 3 or 4 times a year. I have lived in Qld for 11 years now and miss that part of Victoria enormousy. I regularly stayed at Torquay and Lorne and as a teenager and into my 20’s always went to Bells Beach. I recently had family over to Australia from the UK and this was the first place I suggested they go as I knew they’d love it - which indeed they did. When I go back to Victoria I always try to get over to the Great Ocean Road as, I do believe, it’s in my blood.
The Great Ocean Road is THE MOST SPECTACULAR and SENIC drive in the world!
If you are driving the great ocean road try to be a passenger so that you dont miss any of the spectacular views
I voted for the Great Ocean Road drive as on a beautiful summer day there is so much to stop and look at. The Views are spectacular and there is nothing like the sea breeze .
As far as coastlines world wide this is one of the most beautiful drives. Easy to drive, great views both directions and lots to see along the way. A must see.
To stress release just looking at the world-famous Twelve Apostles followed by a walk in the Otways rainforest does it every time.
This would have to be among the best scenic drives to undertake in the world. Great beautiful places to stop off to unwind , enjoy and relax with a night or few nights stay. Fantastic walks to undertake with breathtaking scenery.
Fresh delicious food and wine to choose from with great dining experiences.
Would recommend to anyone.
A truly life changing experience. The view is stunning and rivals any views from the Italian coast.. A must see for any visitor.
I travel the superb Great Ocean Road at least 6 times a year and each and every time is like a magical experience. I am always in awe of its’ raw beauty!!! Magnificent!!
What a privilege we have to live in this wonderous country- so many wonderful and beautiful places to explore and experience. Top of the list would have to be time spent along the Great Ocean Road. No matter your mobility level, your statis of senses, or your language, there is something to bring delight to them all.
If you have not had this sensual pleasure, then do yourself an extremely great service and make this a must do on your list of to do’s.
We have travelled overseas, but feel blessed to be able to come back time and again to such a wonderous area. It seems the businesses and the folk of this stretch of country recognise their responsibility to each of us and engender what this area of our country is all about - breathtaking scenery, first hand experiences with Australian wildlife, flora and fauna, and not least the people that nurture and care for this spectacular region.
It’s worth everything to experience this place- it brings a realisation of what is important in one’s life-experiencing something that we as individuals had no part in preparing. Our utmost thanks should go to those that laboured long to bring us contact with this award winning experience. Enjoy your time in such a place.
Takes your breath away, the view, ocean, clean fresh air, windy roads
its the only place i would drive for two-three hours for a day trip just for a drive.
Staying at apollo bay within meters of the beach and only a few k’s back to the Great ocean Road.
Truely a must do for anyone.
Before relocating to Victoria from WA, I had heard so much about Bells Beach and watched most of the earlier surf movies showing Bells with 30 foot waves so, one week after arriving in Victoria, I drove to Bells! No 30 foot waves (unfortunately), but I fell in love with the coastline. Given that the South West of WA coastline is a beauty to behold it says a lot about the Great Ocean Road coastline! I guess the beauty isn’t just in the powerful rolling ocean, the small bays, rocks and the scenic, winding road, the Ottways on the other side of the road add a richness lacking in most coastal terraines and add something extra and special to the drive along The Great Ocean Road. Fabulous and unobtrusive coffee shops and art galleries along the way also make for a very pleasant day’s drive or weekend away.
The Great Ocean road is a spectacular drive and one that every interstate and overseas visitor should not miss!
breath taking!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just love Great Ocean Road.
Its a beautiful scenery to cruse on it. friendly, nice people living there, nice shops.
The beaches are fantastic, very relaxing atmosphier.
My personal experience was, ones I was on Great Ocean Road, just didn’t want to come back, made me very relaxed and very peacfull. I LOVE IT AND I WOULD TAKE A DRIVE ANY TIME to experience the same feelings. best in victoria
The great ocan road combines beauty and rugged terraine. Its relaxing on the eye, when driving down(preferably with the roof down, you somehow feel free, breathing in that fresh sea air.
I deffinately believe its one of the greatest ocean drive in the world
Whether its winter or summer, this drive is always a pleasure. In summer, it’s great to stop at different beaches to have a swim to cool down…. in winter it’s great to stop in different places to warm up with a hot chocolate whilst watching the wild waves crashing on the beach. Locals are always friendly, lots to do, lots to see… a photographers dream.
Beautiful coastline and nice beaches
i voted for this because views like this you can not buy and riding this on a motorbike just blew me away
A picturesque and breath taking drive which changes with the seasons. It has many spots to stop along the way to take in other sights and local attractions. It’s a great day trip or you can make an extended weekend of it - the choice is yours.
The Great Ocean Road is a wonderful drive or motorbike ride.
great drive for anyone, and you’ll never get bored from the view. plenty of history & pleasant stops along the way to take a break or rest up for the next stage. not to be missed!
Motorbike ride down the Great Ocean road
Take a ride on a motorbike down the Great Ocean Road. It’s so much better on a bike.
It was the most beautiful scenery ever to drive on it. Great beach, nice people and beautifull food. What more do you want!!!!!!!
It combines the Aussie love affair with their cars, spectacular scenery and great Aussie costal towns along the way .
The great Ocean Road drive means many things to me.
It is the first place I think of to take visiting friends who are tourists if they have a day to spare. It has never let me down in impressing them. I’ve pointed out whales, koalas, the apostles (that haven’t been twelve for some time!) I’ve sat on the Apollo Bay foreshore and watched 12 big red ducati motorbikes pull out of the service station, I’ve camped in Marengo as a teenager, Ive stayed in numerous cabins as an adult, Ive told stories about how many convicts died building it! (so many times I’m not even sure if they’re true anymore.) I’m a ‘city kid’ , so everytime I drive under the big wooden sign across the road that tells me I’ve made it to the “GREAT OCEAN ROAD” I still have to throw my arms in the air and go “wooooohhoooo”. Even now as a ‘grown up’.
Love all of the Ocean Road. Very relaxing and a beautiful part our Country
It was the most beautiful drive with amazing scenaries. You will not get bored as its full of natural beauty.
The Great Ocean Road is one of the best trips to take in Victoria as it can be travelled at your own pace (eg stop off and stay along the way) and the scenery is amazing along this rugged coastline.
It is such a beautiful Drive and the beaches are fantastic.. there needs to be somemore information about beachs and places to eat if you going for a drive down there…
But all in all its just beautiful!
the drive along the road is breath taking.
Every year I send several international students to see the spectacular coastline. They all report back with great enthusiasm and eager anticipation of the next experience.
A sparkling experience of shining sea and mountain vistas.
The great ocean road is one of the most beautiful road trips to take, particularly if you take some time out to stop off for a night or two in some of the gorgeous little coastal towns and villages along the way from where you get on near Geelong all the way to Port Fairy. Beautiful Lorne with wonderful accommodation, restaurants, boutique shops and beach scenery, quaint and relaxed Apollo Bay with amazing sunsets, good eateries and coffee, where you can also head inland and take in the breathtaking sights of the Otway Ranges, including the famous “Otway Fly’ and views across the spectacular mountain ranges and cliffs to the rolling ocean, then on to Port Campbell to view nature’s masterpiece of the ‘12 Apostles’
and to Port Fairy for a wander along it’s beautiful boat harbour or a stay in one of its many historic B&B’s. Mix it up with beach and bush walks, waterfalls, good food in a variety of restaurants, pubs & cafes and relax at sunset with a drink while watching the sky change through amazing hues of orange and red as though an artist has just swept his paintbrush across the horizon. Its a memorable experience and even if you can’t take a few days to stop off, a day’s drive along the coast and back will not leave you disappointed. One of my favourite getaways.
Great leisurely drive along the Great Ocean Road. Lots of places to stop and eat. Lots of things to do and see. Great, fun day for the whole family. Much more enjoyable in a car that can handle the sweeping bends and windy road. Great day out.
When I think of the perfect Victorian getaway I automatically think of the Great Ocean Road. Whenever we have visitors staying with us whether they come from interstate or from overseas, it’s the first destination we take them to.
The Great Ocean Rd allows you to experience the beauty of Victoria while travelling by the sea as well as the culture of our state by staying at Lorne, Apollo Bay or Warrnambool just to mention a few.
beautiful scenic drive! hard to be anywhere in the Country (that I know of!)
the great ocean rd is a great drive and one of my favourite things to do, victoria needs more tourism info for people coming from overseas and interstate.
It has the most amazing scenery and great towns and shops along the way.
This is the best experience as you get to view the beautiful coast line and small towns, yet unchanged by big tourism. You can also step back in time and imagine what our forefathers went through sailing the dangerous coast.
I just love the Great Ocean Road. Driving this road brings a feeling of tranquility and peace. Every corner gives a view of natures splendour and then on the next corner another view even better. I love stopping in the small towns on the way to look around and enjoy the calm. Taking photos and shopping. Have stayed at The Lorne Hotel on several times and enjoyed the experience. So much to do, or not, if that takes your fancy. I love it in the Winter and The Summer. A great place for walks or sitting by the fire with a nice wine. I find the people super friendly and helpful. I JUST LOVE IT. I have and will keep coming back to the Great Ocean road.
It would have to be the most picturesque drive in the world, even when compared to the drive along the French Rivieria, past Monaco. It is the gateway to some of the most pristine beaches, not to mention some of the most beautiful coastal towns imaginable - nothing better!
We have lots of overseas visitors and we always take them along Great Ocean road to the Apostles. We make various stops along the way and whatever the weather conditions it is always an awesome trip. We stay overnight then drive back through the Ottways. This one night 2 day trip is like a week long escape and needless to say whoever we take along the road is awestruck for life.
The Great Ocean Road shows us stark beauty and the fercocity that gives it the name the Shipwreck Coast. To its sandy beaches such as Apollo Bay to its rocky coast it is a great place to unwind and enjoy one of the best Victoria has to offer.
The Great Ocean Road would have to be the worlds 8th natural wonder. The scenic drive covers both land and sea views.
The Appostles are a sight that needs to be seen by all Victorian’s to take in the beauty of mother nature.
The wild life from koala’s to whales is a must see experince. The towns along the way are inviting and cosmopolitan.
Absolutely gorgeous! One delight after another.
The magnificence of the landscape is overwhelming. To think the ocean has carved the beautiflul cliff faces we saw is almost unbeleivable. We really enjoyes the Otway Fly Walk as well. Sometimes a day or two like this put everything back in perspective and we re-assess our lives.
This journey invites you to explore where the power of the southern ocean greets the rugged escarpment and ancient rock formation. Momentarily you are welcomed to the many small and larger hamlets that are perched along the journey to allow you to rest from your drive and enjoy the local hospitality and cuisine before further journeying to explore the awe inspiring views.
Just to take in the amazing views along the coastline and across the ocean at different times of the day or even different weather, is really special. There are also some beautiful points of interest in the Great Otway National Park which are easily accessible, unique and not to be missed…a real natural wonderland.
Starting at Torquay the Great Ocean Road is full of things to do and see along the stretch of road that goes all the way down to the twelve apostles.
Waterfalls, wildlife, walks and of course the twelve apostles.
The Great Ocean Road also provides great restaurants and cosmopolitan cafes to stop at and enjoy along the way.
I voted for the Great Ocean road because no matter how many times you travel it there is something different to see. The ocean and our coastline is constantly changing. Sometimes the wind is up, the waves are white caps the water almost grey, other times the sun is out and the sea is like glass with the rugged coastal features reflected in the water. Always amazing and the coastal towns have their own kind of culture; little shops with an array of knick knacks and great food. There are some really great spots to stop for picnics too.
Feels so free to drive through that coastal and hinterland part of Victoria. Everywhere you look is picture perfect and there is so many places to stop and lunch or stay.
Internationally recognised “icon” attraction (goes without saying). Fantastic ocean views and drive. The hinterland must not be forgotten, with magnificent forests and waterfalls.
The Great Ocean Road epitomises Victoria. Its’ diverse scenery from the breaking ocean waves against cliff edges to rolling farmlandsand small coastal villages to larger towns and cities make it the best drive in Australia.
It is just the most breathtaking and exhilarating experience. Some of those views show just how magical and splendid our state is.
For the past 11years I’ve stayed in Australia, the trip to or through Great Ocean Road has never failed to take my breath away again and again. You will keep finding the spots you have never been before and everytime you turn to the first water view, my heart will beat so fast because of excitement, eventhough it was my fourth trip in a year
This is the only place that will keep me going until I can’t walk anymore.
Each time we get visitors to our region, we never fail to take them for a drive along the Great Ocean Road. Such a beautiful drive on our doorstep. You have the coast on one side and lush green forest on the other with some stunning waterfalls and scenic walks.
The view of the coast is so beautiful. It would be a huge crime to see this coast line spoilt beacuse of pollution or worse commercialism. Keep it as it is.
I LOVE the Great Ocean Road, and even hired a convertible Saab to drive it once. I love the idea of the blue ocean vast and fresh on one side and the mountains and countryside on the other. I have horse riden in the Otways, hang glided over New Haven, and stayed in a stilt house at Wye River just to mention a few things.
Vanessa van Buuren
The scenery around each bend in the road is spectacular especially on a fine day.
A fantastic way to spend a winters weekend especially cuddled up in an exclusive resort at Lorne such as Chatby Lane.
The great ocean road is one of the most beautiful drives that I have driven, and it does not require death defying driving to navigation to be able you to enjoy a great scenic drive. if you enjoy bush driving drive down the ocean road and then head inland from Apolla Bay and drive back on the inland road through Forrest and Beech Forrest to complete a great driving experience
It was a great trip with beautiful stops along the way, would recommend it to anyone.
This has to be one of the best drives in the world. Spectacular ocean views combined with lush green countryside, plus lovely little towns. What more could you want.
wonderful senic drive with lots of history along the way.
Because i am passionate about the Great Ocean Road and the region surrounding it. I love discovering new peices of it every time i visit. There is always something exciting to do!
A great drive. beautifull scenery
The Great Ocean Road is one of the best scenic coastal drives around the world, rivalling the Italian Riviera or the Californian Big Sur
A visually stimulating drive with plenty of interesting stops along the way. One must not overlook the non ocean issues such as the koalas around Wye River or “The Fly” at the Otways. Multiple food, coffee and comfort stops along the way, with the option of return to Melbourne by other routes, or prolonged at further locations. I just wish it were a little closer to Melbourne.
My experience is that tourists I take spend the whole trip sleeping, and I’m risking my life on this road and they’re not even looking!
A drive along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most spectacular drives, up there with the Grande Corniche above Nice and the highway from Santa Barbara past Big Sur to San Francisco.
Knowing the history of its construction in the 30s adds a fascination as you negotiate some of the hairpin bends, look down at the cliffs below, and across to the vista of glorious ocean. Teddy’s Lookout at Lorne, the Otway Fly at Forrest, and the 12 Apostles at Port Campbell, (preferably at sunset) together with stops to see the koalas and the occasional echidna crossing the road, combine to make a really memorable experience.
A simple way to enjoy some of the best scenery that Victoria (and Australia!) has to offer
HI to you ,
As a young man in the early years of the great ocean road i worked at a sawmill in kennett river1960 –1980 and lived in lorne travelling daily to and from lorne ..
Between there are many experiences that i went through and took in during this time. The windy point three kms from lorne was an experience that not a lot is known about when the road was sinking into the ocean at a rate of 10 -15 cmtrs a day. The CRB engaged a engineer from overseas to advise a solution to this. It was solved by moving up the mountain side and drilling 100mms holes down into the sub base rock and installing huge wire rope stitching into the cliffs the road was closed for quite sometime. Another time i can recall when the hitchcock creek breached the road and a section of road 100mtrs in length went out to sea in about 15 minutes.
I live at the end of the GOR in Warrnambool and I never tire of enjoying a drive with so many magnificent views.
The very scenic drive is comparable, and up there with anything else in the world.
My younger brother and I took our first road trip together driving from Melbourne to Warrnambool along the Great Ocean Road. We loved the spectacular views over the ocean, the incredible coastline and the beautiful National Park. We expected at every turn to see a dinosaur walk out of the trees - it was so pristine. We loved the Rainforest Walk in Cape Otway National Park and Apollo Bay was the perfect place to stop for the night.
A road with enough turns to keep you awake, a road with enough gradients to enable yu to perfect gear changes, a road with magnificent views of both land and sea, friendly helpful people and towns very pleasant and comfortable to stay at.
the great ocean road should be classed as one of the wonders of the world.. it is spectacular…… it is a drive every australian should do at least once in their life.
The views are spectacular and the drive is a lovely stroll along some of the countrys best coast line. Plenty to stop and enjoy on the trip
Fantastic scenery, rolling green hills, windswept beaches make this road a must do for every visitor to our shores and for Australian residents alike. It still takes my breath away eery time I visit, even though I once lived in the Western District. Sensible, eco friendly building restrictions means the are is retained in its unspoilt state for future generations to enjoy!
The Great Ocean road is an icon of Victoria and a must see place for visitors because of its beauty, serenity and the wonderful sights.
It is world famous - a visitor from Pakistan had this on top of his list. We flew over it in a helicopter and he still raves about the beauty of the Twelve Apostles.
The stay overnight at Seafarers was awesome.
Although it is a reasonable drive it is worth every moment to see the beauty of the remaining Apostles and bays. In addition you drive through quaint surf coast towns. Good accomodation is available and great shopping especially in Torquay with the outlets.
Where else could you drive and see so much. Everytime we ‘get on the road’ its a minimum whole week to get to Portland and back. We stay at different venues each time and its nothing to only travel upto 20 ks in a day with stops to walk along never ending bush tracks to find waterfalls, bush, surf beaches. Our favourite time of year is winter when in our view nature is at its best with full surf, waterways AND waterfalls. Cold naaaaah, when was the last time you stood on a beach in a storm with the wind and tide blowing you over and trying to pour the thermos??? God I love this country.
I love it so much I shifted to Lorne permanently so that I could enjoy the great ocean road coastal views as well as the beautiful inland scenery . It does not matter whether its spring summer autum or winter its just the best.
With a rainforest background
The beach at your side
Great choices to eat and stay
Come along for the ride!
The Great Ocean Road is a Victorian heritage icon due to its construction by gangs of unemployed men during the Depression years following WW1. That its construction has stood the test of time is testament to their workmanship. The little rock falls every now and again add to its air of excitement. The constant twists and turns, clifftop views and almost touching the foamy waves as the road climbs and drops provides an amazing experience for both locals and overseas visitors. No matter how many times I travel the road, I never tire of the constantly changing scenery. The battering the coast takes is ably demonstrated by the disappearance of many of the Twelve Apostles and the breaking up of London Bridge.
The scenery changes each time you drive along the Great Ocean Road - always beautiful, always different. A new adventure every time.
Every interstate and overseas visitor that stays with us wants to go there. The coastal drive is very spectacular. The rock formations & views take my breath away every time!
This is truly one of the most breath taking and awe-inspiring scencic drives I have travelled. Meandering south, as you peer east out the window, sweeping views of Bass Straight and the Southern Ocean can be seen, brilliant and blue with the magnificant rock stacks of the Twelve Apostles jotted out over the sea blanket - truly a sight to see once the sun starts to set! To the west, the Otway National Park is a thriving wonderland of waterfalls and lush dense rainforests which cannot be missed - especially the Otway Tree Top Walk which you have to visit if you would like some stunning views of the Parks tree top canopy.
A trip to the Great Ocean Road is not complete without taking the time to surf one of Australia’s best breaks - Bells Beach! - For the best surfing, I would reccommend going in Autumn/Winter where you can find some brilliant right-handers at both the bowl and rincon breaks. A wetsuit is a must!
Warning!!! Driving along this route may cause extreme happiness and pleasure.
The most beautiful (and wildest) country in Victoria is around Johanna.
So many beautiful things to see along the way, from beachside towns, to hidden beaches.
Plenty of good food to stop for too.
The Great Ocean Road is stunningly beautiful. Perfect for a family Sunday drive to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. If you are more adventerous you can always try the Harley motorcycle tour down The Great Ocean Road!
Every time I travel on the Great Ocean Road I gasp at the beautiful views. Every bend has another fantastic vista. It always takes my breath away.
A road that is a historical part of Victoria, should be visited for its spectacular views and scenery. Change drivers about half way so everyone can enjoy the experience.
When God wants to take a holiday he travels The Great Ocean Road. It’s just Heaven On Earth with its spectacular coastline, beautiful beaches, rainforests and much more, but what can l say, go see it to believe it.
Some of the best scenery you could ever see. No matter what time of the year the views are spectacular. Take time to look and appreciate you won’t be dissapointed.
I haven’t travelled the Great Ocean Road for many years until recently and I was not disappointed…I loved every minute and we made many stops to look at the ocean scenery..it never fails to amaze me and will certainly be going that way again soon.
Some of the best scenery and accomodation I have experienced.
Always changing and a great drive.
I didn’t appreciate what a road this was, I used to live on its door step, and would drive along it every so often, and back for something to do. I have also driven the length each way a few times as well. Looking at the scenery but not really seeing.
Take the time to see.
Striking contrasts between white sandy beaches and sheer cliffs in the matter of a breath or two, nothing to see but native bush, and the rugged beauty, not to mention the endless opportunities for some relaxing whilst holding a fishing rod.
Something for everyone.
Now I have moved to another country, and nothing here in NZ compares, some nice coastal roads, but not close the scenic wonders of this amazing roadway.
Always think of the Ocean Road whilst driving the Corromandel Peninsula, but it just not the same. If you are reading this and have been on both roads, you will know what i mean.
Cycling between Apollo Bay and Lorne is a complete world of its own. Little traffic. I ride to the left of the white line at the edge of the carriageway on my own bike lane. The ride on road bike or a mountain bike transports me into heaven. I cannot thank its builders enough.
I grew up by the sea on another continent and I have always felt a spiritual connection to the sea. When I drive the Great Ocean Road I feel like I don’t have a care in the world. I feel free and I don’t want the journey to end.
The most beautiful place on earth where the rainforest reaches the ocean relaxing, quiet and refreshing a place that you can really relax in and admire the views what more could you want it is so clean we just love the great ocean road area - so much that we are going to live there one day - has everything we need
Bring it on
I was born and breed in Apollo Bay, now i live in Croydon, in Melbourne.
I still get excited, everytime i see the first sign of that beautiful coast line,
weaving my way into skeenes creek. Then that 5km drive into town, is
so relaxing. I have travelled to alot of beaches in Australia, but none are as
georgous, and so beautiful as the beaches at HOME!
As an inbound tourguide, I must have travelled that road at least 150 times. My pax always join my enthusiasm as they see its natural beauty, the variety, the hidden pockets with the wildlife, and the little towns along the way. Thr French boast about their similar coastline at “Etretat” , the Americans about their Hwy 1 and the Portuguese about their Algarve coast but ours truly is SIMPLY THE BEST!
Fabulous views, great beaches and plenty of outdoor activities-walking, swimming, hiking in the bush, surfing, horseriding, dining, shopping. This is a great area to take your international vistors to show of our country. Pam Taylor.
My favourite place in the whole world, driving, stopping at wonderful view points along the way, walking the different walks, Teddy’s Lookout, the best photography in the World or should I say Universe! The Twelve Apostles, at anytime of the day and season, they still take my breath away, a very uplifting place, and if you stay around long enough at dusk, look down on the sand to see hundred’s of tiny fairy penguins coming ashore.

A spectacular scenic driving experience, one never to be forgotten.
Having grown up in the area, it is only when I visit other places that I realise the true beauty of the area, and how lucky I am to drive along the Great Ocean Road and witness natures true beauty. Amazing veiws, no two days the same, it’s amazing.
The drive along this road is an awesome experience, the trip should finally tie at sun-set with the viewing of the 12 (8) Apostales.
Nothing beats that!
The most spectacular scenic area you could experience. Really makes you feel proud of our beautiful country. I am lucky enough to have seen a lot of Australia and other countries of the world, but our Great Ocean Road is up there with the best…..and although a local, never take it for granted. Spectacular!
The Great Ocean Road is famous around the world for it’s beauty, and this makes it a must see for any person living in Australia. The personalities of the coastal towns along the way change with each kilometer, culminating (It hink) in the most picturesque town in Victoria-Apollo Bay. There are activities to do all along the way, or you can simply enjoy the splendour of the view from the road. It can take a day, or ten days and you can learn about Australia’s history along the way or about the Science of Geology-it’s got something for everyone!
Walked along the Sufcoast walk from Torquay to Moggs Beach. Fabulous flora and views.
Beautiful coastline.
Fabulous beaches and striking coastline.
It is an exhilarating area and coastline
Have walked part of the fantastic Surfcoast Walk. The views along the coast fabulous.
Because of historical significance. Diggers worked on it and look at the result, the most scenic drive in Australia!

A magnificent scenic drive and a great memorial to the returned soldiers who built it, using pick and shovel.
No where in the world can you witness such magnificent scenery. Raw, natural and simply spectacular.
Gorgeous scenery and you must see the 12 Apostles before they are gone. A piece of Victoria that is spectacular
The amazing views of the ocean the lovley cities and the vileges the information spots that giving
you a wonderful service .
The amazing national park of port campbel (12 apostels)
etc.
Make sure you give yourself time to see Warrnambool on the Great Ocean Road. We use it all the time as a base to explore and see the wild sea.
Try and be the passenger and NOT the driver in the car because it’s hard to drag your eyes away from the majestic power of the ocean. The Ocean Road has the views, the cute townships and homes, the surf, the galleries and shops, all to seduce your soul into a state of calm and serenity. Do it soon and do it often.
Tour on great ocean road as passengers on a BMW motorcycle with Vicmoto Motorcycle Tours. All clothing and helmets are provided and you can all speak to each other with built in communications. Very comfy bikes and clothing, great service and good value for money. They do tours to lots of other places too and we’ve used them twice.
Simply because this is the most beautiful and relaxing scenic route I have ever experienced in my life. The coast line was clean and tidy. More importantly the waves were spectacular.
Scenery which takes the breath away and a great driving expeerience
The Great Ocean Road has it all. A continuous spectacular view whilst driving from Anglesea to Apollo Bay, with countless oportunities to stop for secluded walks along the beach. Scenic walks to waterfalls accessable from the road. Cafes, eateries etc in the little hamlets along the way….. I could go on forever! The experience changes every day.
We spent a week in Peterborough and drove up and down the Great Ocean Road. It is fantastic to see all the natural creations. Peterborough is a quiet lovely place to stay within minutes from all the attractions.
The Spectacular Great Ocean Road has it all, swerves and curves, swirls and thrills with oceans of endless wild surf coast scenery. I have been travelling this road several times each year since I arrived in this country from my native Canada. I bring all of my oveseas visitors to enjoy her raw beauty. I have holidayed in the Lorne Caravan parks and many of the surrounding small towns with my 6 children. I scattered my first husbands ashes at the 12 Apostles. I have driven, sat as a pillion and now I also enjoy riding my own motorbike, it truely is about the journey and not the destination.
I have had wonderful experiences driving along the Great Ocean Road and also riding as a pillion on our motorbike. I remember heading off on Christmas holidays when I was a child (many years ago) and I was so excited and amazed at the views, the ocean and staying at caravan parks along the way. As an adult , my partner and I went on a holiday along the Great Ocean Road heading towards Adelaide. We saw our wonderful coastline when it was calm and romantic, and when it was angry and wild. We have travelled many kilometres around our wonderful country but that part of our world we keep going back to.
The great ocean road is one of the most scenic drives along Australia’s rugged coastline! There is something for everyone: surfing, koalas, kangaroos, kookaburras, eucalypts, lighthouses, shipwrecks, restaurants, fishing, Lorne, bushwalking, shops, luxury B&Bs to name a few The drive is spectacular in all seasons.
great ocean road is by far one of the best scenic driving routes of victoria >It has everything to offer. It is a relaxing, picturesque, scenic tourist drive for me.
A relaxing and enjoyable way to speng a weekend driving.
Great Ocean scenery while driving along one of the world’s few practical war memorials
I go along the ocean road at least once every 3 months and I feel better than I have in my life.
