I cannot believe that this captivating piece of Melbourne history is so far down the list. Much of Melbourne must know about it because it is often hard to get a table. Its like stepping back in time. Squint your eyes and you can see the ladies in their crinolines and gents in their straw boaters on a sunny summer or winter day. Great food and welcoming staff. All of my overseas visitors (and interstate too) get taken here. And non have left disappointed. The essence of what Melbourne is about is to be found here.

I just love Fairfield Park boathouse- the environment is breathtaking and I can spend hours there in the most beautiful, peaceful surroundings such as beautiful trees, plants, wildlife and river as well as the fantastic ampitheatre where I attend whenever there is a concert on or a movie being screened. I have over the years recommended and taken many family, friends and overseas visitors to this most amazing place to enjoy too. No one should be deprived of the beauty of this open space - I believe it should be advertised more so that the public get to experience its uniqueness. I have lived in the City of Yarra for over 30 years but only discovered it by accident about 20 years ago. Great for long walks and picnics too. Definitely a must to see for young and old!

Tucked away only a short distance from Melbourne’s CBD, set amongst majestic gumtrees and Yarra River - picturesque, quaint, relaxing. Great any time of the day and any time of the year !

Yummy lunch, ducks, and the Yarra flowing past. A perfect Winter’s Sunday

On a sunny day this is the best spot in Melbourne. Having lunch overlooking the Yarra or trying your rowing prowess in the old wooden boats - fabulous. It’s only metres from busy Heidelberg Rd but feels like you’re out in the country.
