Quite possibly one of the warmest, and haunting places I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit.

Hanging Rock takes you away to a place of relaxation and stunning views…Leave your “rat race” world behind and come and see the most amazing views of the surrounding Macedon Ranges district. There is enough to do that your whole day will be filled with adventure, and you will leave feeling quite exhausted however very content.

What a magical place to spend some quiet time within a short trip from Melbourne. Take a friend or go on your own…nothing too strenuous and a way to relax and enjoy the environment….dont forget to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy while you take in that view…those sounds and the pungent aroma of the bush…

On the recent school holidays we took our 2 children on a day trip to Hanging Rock. The children absolutely loved exploring the Rock and surrounding grounds. It is only ten dollars a car for entrance a price hard to be for a family of four outing. After exploring we decided to lunch in the cafe. So glad we did this place is a hidden gem the quality of the food and prices was fantastic. Planning to re visit in the warmer months to sit on the deck overlooking the park lands and work through their entire menu.

What a great place to let the kids run around the picnic areas and then take a stroll as a family up the rock and enjoy the panoramic views.

After reading the book and seeing the movie I definately had to visit this place, It was beautiful and mysterious and the same time. A nice fairly easy climb around the rock to get the blood pumping. Then had a nice relaxing visit to the winery.

What a wonderful day trip from melbourne! Have visited many times and enjoyed the reserve, rock and the really good food available in the cafe(cheaper and friendlier than most places ).

A wonderful location within easy reach from the city, and surrounded by beautiful wineries and great local fare. A great place for a day trip or overnight in a B&B. Or try one of the annual events such as the races - always fun. Easy access to great local towns such as Woodend for a meal before heading home.

Add to description - great walk up and/or around this amazing natural landmark, excellent views out over surrounding idyllic countryside, an example of geomorphology which would make a great teaching aid for school groups.

Hanging Rock with it’s beautiful views and Hanging Rock Winery with its outstanding Heathcote Shiraz is a must for all visitors to the Macedon Ranges. Visit in February when the Annual Picnic At Hanging Rock Car Show is on, it’s a day not to miss!

One of the most picturesque places to visit in the fabulous Macedon Ranges, Hanging Rock and the nearby Hanging Rock Winery are well worth a visit.

Incredible formation with quite a mystical and strange energy. Great to be able to climb all around it, in and out of the winding nooks and crannies. Beautiful views all around the rock and lovely just to sit up high and look. The book certainly picks up and probably helps create the enchanting mood of the place. It is also close to Melbourne and very accessible.

So much history and I remember a tasty cellar door close by. The climb was good fun and made the movie a little more relevant. On the way back we spotted a koala which was nice!

The setting reminds you of the movie of the same name. Taking a walk up to the top you are reminded of how easy it is to get lost. Overall, the scenary and wildlife are the perfect environment for a family picnic. A must do day out.

My brother and his wife came from Canada in 1993 for a short visit. We hired a copy of ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ and viewed it with my two young daughters. The next day we headed out to the rock, bought some picnic supplies and had a lovely lunch in the picnic area. We then scoured the rock trying to find the remains of the lovely Miranda and the other girls. We got very excited when we found the spot where they actually disappeared! Then it was off to play ‘Sardines’ for an hour and then back home, tired but content. My brother and his wife said it had been more fun than all the time and money they had spent at Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef!
When my wife and I went back to Canada last year, it was the first time I had been back since my brother’s visit. The first thing my sister in law said to me was one of the more famous quotes in the film concerning Miranda: “A face like a Botticelli angel”. How’s that for memorable!

What a better day than to drive through Mt Macedon township and Cross then down to Hanging rock before lunch. Climb the Rocks with a picnic lunch and enjoy the view from a safe perch on a clear sunny day.

Hanging Rock Winery. The winery is the largest winery in the Macedon Ranges, with the largest slection. The homley cellar door looks over the vineyard, Hanging Rock and the Macedon Ranges. Try the sparkling wine ‘Macedon’ which has been rated one of Australias best
