North East Victoria is steeped in history from the gold rush era with a past linked closely to the Ned Kelly gang. Uncover times gone by with a visit to the beautifully preserved towns of Beechworth, Bright and Glenrowan.

N.E. Victoria has activities for all tastes and all seasons. Basing yourself at Myrtleford provides a huge variety of locations close at hand. These include the King Valley, Bright (magnificent in autumn), Beechworth, Rutherglen, Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham (a great snow field), Milawa, Yackandandah, a bike trail and others.

Crisp nights, sunny days, drive the scenic country roads, visit Mt Buffalo to view the snowpeaked mountains across the valley, climb the Monolith, take the Snow Road and visit the Milawa Cheese Factory, have a picnic or eat at any number of delicious venues, stay a night or drive home on the freeway.

Woolshed Falls are water falls which from 1853 became a profitable place due to the discovery of gold and later tin. Woolshed Falls are 5 kms from Beechworth towards Wodonga or Chiltern. Veer left at the Chiltern turnoff and again turn left into McFeeter’s Road. Woolshed Falls are over the bridge and to the right.

Glenrowan was spooky especially now as relics are again being discovered from the famous hotel siege.

The Gold Rush history is so interesting, inspiring & and well work visiting places like Omeo, Cassilis, Glen Wills, where the gold history is not just history it is the present, and no doubt the future. Don’t forget to take your gold pan and take some quite time in the Livingstone Creek.

I love to go metal detecting and relic hunting in the Victorian Goldfields. Anywhere in the Golden Triangle is great fun!
