Fishing, boating or just walking along the edge of Bancroft Bay on the new boardwalk, Metung is a pet friendly Village with great views and a pretty waterside road leading into the Village and down to Shaving Point. There is a great waterfront hotel and terrific restaurants for either a meal or a coffee. Great food trail and some award winning wineries nearby. It provides easy access by boat to the Ninety Mile Beach and offers plenty of different places to visit by boat if you wish to explore.

Love it so much we moved here !

My family and I have fallen in love with Metung as a weekend escape and more recently an escape for a whole week. We love walking around the boardwalk enjoying the views over Chinaman’s Creek and Bancroft Bay - we’ve even seen dolphins at close range from the boardwalk. The village feel of Metung is quite special as is the local ice cream shop, the local bakery, the friendly staff at the general store, the restaurants, the Metung pub, the boats, the views … all up a very special place to escape and unwind.

Metung is a very special Village. The atmosphere is always pleasant plenty of coffee spots, lovely restaurants, golf club, central park for BBQ (electric), playground equipment for children, and safe family beach on the shores of Lake King.
The Metung Boardwalk is an absolute joy it extends for more than 2 ks into the village and then past the village to Shaving Point. It is a walkers paradise.
Metung is situated on a peninsula that has Bancroft Bay on one side and Lake King on the other.
There are boats to hire - either as day boats or for overnight and weekly charters. There are plenty of scenic areas to go to by boat - this is a very special way to enjoy the lakes
Metung is a great central point to enjoy all of East Gippsland from Bright over the Alpine Way to Orbost
    Just come and enjoy.

I fell in love with Metung five years ago - and now I really feel more at home there than in Melbourne. More than anything else I love those exquisite Metung sunsets, when pinks, deep reds, and shades of blues and greens fill the entire sky, and time seems suspended. I also love the boardwalk, the pelicans, the familiarity of knowing the moored boats you pass, the endless cups of coffee, and the feeling that you are not really a visitor here: you become a part of the village - and it becomes an inextricable part of you.

Each time I come back to my ’second home’ I find something new to do, a different beach or bay or walk to explore, a new wine to try, someone different to meet. Metung has that enviable quality of being both a part of its spectacular environment, and the product of the people who live there.

And a part of me, selfishly, wants it to remain a secret!

If you really want to “get away” from it all, this is the place to go. All around Metung are tourist attractions wortth visiting, then retire back to the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Metung. I have never felt like I was just one of the crowd like some other holiday destinations when I stay at Metung. There is an excellent range of accomodation and as well as the pub and a number of restaurants to dine out at.

Add this to being in the middle of the Gippsland Lakes, with walking tracks, a safe lake beach for the children, close proximity to good surf beaches and fishing, and the list goes on.

    Who could ask for anymore.

Visit Metung and enjoy the village atmosphere right on the shore of the Gippsland Lakes . Go boating , fishing ,have a drink at the waterfront hotel , maybe a meal at the yacht club , play golf or just relax at Metung Waters motel and apartments in the heart of the town.
