The recently opened National Sports Museum houses Australia’s greatest showcase of sporting memorabilia and celebrates the place of sport in Australian life. Highlights include Ian Thorpe’s full body swimsuit, the first Brownlow medal, Cathy Freeman’s swift suit from the Sydney 200 Olympics’, and a collection of baggy green caps from Australia’s cricket history.

I enjoyed my visit to the National Sports Museum at the MCG, but I was disappointed by my visit to the AFL section, I could not see Billy Barrot’s athletic support anywhere, although in the Olympic section I did see Lorraine Crapp on the television.
The best part of my visit to the NSM seeing the enthusiasm of the wonderful volunteers on duty.
The Magnificent National Sports Museum at the MCG is a must for all sports fans.
From the web site to the vist: it’s all there and it’s all at the G!
This place rocks! And the tours of the G are brilliant too!
Go National Sports Museum
Sophisticated, lush, embracing and beautiful. I normally get museum fatigue after 1 hour, but I could spend all day in the National Sports Museum.
It’s more than sport, it’s our culture and who we are are and what makes us. I particularly love the Olympics gallery! It should be number one in anyones book!
I enjoy sports and love a good show for my money
I couldn’t believe just how large and impressive the National Sports Museum is. The fact that it is at the MCG just adds to the experience. My kids loved the interactive games and we could have spent hours looking at the exhibts - we’ll be going back for sure.
