This delightful open air museum, situated in Champion Road North Williamstown,is a must for anyone who is a train enthusiast.
The museum houses a rare collection of both steam and diesel locomotives from the halcyon days of the former Victorian Railways, as well as historical rolling stock.
Ironically the museum is right next door to the former Newport Railway Workshops,of which all the steam locomotives and the rolling stock were all built.

Any family with children obsessed with trains MUST visit this museum. Not only can you see a large number of trains but actually climb into them. My kids were there for hours and didn’t want to leave.
A vital part of Victoria’s industrial heritage.
Something for everyone here, expecially the children who can indulge their ‘Thomas’ fantasies and even have a birthday party in an historic carriage. Entirely staffed and maintained by enthusiastic volunteers, the music is a delight for the train buff.
What an amazing place to explore Australia’s Railway history … Fantastic
