   A wonderful town tucked away on the edge of the high country. A gateway to the Alps.

   Omeo is a little bit of a hidden gem. Cheap games of golf at Tambo Valley or Omeo golf course, good food, lots of mountain biking and trail bike riding terrain. If you are in to trout fishing or kayaking, the Mitta Mitta is 10k up the road.

   It’s an easy place to loose yourself in for a weekend.

   Visit the remains of the gold digging known as the Oriental Claims due to the leases being in that name and there were a large number of Chinese miners. The area has evidence of water races that were used to wash the cliff faces down using a hydraulic water pump.

   Omeo historically known as ‘The city of The Alps’ is the hub of many roads in Eastern Vic including the Great Alpine Road, the Omeo Hwy, the Benambra Corryong Rd & many other roads or 4WD tracks. It is close to Mt Hotham giving the best access in winter. It is central to all alpine activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, 4wheel driving, mountainbike riding. It is rich in history both gold mining & pastoral which as region was settled in 1834 the same as the first settlers into Portland. It is an ideal base to trout fish 3 of the best rivers in Australia. It is probably the best spot to enjoy bushwalking because it is close to all the Alpine walks inc the Bogong High Plains, Feathertop, the Cobberras & the Alpine walking track. While also close to Gippsland Lakes it has many attractions in & around town. It is well serviced by motels, hotel,restaurants,hospital & doctors.
