Port Fairy has everything a great tourist destination needs: beautiful scenery, charming historical buildings, walking trails, pristine beaches, gourmet food, a good variety of quality accomodation, festivals and many nearby interesting places. The Moyne River has to be the most picturesque riverport in Australia!

Port Fairy has it all. Magnificent old buildings, interesting shops, Victoria’s best beaches, superb restaurants and great local pubs - on our last visit we had a terrific night at the Star of the West, one of the best country pubs I’ve been to. Port is our favourite get away!

Port Fairy has B&B’s and eateries with open fireplaces and choices from cafe food to formal dining. The winter festival includes interesting things to do once a month, then there are the other festivals and market days in the warmer months. All places are within a short walking distance.

Visitors can really appreciate the historical significance of this heritage town which has so much to offer the tourist. The undisturbed coastline scenery is breathtaking and this part of Victoria is an easy drive from Melbourne. Eating venues are a bonus too!

Full of history, beautiful old buildings, not overtaken with development. Still has the old world charm, making this one of my favorite towns to visit. Fishing is great too.

We discovered Port Fairy by being a regular participant of The Best Folk Festival In The Whole World. Now we go there at other times as well - just to enjoy it’s natural untouched beauty, pretty marina, interesting shops, cosy cafes/restaurants. We particularly enjoy the ‘close up’ experiences of the local wildlife. We’ve seen wallabies waiting at street intersections, seals relaxing on the river bank and numerous varieties of birds (and even the odd stingray and snake) that seem exceptionally comfortable with us humans being part of their lives. Have yet to see a whale - but maybe next time!

One of the few Victorian beach towns that still actually feels untouched!
The most beautiful beaches, gorgeous river, amazing restaurants and fanstastic accomodtion. Anchorage Big 4 Holiday Park is a holiday destination in itself, with the kids able to amuse themselves from dusk til dawn.
As they say; “and on the 7th day, He created Port Fairy”.

Port Fairy has the best beaches in southern australia - and I have seen most of them. We holiday there frequently, as we live only 95 kms away.
Although the water temperature is not always accomodating, the actual safety of the beaches is first class, especially when you have children. And there is nothing better than to walk those beaches in the middle of winter, with the southern ocean pounding away right next to you.
Accomodation is first class, and the locals are always friendly.
Port Fairy is great, no matter when you visit.

What about the Golf
Port Fairy Golf Club is a magnificent course that also doubles as one of the great coastal walks in Victoria and is just a few kilometres form one of the states most desirable seaside retreats, Port Fairy. Set in towering linksland overlooking the Southern Ocean it enjoys cult status among true golf nuts for its formidable challenge but it’s difficult to get too upset about bad shots in such an awesome location.

Port Fairy offers all the experiences you could expect from a large city but in the confines of a quaint town of less than 3000 people. The town boasts great restaurants, a choice of old style pubs, a theatre, Day Spa, caravan and camping facilities, surf and still water entertainment including heated in ground pool, easy flat walking, kids playgrounds, sports facilities, wharf or ocean fishing, glider rides in summer, the smell of open fires in winter, Norfolk pines, whale watching, kite flying, mutton birds…… this list goes on…..Port Fairy is the best!

Port Fairy has a unique natural environment - changes by the seasons, wild and woolly in the winter, warm sand, balmy breezes and azure blue water in the summer. Lots of spots to chill out and eat, great culture - a resident art community, great shopping and friendly people. A great spot to relax and yet still feel part of the buz.

East Beach Port Fairy is one of the best beaches in the world as far as I’m concerned and I’ve seen a few. The water is cold but pristine and the waves are great for surfing, boogie boards or body surfing. It’s never so crowded that you can’t find some space. In winter there are lots of amazing walks such as Griffith Island or just along the beach. Then afterwards you can warm up with a great coffee at one of the cafe’s in the town. It is also home to a couple of great restaurants.

A nice quaint place to relax. Kids loved the bushwalks in Tower Hill (20 min drive), the rugged beaches, the Maritime Museum in nearby Warrnambool, the old fashioned lolly shop down the street. We loved Watson’s Cottage (our little house for the week), the slow pace of this old whaling town. A must!

My husband and I have spent a couple of short breaks in this pretty little town and each time have very much enjoyed the experience.
The heritage buildings speak of its interesting history as a whaling port many years ago and it has a quiet relaxed feel about it.
Lovely olde world accommodation and the last time we spent five nights at The Merrijig Inn - one of the oldest pubs in Victoria, which had a delightful restaurant with stunning food.
