Located on the banks of the Murray River, the historic Port of Echuca provides an opportunity for visitors to experience an operating steam port and cruise the river aboard a fully restored paddle-steamer.

I love the Murray region, particularly Echuca. I love the history surrounding the port with the paddle steamers and other historical activities. There are many things to do for all ages and it provides a lovely setting for a restful holiday. My best memory of Echuca is a holiday spent there with 4 other families and all of the children enjoying the many activities together.

We just love Echuca and the Murray River. In winter, the days are lovely, it is a great place to ride our bikes and the cafes in the Port of Echuca make great coffee! It is such a laid back relaxing place to be. We go there every year (at least once). We hope that the Murray is looked after by our governments so that the Murray River and all the regions that rely on it are healthy forever…and the Port of Echuca remains one of the best holiday destinations for us all.

The Port area has so much to offer. the kids love to play the big Chess game outside the pub and we all love the Port tour. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and full of information about the old days. The Paddle Steamer rides always add to our holiday, we just love the Murray and what Echuca has to offer.

Echuca is always alive with the sounds of yesteryear. Paddles slapping on the water, boat hoots echoing around the huge river red gums, clip clop of horses. We take all our overseas visitors to Echuca and they love it. Our latest guest was a steam engine buff from UK and was delighted to see a tractor from his home town! The variety of food and shopping adds to the pleasure of the day.

There is something uniquly Australian about this place, you can hear the sounds of yesteryear and experience the quitness and tranquility of the area at the same time.
A couple of days is needed to let the quietness sink in and a paddleboat ride is a must to expericence the Port - its great construction is only seen from the boats and the river.

Echuca meets the whole range of needs …..from the family holiday, to the romantic getaway, to the boys/girls weekend away! There’s somthing for absolutely everyone! The kids get into the ‘olden days’ displays and riverboats. The adults enjoy going back in time and reminiscing. The romantics have gorgeous settings for snuggles and glasses of wine and breathtaking sunsets with cockies flying over, and the fat kookaburra looking on, by the river!
The boys have their fishing and speedboats and paddlesteamers, or the ‘bbq on the river boat’. The girls can get their dose of retail therapy then enjoy a cuppa by the river or a pamper at the resort… Seriously…. Echuca is the place to go!!

ECHUCA/MOAMA is that place to be! I go to Echuca almst every weekend! The family and I never get bored there is always something to do! The southern 80 this year was fantastic over 100,000 people went! Echuca is a lovey place to visit and you will not be dissapointed! Stay in Echuca over the weekend it’s only about a 2 hour drive from the Calder freeway! By the way the weather in Echuca is always warmer than Melbourne even in winer and it is a proven fact that Echuca is hotter in Summer then Queensland!!

Possibly the best place on earth, carved out of the Aussie bush in the 1860’s and still going strong all these years later.
The Port is a restoration of the original precint - not a re-creation like many others.
I first visited in 1986 and can’t wait to get back there every chance I get.
For me personally, the whole place is HEAVEN !!!
Keep up the good work

The Port is a great place to discover the history of Echuca. Authentic paddlesteamers maintained as they were in that great era of steam transport - PS Alexander Arbuthnot (1923), PS Pevensey (1910) and PS Adelaide (1866) the oldest wooden-hulled paddlesteamer still operating in the world today. Wander the historic wharf built in the early 1860’s and ponder on the displays and exhibits that depict the activities that at the height of the river trade made the Port of Echuca the third busiest port in Australia. Take a cruise on one of the Port’s paddlesteamers to experience river transport from a bygone era. All this and more just an easy 3 hour drive (including a drive and revive) from Melbourne. A must place to visit - we first visited in 1998 and are still going back for our regular ‘Echuca Fix’.

My partner and I enjoy escaping to Echuca. We also enjoy the drive from Melbourne west. We enjoy a relaxing ride on a paddlesteamer for a quiet day along the picture perfect Murray, we also enjoy walking around the old buildings of Echuca. Good pubs for good meals for lunch. Of an evening, we go to the clubs for a meal and a few beers. After a great day out, we stroll back to our cosy motel for a tranquil spa in the room.

With 20 years experience as a skipper on the river Murray, each day I learn some thing new about the river or it people. One of the differences of this river is when you are away from development it could be any time in history, its timeless.
And with more replica steamers being built, 5 in the last 10 years they add to the sense of history of this region once known as” the Chicago of the south” .
Can you remember the Mars bar add featuring an iconic steamer???

The historic wharf is a testament as to the engineering skills of our forefathers. The maasive piles and hand cut redgum beams are an excellent example of the workmanship of the original builders. The work that is currently being undertaken to replace some of the beams will not only preserve the integrity of the structure, but ensure the wharf stands for at least another 100 years.
To my knowledge, it is the only structure of its kind, still operational on an inland river.

Echuca as a town has plenty to offer not just paddlesteamers,- dinner cruises on the boats are a great way to see the river and listen to the history of the town whilst enjoying the scenic view on the Mighty Murray river, and of course there are many other attractions worth seeing whilst in town.

Our family have enjoyed the wonderful fun, sights and sounds and water skiing of the Port of Echuca and surrounding areas for over 20 years. Family and friends have shared this experience with us at various times and have made us a closer family.
Great memories were made and are being made and enjoyed by our family in the future while holidaying in the Echuca Moama district.
We all just love it there.

A heritage icon on the mighty Murray. A broad range of activities available to meet the interests of all.
Paddle steamers are a must and make sure you check out the eats & drinks at Oscar W’s. Has to be one of the best feeds outside the metro area!

Echuca Steam Rally
Great weekend for steam nuts
A really great area to learn about our history. An easy drive from Melbourne with lots of interesting towns around

I love the Murray region, particularly Echuca. I love the history surrounding the port with the paddle steamers and other historical activities. There are many things to do for all ages and it provides a lovely setting for a restful holiday. My best memory of Echuca is a holiday spent there with 4 other families and all of the children enjoying the many activities together.
we love going on the paddlesteamers at the port, either by ourselves, with our grandchildren or out of town/overseas visitors. it is so peaceful on the river
I just love history preserved and restored well. Port of Echuca is living history.
Teh Echuca port area offer so much to for all age groups and tastes. The area is steeped in so much history and it is a credit to all who live in Echuca to support their community is such a wonerful way
Been back to Echucha many times. Great place by the river. Living history.
The Port of Echuca and the area has something for everyone. History, food/wine, kids entertainment and expand our knowledge of our rich history. All four generations of my family have loved visiting the port and enjoy frequent return visits. Keep up the great work!
Great place to visit, love the real steam paddlesteamers and the history.
Relaxing atmosphere, lots of sunshine, friendly people, places to to visit, excellent attractions, quality clubs with fine food. Echuca is always a great place to relax and rejuvenate.
The port of Echuca has something for everyone whether you are old and young. No matter how often you visit there is always a new vipe
we loved your time in the port of echuca a fun place to visit
We just love Echuca and the Murray River. In winter, the days are lovely, it is a great place to ride our bikes and the cafes in the Port of Echuca make great coffee! It is such a laid back relaxing place to be. We go there every year (at least once). We hope that the Murray is looked after by our governments so that the Murray River and all the regions that rely on it are healthy forever…and the Port of Echuca remains one of the best holiday destinations for us all.
echuca is a fantastic place to get away, not too far away and the port is fun as, especially the ice-cream parlour.
Echuca beckons you back - again and again and again. Its unique attractions delight people of all ages.
Lots of historic attractions ,great for photography, and often has music artists performing.
Echuca is a great place for a family holiday. we go 3 times a year and always vist the Port.
Very nostalgic and you can see alot of effort has gone to recreate the historic atmosphere.
Great place to go for singles, couples and families as there is plenty to see and do!
This is our second most popular historical place to visit. We tour to Echuca two oe three a year. Always plenty to do The Port is alsways of interset and not far away are two or three very well presented wineries. The city itself is always pristine and plenty of eating houses, coffee Lounges etc and enjoy wonderful wines and food.
Very picturesque!
Keep up the good work
Looking from a tourist point of view ,Echuca has so much to offer. From the fantastic weather to all the regular events- Southern 80, Wine festival, Steam festival and coming up the winter jazz festival. We loved it so much we have moved from Melbourne!!!!!!!!!!
Paddlesteamers are brilliant and there is no better place to see so many. My most favourite steamer is the P.S HERO because of its lovely aaple green shade.
I just love Echuca and I even want to live there. Jaden
Always a great relaxing family holiday watching the paddleboats go by from the cabin.
A chance to go back in time to an authentic part of our history
Was tossing up where to go for my holidays this year but after reading all these comments, I think I just found my destination. Thank you.
Far enough to forget the hastles and worries of living in the state capital.
relaxed atmosphere with great scenery and love riding the old paddlewheelers, a must do on the murray.
always a must when overseas friends visit, also great for children with paddleboat rides, great wines, lolly shop and classy gifts for the hard to please.
scrumptious ice creams too
Echuca is a great historic link to rivertrade which opened up central Australia. It is close enough to Melbourne, a great climate, varied Tourist attractions and central to stay at to visit outer surrounding tourist spots. The Echuca Steam Rally is a fantastic link to combine on a visit to Echuca.
Echuca is an amazing, relaxing town to visit. Riding a paddlesteamer on the tranquil Murray River is invigorating and stepping onto the old red gum wharf at the Port of Echuca is like stepping back in time.
Well worth visiting.
Very relaxing and great over view of the history.
Beautiful. peaceful and relaxing with a mix of history and everyday modern facilities.
The Emmy Lou Paddle steamer is the most relaxing enjoyable way to spend two nights and three days traveling up and down the Murray from the Port of Echuca. The crew is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The boat is small enough to enable you to get to know the other passengers and really relax and enjoy yourself.
Have stayed many times in Echuca, motels, caravan parks, throughout all the seasons of the year. There is always something to do and see, whatever the weather. A great place to relax and unwind for a week-end or a longer stay if we’re really lucky!
Great golf, love the prettiness of the river and the serenity and its a great relaxing getaway on a houseboats with good friends.
Echuca/Moama is the best place for a relaxing holiday
I love to step back in time and relax and dine on the P.S Emmylou. she is the
prettiest boat on the river.
there is always something to do and the people are really friendly
and very helpful.
Echuca is part of our history and I find it a very relaxing place to visit.
Close to Melbourne, enjoy the river, the port of Echuca to take you back in time
Great restaurants, listen to the kookas and enjoy the changing colours on the gum trees at sunset
A great place to visit and relax, friendly people and a good get away!
We visited the Echuca/Moama region recently with friends and found it to be a very relaxing way to catch up and explore all at the same time!! Plenty to do for both old and young. Excellent!!
The Port of Echuca is the BEST place in the world. Everyone has to go there and say hi to Bruce in the ticket box!!!!
Every one needs to visit this beautiful historic town. You can consider leaving this amazing state without first comming to Echuca/Moama. Every week there seems to be some sort of festival, market or other activity on.Most people run out of time to see everything which keeps them comming back time and time again.
I was once only a visitor but know my family have lived here for 2years and we are the happiset we have ever been.
i encourage you to take some time out for a short break or better yet come stay awhile and enjoy our amazing town and surrounding districts!!!
Once visited, you will keep coming back to Echuca. It’s relaxing and enjoyable without the hustle and bustle of the bigger towns and cities, with things to do all year round.
Our family went to Echuca for a wekkend on the river. It was one of the most relaxing times we had. The fishing was great and the scenery spectacular. So much history.
Step back in time,or stager back to the days when Echuca had 50+ licensed premises.
Plenty of watering holes even with a drought!!
Great place over the river @ Moama too.
A lovely place to spend a weekend away, steeped in history. A ride on a paddle-steamer is a must!
I absoutely love Echuca, I go there every January it is fantastic!!!
The Port of Echuca and surrounds has the mistique of the past, while allowing you to travel through time at the port. It gives us the comfort of today with many opportunities to have new experiences for all ages. The accommodation and dining around the area tantalises everyones tastedbuds. At the end of the trip you are relaxed, invigorated and inspired from the Murray, the bush. A great place to recharge the batteries.
My family all enjoy going to Echuca, we live half an hour away but always go there we have even stayed there for a holiday. With many clubs,Delicious foods , ao many shops as wel as sporting facilities.I highly recomend you come visit the the port of Echuca, with interisting history, this is a place you will never be bored at.
Great to take a ride on a genuine paddlesteamer and experience Australia’s great mighty murray river. It is an experience the children will remember forever and always want to go back on.
Echuca is a great place to relax with friends. The weather is great for all outdoors activitiesand of course you have the Murray River.
Echuca a fantastic town always something to do, caters for all age groups and its great to see how the old days were. Very easy to get to by the v/line bus or train.
Echuca is a wonderful experience on the Murry River with the paddel steamers running up and down the river. The port of Echuca is an educational and historical time.

Regards Pamela.x

its a great place for young and old to relax and have fun
Wonderful history surrounds this magestic river. Lovely towns from Swan Hill to Echuca with plenty to see off the river as well.
It has so much to do. Good all year round, and best of all a short drive from Melbourne.
Lovely atmosphere and settings with the bush, river and old fashioned street and friendly people
Lots of things to see and do. Beautiful peaceful river scenery. Friendly people. Holden museum excellent. Best patchwork shop in the country. Lovely place to unwind.
Fantastic place to take the kids for a week or a weekend. Always something to keep the family occupied with great camping and carravan parks, and plenty to do.

Great Place - lived here for 10 years - love the jazz food and wine festival in february every year - usually some event on every month - the boats are number one
Been to echuca many times and think it is a great spot to eat out and always plenty to do. Oscar W’s is a ripper you must try the eye fillet!!!
Looove Echuca, been going there for 30 years and always find something new!!! just beautifull all year round, great roads, everything is easy to find, our group of converts just keeps growing and our trips to Echuca get better every year!
Lovely clean historic town with plenty to do and see. We enjoyed the scenary around the Murray, wine tasting, restaurants and the shopping. The caravan park we stayed in was tops. The only downside was the price of fuel, but that that alas is the nom. now.
Situated on the Mighty Murray, excellent scenery, great food and wine, all in a very compact location. Relaxing on a paddlesteamer on the Murray is a great way to unwind and the locals are helpful and friendly.
One of my favourite destinations because there are plenty of venues to visit, yet you can also relax and just soak up the atmosphere.
Every time we go the Echuca, we have the same wonderful experience. Wonderful atmosphere, especially at the wharf. The shopping is unreal and the caravan parks are fantastic. There is always something to see and do, and the market is great as well. Overall Echuca is such a friendly place and every one puts them selves out for you, whether you are a big spender or not. Can wait to return.
Great for a long weekend. Fine food & wines. Excellent accomodation. A couples “refresher”getaway
The Port of Echuca is like stepping back in time with a modern twist. Fine dining at Oscar W’s on a beautiful still night watching the paddlesteamers cruise past, after a full day of water skiing on the Murray is a perfect summer holiday for our family.
This is very relaxing location with lots of history, lots of things to do I hired a bike a bike and rode all around the port, Lovely weather and lots of places to stop and enjoy a bit to eat or a quiet drink, night time offered a range of entertainment to suit all ages
The ambience.
The locals have put so much effort into the planning and presentation of the Part, much of it voluntary I understand.
The Paddlesteamers add to the whole experience and it is one of our favourite spots.
Very relaxing, friendly and family also elderly friendly. Can take anyone there from children to grandparents and everyone can have a great time. Lots to see lots to do, but it is never overcrowded. Wonderful eating places and everything is reasonably priced. Pleasant driving distance from Melbourne also.
My wife and I have always enjoyed the freshness and nostalgia that the Port Of Echuca
exudes every time we visit. You can almost hear the hustle and bustle that must have gone on in those bygone years of the paddle steamer era. Marvelous stuff.
To wander through the Port of Echuca is to step into yesteryear, into a world of grand ladies of the river and the men who skippered them.
GDay the lure of the murray river the step back in time of the horse and steam age the paddle steamers and buildings the town folk the township itself where yesterday blends with today all the grand old pubs and modern clubs so many activeties fishing boating golf sightseeing etc etc ive lost count howmany times ive been there Yes ECHUCA has some sort of magnet to draw you there over and over the slow river majestickly flowing by and the kooaburras codjoudle Cheers

Echuca was a fantastic experience - the people who work there just love their jobs and it shines through with exceptional customer service, ensuring that everyone enjoys their time & the staff in the restaurants, selling tickets, in the shops and on the paddle steamers make the experience truly amazing!
A great opportunity to view Australian history. The Port & the paddlesteamers transport you back to those busy days at the biggest inland port in Australia.
Then return to the here & now with fantastic food, wine & accommodation all offered with friendly service.
Nothing beats chugging along the peaceful Murray on a steam paddlesteamer, looking up the historic Echuca wharf and imaging the bustle of a by-gone era. Tthe historic precinct is so accessible to everybody, along with great food, wine and atmosphere. What more could you ask for !
echuca is my choice of tourist town the riverboat cruise was a great experience particularly the abillity of the crew to give a sense of history , the local wineries were very good as were the pubs and restaurants I really enjoyed Ozmaze , a good fun experience and also a challenging one
The Port of Echuca is a wonderful unique experience ,as you are able to feel the magic of the Murray River, as you step back through time into the days when paddle steamers worked up and down the Murray.
Experience the Murray River History at the Port of Echuca, enjoy the food
and wine produced in the region at the many top class resturants or just relax by the Murray River. A great place to bring the whole family.
The combination of the Murray River, Paddlesteamers and history make this a wonderful place to visit.
The Port of Echuca has some great stories and hidden features worthy of exploration. The refurbishment of the wharf is a great engineering and heritage achievement and will be fantastic when completed. History, good restaurants, a paddle steamer experience on the great Murray River; well worth a stopover!
