Love going to the Vic Market. It has a great atmosphere, good value for money and a variety of fresh food, fruit and vegetables. There is also such a wonderful mix of foods from Australia and overseas that you really are spoiled for choice. A nice place to just walk around and browse on a Saturday morning and sit down to relax for a coffee after you have done all your shopping.

Melbourne’s Victoria Market is the first place I take any overseas guest, and other out-of-towners. Many come from areas that have nothing to match it. The fruit/veggie stalls, the deli and meat and seafood halls are best of all.

You will find a fantastic range of incredibly fresh produce here - including some things that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else. It is a colourful, noisy, vibrant experience and you should follow you nose to find whatever’s cooking on the day - I highly recommend the hot jam donuts from the market van, the spicy lamb borek from the deli and the freshly squeezed juice from the fruit and veg stalls.

The open air, the covered walkways, the smells, the sounds, the spruiking meat and fruit and vege sellers, the deli tastings, the choice of fresh produce and the buzzyness all combine for a great tourist experience. Where else can you experience all this, do some great value shopping and then sit down to a cappaccino, a gourmet sausage or barek and listen to a busker in an historic environment!
