As a complete beginner I spent a fantastic weekend doing the competent crew course with sail sorrento on the beautiful yacht, Commander. The theory from saturday morning was soon put into practise on the water, and we worked together as a team to tack, gybe and for the man overboard practise. (we found & rescued a stray fender!)
The materials were easy to understand and the guys who taught us were just great - really engaging & informal. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to sail from geelong to williamstown through the night as well as along the south coast of the mornington peninsula on different vessels.
Port philip Bay is a wonderful place to sail all year round and the knowledge from this course has given me the skills and confidence I need to make the most of the experience and really enjoy myself.

Enterprize sailing ship
I done a Venture sail on the Enterprize sailing ship which was an overnight experience, sleeping on the ship and hearing the waves lapping against the hull, going aloft and just experiencing the whole magic of how our forebears came to Australia

Last summer I sailed with my friends on a cruise for a day on the bay with Sorrento Sailing Escape. We viewed the magnificent coastline of Sorrento and Portsea, passed ships in the channel, saw seals and dolphins and sailed into Queenscliff for lunch onboard. The skipper gave us time at the helm and we experienced the thrill of gliding across the calm waters of Port Phillip Bay on a magnificent 40 ft. yacht with the wind in our sails.

I had a fantastic day last summer with my friends sailing with Sorrento Sailing Escape. The water was calm with a gentle breeze, seals entertained us, we passed huge ships going up and down the channel and we all had a go at the helm and really got the feel of sailing a big yacht. We anchored for lunch in a little cove at Portsea and a pod of dolphins swam past us within a metre of the yacht…what more could we ask? Sailing on the sheltered waters of Port Phillip Bay is an unforgettable experience.

Sailing on a luxury yacht at sunset with Sorrento Sailing Escape. It was unreal watching the sun go down on the horizon as we sipped on a glass of bubbly with our friends while cruising aboard a beautiful yacht on a warm balmy evening….and the dolphins following us were just the icing on the cake!

the lovely waters of the bay with the dolphins and great sheltered water made our sailing experience fantastic. You know you are safe taking a dive off the boat and swimming into Sorrento for breakfast. Too relaxing!!! No phones or TV ,just your favourite CD’s. This is escaping…..the only way to really get away.

To me there is no greater pleasure than sailing, no more excitement, no greater challenge, no more fun…
And I have lost count of my excursions on this water way.
Even when crossing the heads, I am just so happy to be alive, and so excited by the wonder of it all

Loved sailing on the bay but the waters are now unhealthy, hopefully they’ll be pristine again in a few years. I don’t want to sell my Bluebird

Has a beatifull vista of Melbourne and the coast that can’t be seen from anywhere else. Healthy and environmentaly friendly. Excellent freindship and active sport for all the family to share. The club system throughout the bay and other areas provides facilities and the opportunity for those without a yacht to go sailing.
The best place to watch a sunset on a warm summers night.
