St Kilda is a wonderful place to visit on any sunday. It may start with some bacon and eggs down acland st and finish with a glass of wine. But what makes it complete is the stroll along the upper esplanade to see some locally made wares by some fine crafts folk. I hear the market is in the middle of some uncertainty regarding a development. At a time where many of Australian skills are lost overseas I think it would be a shame to lose a market devoted to makers. As a local.. its an ideal location to bring visitors and did I mention the bacon & eggs?

I am a local Middle Park ratepayer and have known this market for nearly 30 years. The last time I bought something there was in about 1980. This market was originally suggested by the former St Kilda Council for local artists and artisans to display and sell their wares however it was soon largely taken over by outsiders who go from market to market as a profession. I can only assume the local artists were not interested or were not here in St Kilda in the first place. The future of the Sunday Market could be bleak as the current Port Phillip Council has approved the St Kilda Triangle development which will occupy half of the areas currently used for the market. Also the market sellers “hog” all the Upper Esplanade street parking all day plus the view of the foreshore is blocked by the stalls. My suggestion is to move the stalls to the nearby Peanut Farm Reserve which is next to the hippies “Veg Out” gardens and Acland St shops.

St. Kilda Esplanade Art and Craft Market is truly fantastic. It has a nice atmosphere, friendly and a good service.
While you are there pay a visit to the Delft Blue Studio stall and its Migrant Ship stall, very interesting and a great job done.

A wonderful eclectic craft market in a picturesque spot. Have fun browsing and follow up with cappuccino and cake at one of the many boutique cafes nearby.

St. Kilda Esplanade Market has the best atmosphere. Friendly artist who give personal service a rare thing today.
It is amazing but it is all handmade. I saw one lady demonstrating the Delft Blue painting an old 17th century craft from Europe. Magical! worth visiting.

    Sunday in St Kilda
Brunch in Acland St, browse in readings, wander around the market on the Esplanade, have a beer at the Espy, then go for a walk along the pier then along the beach, dinner with a window seat at the Stokehouse
