Theatreworks is a great venue and has always provided high quality programs. The professional and welcoming staff have made my night of theatre always enjoyable. I have been educated and now appreciate the arts culture after having met actors, directors, writers and people from behind the scene. Theatreworks dedication in supporting the indepandent arts scene is commendable. They support small theatre companies put on original works for the community to enjoy theatrical experiences. Theatreworks have shown commitment and professionalism which demonstrates why this venue is so popular.

I always have a great night out at Theatreworks. It’s nestled amongst the great vibe of St Kilda restaurants and clubs, and there is such a range of theatre forms that every time I go is a new and exciting experience. There’s always something good to see there.

Founded by some of the top people in the industry- such as Australian writer Hannie Rayson- there is nothing pretentious or second rate about a night at Theatreworks.
TheatreWorks is great independent theatre providing a venue for up and coming artists,actors technicians to really showcase their talents. It provides for new and original works to be presented. The theatre has a great vibe and the personnel are welcoming. TheatreWorks has a great program and a warm, contemporary vibe. You can be sure of seeing something fresh and entertaining from our best cutting edge young theatre makers. TheatreWorks makes great coffee and it’s just up the street from some of St Kilda’s best restaurants. This is definitely the place to go for the whole groovy theatre thing.

I love going to TheatreWorks to see a show, there is such a variety, something for everyone really….. I am particularly impressed with the Company Initiative Program that assists emerging theatre companies in presenting their works in a professional and supportive theatre environment.

A wonderful gem in the heart of St Kilda that has been busily helping to keep Melbourne’s famed independent theatre scene alive for decades. The company’s actors and techs at work here are producing some of the most risky and interesting theatre in Australia, at an affordable price for everyone. So come along and check it out!
Theatreworks has provided young theatre-makers with ample opportunities to have their work performed as part of an independent season and community effort. It focuses on groups that are hoping to develop their professional skills and have their work showcased for large audiences. The theatre, much like La Mama or The Store Room, creates a warm theatre experience that connects members of the artistic community with broader audiences and their peers. Not only is the work of a high quality, but also the programs available for practitioners to have their first stab at professional performance seasons. The company initiative and creative developments provide artists with realistic opportunities to broaden their horizons. Companies like Little Death with last year’s Mercury Fur, Stuck Pigs Squealing with Lally Katz & The Mysteries of the Volcano, and so much of Theatre At Risks later productions, have been able to utitilise this wonderful theatre to entertain, provoke thought, and solidify their mark in theatre. I recommend that you vote for this space as it is one of the only venues in Melbourne left that allow small theatre companies to put on new and original works. And hey, not one show is over thirty bucks to see, which sadly, has become a rarity over the last few years!
