The festival weekend has been a major part of our year for 17 years, we meet long term friends, enjoy great music of many styles, eat and drink well, and everyone in town is positive, happy and friendly. We book our accomodation a year ahead to be certain of comfort and convenience. Then we travel the area for a few days to enjoy the local produce and scenery.

What a feast! Gourmet snags on the barbie, boutique beers to wash them down, and a wonderfully talented array of musicians (some from abroad, but many home-grown) providing wall-to-wall music at some atmospheric venues. The only possible problem is to pick from the appealing options put together by the festival director, Adrian Jackson, each year. And if any member of the party wants to get out of the music groove for a while, there are plenty of attractions in the area.
This weekend is music for the soul and recreation for the spirit. All power to the organisers and the musicians.

Each year I visit the Wangaratta jazz festival. That trip is very important to me, the festival is my Mecca. The music is of a very high standard. Those few precious days in the friendly town each year are a spiritual renewal for me and I think many others who are drawn back each year. It allows me to be totally selfish for a few days - a good thing for any woman nowadays. I enjoy the area around the town too, visiting the wineries and restaurants in the region. It is a lovely thing to do.

My first trip to Wangaratta came after living in Europe for nearly 20 years. I was delighted by the high standards of the Australian performers and the friendliness of the locals and so I now visit every year.

This is a festival about the MUSIC - that keeps it real. But it’s a great place to be too.

It’s a great weekend, an easy drive from Melbourne but you’re in another world. Lots of music of course, but opportunities to explore or just relax if you need a break. Some good restaurants and cafes too!

Biggest and best jazz/blues/improvised music festival in Australia, bar none.
A wonderful showcase for the amazing, world class music and musicians that Australia produces.

A fantastic weekend is held in Wangaratta on the last weekend of October, to showcase the Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival. There are an abundance of venues around our beautiful town for you to choose from. The overseas artists which choose to play at these venues are 2nd to none!! There are also craft markets, a Black Tie Ball, and many other “free “events & demonstrations to keep you occupied for as many hours as you are willing to attend!!
