We’ve been a couple of times now and love the mansion - really well restored and a good level of historical information. The gardens are fantastic - great for a picnic I’d imagine. And the real treat is the sculpture walk around the back running down to the river - quite stunning setting with some really interesting pieces.
The topper was looking out over the river and seeing a herd of rhino’s kicking up the dust as they ambled across the dusty plain on the opposite bank - no sign of fences so quite surreal.
Werribee Historic Mansion;
Incorporating mansion, gardens, open range zoo, winery and soffitel hotel.
Those not fortunate to have travelled to Werribee to visit this unique area are truly missing out on experienceing one of the most magnificent precints in Victoria. A most elegant mansion beautifully restored, acres of wonderful gardens with trees on a grand scale, the Shadowfax Winery, world renowned State Rose Garden and the Werribee Plains Open Range Zoo. The grand Equestrian Centre and ample picnic opportunities. One day is not enough!
Feel like time travelling? Well welcome to Werribee House, you feel like you have stepped back into time when you come through the gates and see the mansion. The gardens are lovely and the house is maginficent. If you put on the headphones and hear the story of the family that lived there, you are transported back into time. The only thing missing is that you are still dressed in your modern day clothing.
Fantastic day out!
The historic mansion is unique in that it transports the visitor to another time when life was so very different to now. After only a short time listening to the audio tour you feel as though you are eavesdropping on the Chirnside families’ life from more than 100 years ago.
Where else in Victoria ,would you find a precinct with so much diversity in tourism, as at
Werribee? The historical Chirnside Mansion completed in 1877, takes you right back
in time & place. If coming for the weekend, a night at The 5 star Mansion hotel after a late visit & wine tasting to the Shadowfax winery would complete a great day. Next morning a stroll in the world class State Rose garden is a wonderful way to start your day.
Next a visit to enjoy the atmosphere of The Werribee Zoo.This you can take in for a few hours or all day! The children will love it!
The horse lover has only a few minutes drive down the road to visit The National Equestrian Centre.
a really magic place. A savannah for man and beast.
love Tony the Giraffe
Because it has a beautiful rose garden and grounds
The combination of attractions makes Werribee Park really special. Something for everyone. The zoo is wonderful & continues to change & improve. The newest attraction of feeding the giraffe’s will be a great hit. I’m sure. The Victoria State Rose Garden is world class. One day is not enough to enjoy these attractions & learn about the history of the district.
Werribee Park is often a missed treasure of Victoria. The mansion, homestead, farm and gardens offer a historic look at the lifestyle that the pioneering brothers made for themselves here in Australia. Werribee Park has so much to offer, however the restored interiors of the mansion are my favourite. They display such charm and elegance - for a moment I feel I have stepped back in time. Werribee Park has been a favourite of mine for over 15 years. Definately worth a visit!
Simply supurb
The Mansion is a beautifully furnished and restored sandstone mansion built by the Chirnside brothers in the 1870’s. Set in about 10 hectares of immaculate victorian gardens with spacious lawns and a lake (full!). Restored farm buildings and original homestead are also accessible. Home of the Helen Lempriere National sculpture exhibition.
peace and serenity at the Werribee Park
it was peaceful and pleasent to visit.
i tell all to go its a must.
Where else is there anyhing like this? Really beautiful period house and garden surrounds, and the zoo experience is much better than the Melbourne Zoo.
No where can you experience a such variety of activities in one precinct. From the grandeur of the Werribee Park mansion, to the excitement of going on safari through the African savannah, to the beauty of the Victorian State Rose Gardens.
There is also the Eqestrian centre and a chance to enjoy a glass of quality local wine at Shadowfax Winery. And to top it off you have the luxury of a pampering stay at the Mansion Hotel.
What more could you want.
Chirnside mansion Werribee and Point Cook homestead - The Chirnsides were a pioneering Scotttish family who became an important part of Victoria’s early 19th century squattocracy; these two properties are perfect examples of their influence and success in early Victoria.
