It was our first time to the zoo the whole family went two children and two adults, and we just loved every minute of the zoo, we went on the bus tour and we felt so close to the animals. Its the first time my son has been so quiet because he was to busy watching the animals.
Need to go back another day may be a sleep over at the zoo would be great.
I would recommend the werribee zoo to everyone its wonderful.

Experience life as it is, on the african plains amongst wild animals. You can spend a day or sleep out over night ‘ on safari ‘ on the open plain in the company of Giraffe, Hippos, Rhino, Zebra and Buffalo - and many others - and within hearing of Lions and Tigers.
The children love watching the mercats at play, riding the safari bus, often with the long tongue of the Giraffe curiously licking the windows, a thrill for children and grown ups. .
Take a picnic and lunch in the grounds of the famous Werribee Mansion owned by the Chirnside family, near by. And don’t forget the magnificent rose garden.

The Werribee Zoo is wonderful. The animals walk around their natural habitat while the people look from ‘caged’ buses. The giraffes especially seem to take delight in wandering in the path of the bus - and forcing it to stop - as they amble off slowly! The meerkats are probably the most popular animals at the zoo - as they look at you through the glass as the people eat and decide what to do next. A great day out!

State Government backs down on theme park proposal at the Werribee Zoo (01 Jul 08). Better to admit a mistake that to follow through with an unpopular and probably unprofitable venture. Peace returns to the unique Werribee Park for all to continue to enjoy.

This great open bush/veld zoo oasis, located in the middle of the western suburbs and about 15 minutes from Melbourne, is on land that was part of a huge sheep station empire in the 19th century. The Chirnside family owned it and the nearby Werribee Mansion, also a tourist attraction. I believe it was later sold to the RC Church (the Australian film “The Devils Playground” was filmed there in the 1970’s) and later it was bought by the Government of Victoria. As mentioned by another blogger this tranquil site may soon be destroyed by a huge Gold Coast style theme park. Australia is a small place population wise and the Queensland theme park is enough in my view. Keep the Werribee Zoo as it is but just in case they mess it up I recommend you visit it in 2008.

Werribee Zoo is such a fantastic resource. Please support the Zoo’s efforts in preventing a sell-off to Village Roadshow to build a Gold Coast style “theme park” there.

Werribee Open Range Zoo has the most fantastic behind the scene experiences. I have been on the Rip Roaring Lion Feed two times and am planning a third visit later this year. The grounds are peaceful, the animal enclosures are brilliant and the experience of seeing rhinos, giraffes and more on the savannah is breath taking. I love this Victorian attraction.

Only moments down the country road you come across the majestic Werribee Park Mansion and its devine gardens. To visit the trees of significance is a humbling experience.

A pure pleasure to staying at the Sofitel Mansion and Spa caps off a wonderful experience.

Victoria has many wonderful attractions, for me, this is the best.

At most zoos the animals are in the cage and the customers walk around… at Werribee zoo the customers are in the cage (in the form of a safari vehicle) and the animals are walking around!
This was such a great experience… all children will love it… especially the interactive hippo enclosure and seeing the lions face-to-face.
All the staff were so lovely and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a great day out!!!!
