Wilsons Prom is heaven on a stick. It makes your heart sing and your soul fly. Whenever I need comfort I close my eyes and transport myself to Norman Bay - I am home and at peace.

Book in early if you wish to staff because lots of people have discovered the natural beauty of the Prom and it is very popular. For a place to get away, the Prom is number 1.

This amazing place is one that I love to share with friends and visitors to Melbourne or Australia. The bush walks, the beach and the tranquility of the Prom make it truly a little piece of heaven here on earth.

‘The Prom’ is a truly magical place. The mystery dates back for as long as Indigenous people walked along its beautiful beaches, over mountains diverse with vegetation and through misty gullies full of tree ferns and pristine streams. All these experiences are in the wilderness but only 2 hours from Melbourne and so totally accessible to anyone who can walk. This is a truly fantastic destination for all seasons.

A truly amazing place where you can enjoy the beach, the scenery, the walks, the peace. The kids will love it and where else can you get visited by wombats, koalas, possums and all types of wildlife while you relax by your van at night.

Fantastic memories date back to a school camp there over 37 years ago.. revisited many years later and the beaches are still beautiful, scenery magnificent, walks are invigorating, beautiful accomodation choices, better than the bunkhouse of all those years ago. It has now become a favourite place for my children - 29,27,16,14 who all enjoy swimming, fishing and walking. We love it and plan to return as soon as we can.

The Prom is probably Victoria’s most spectacular and pristine outdoor area. Whether you are into walking, scenery, beaches, wildlife, flora or just relaxing with friends the Prom has it all. We love the walks from the car park at Telegraph Saddle to Waterloo Bay or Sealer’s Cove. Both are easily managed in one day but also make terrific overnight expeditions. The beaches on the eastern side of the Prom are simply stunning. For those who enjoy walking but are not up to the longer distances there is an abundance of wonderful short walks beginning at Tidal River. With all of this within a two and a half hour drive of Melbourne what more could you ask for.

Shortly after migrating to Australia from France we visited Wilson’s Promontory 35 years ago and loved the natural and wild beauty of the aera so much that we return there at every opportunity and decide to seachange-retire in Foster near Wilson’s promontory in 1999 a very good move indeed.

Living in NSW now, we don’t get down to the Prom as often as we’d like, unfortunately! It is the best place in the world in my opinion….

The Prom. Beauty. Variety. Like going home. So many memories. A place to be yourself. A place to find yourself.

When I meet someone who doesn’t know what I mean when I say I live near ‘The Prom’ or has not heard of Wilsons Prom, I am amazed, because it seems that I can meet people from all over Australia and most people do not only know of it but also have great memories of their visit/s. I have a shop in Foster and I am intrigued by the international visitors who know so much more about this special place than some locals!

If you haven’t been, come and do plan to do more than amble around Tidal River!

My husband and I took our 6 year old son to Wilson Promontory for the first time late last year. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. We took an hour walk along a bush track and encountered two wallabies walking the track behind us. It was a highlight of our trip. The beaches are also beautiful - took many great photos. Wisons Prom is a must see! Squeaky beach: where everytime you walk all you can hear is the sqeaky sound of sand against your bare feet, Tidal river: where the water is a supurb temperature and you can see the little winding river joining the enourmous ocean and Lilly Pilly Gully: where you can hike through some of the most magnificent scenery you have ever seen! The animals wander around sharing their habitat with you, the rangers are more than willing to share all Wilsons Prom’s history with you and with what you can see from the amount of lookouts surrounding this glorious “piece of heaven” it is sometihng not to be missed by anyone! A brilliant experience for all that is for sure!

It is such a beautiful scenery, blissful and perfect place for everybody who needs a proper rest and retreat. There are hundred things you could do - from swimming, camping, biking, fishing, bush walking or just do nothing.
My highlight was the Squeaky Beach - the sand was so clean, white and soft and it does make a sqeaky noise! I also love the bush walking trip to the top/point - the view was so breath taking and I reckon I got some of the best shot when we watch the sunset there…The kids love the part when they could see some wombat and kangaroo in front of their nose - so unreal! The beach is one of the best - very clean and naturally ‘untouched’ - I stay there all day and do nothing else than watching and listening to the waves. I think they also have such beautiful clear and very blue sky - you could get the best picture even with the crappy camera.

A great place to relax and smell the eucalypts if you are so inclined or be more active depending on the time of year walking hiking swimming or surfing. Views are great and the flora and fauna are unbelievable

The beaches you visit during all of the many and varied hikes are world class and absolutley breath taking. There are so many different landscapes you traverse on even a 10km hike, the wild life is amazing and it is great for kids……The only downside is that it is so popular it is hard to get a spot during peak times, even hiking!

I did the walk to the light house last year , it was hard but well worth the effort.

We stayed at the light house overnight and the view in the morning was awesome. What a sunrise.

I would recommend this walk to anyone (fit enough to do it).

I have lived in Victoria all my life. After travelling over 60,000 odd kms around our magnificent country, I reckon we have some of the best scenery, beaches and parks in Australia….AND it’s all here in our backyard. Wilson’s Prom is a fabulous place to explore, take the time to visit and experience nature at it’s best!

The Prom is a wonderful place to take overseas visitors for a glimpse of the real Australia. Driving across the flats, where kangaroos and emus graze, takes their breath away. The stunning views of pure white beaches creamed by emerald seas, and of huge lichen encrusted boulders are great subjects for the photographers. There’s safe swimming for kids at Tidal River and good surf for beginners on the main beaches. There’s the magic of Lillypilly Gully, with the creek gurgling under the tree ferns, the scent of gums on bush walks, the joy of watching a wombat amble down the paths. The Prom restores the spirit.

The Prom is the place to reconnect with mother earth. The fresh air, the river so slow and relaxing, the beaches wild and windy one day, hot and smooth the next.
The parrots and kookaburras calling and the wombats raiding neglected food supplies. Camping without electricity the ultimate experience in relaxation, reconnecting with family and re-establishing the reality of our relationship with nature.

Environmental diversity. Beauty of flora and Fauna and unexpected surprises around each corner. Well serviced at tidal river but wonderfully remote on the outskirts. Easily accessible from Melbourne for a short or longer visit. Great Parks service.

Australian nature at its best. Rugged and untouched. Excellent facilities without spoiling the walks. Only downside is the cafe. Only fried foods, no salads or sandwiches. Admittedly we were there in Autumn (last weekend) but still lacking.

  119. 88 Mark Harris
    May 17th, 2008 at 11:35 am

Nature at it wildest and yet in all it’s beauty wrapped up in a package of accomodation from camping to luxury units. Close to Melbourne, something for all the family, from overnight hikes to making sand castles on the beach at Tidal River. I remember when the road to Tidal River was gravel into the park and even then it was worth the drive. Now it is a pleasant drive on a sealed road and all modes of transport are permitted. There would be few Parks to rival Wilson’s Promontory for all its majesty in a neat affordable holiday package. Keep the Prom away from the hand of the big developers and in its pristine condition.

The Prom has beautiful coastal and mountain scenery. In sunshine we enjoy the brilliant turqoise ocean and pristine white beaches dotted with enormous rounded granite boulders. Sometimes we have brooding skies, rain and wind howking through the sheokes. Whatever the weather we enjoy fabulous bush walks, great surfing and an abundance of wildlife at dusk, with the wombats wandering amongst the tents. The Prom is a place for all - the Loo Ern walk and beach wheelchairs for folk with disabilities, school campsites, the safety of Tidal River for the little ones, and plenty of walking for the more active. There is a broad range of accommodation opportunities from family flats to tent sites, but best of all it is a place where we can leave television, work, phones and traffic behind.

I remember when I was 5 years old going to Wislons Promontay on the back of a tray truck for the Sunday School picnic. It was like going to a magic place. The beautiful clear water of Tidal river, and the birds flying all about you.Everyone was so excited to just be there in this wonderful place. Also they had a magic display of the flora and fauna of the area and it left in imprint on our minds of a fascinating place. That is 60 years ago. And I would love to get back there sometime.

Having been to Wilsons Prom a few times over the years, I think it is the place to go to relax, walking to renew ones fitness, resting to view the lovely colours of the water and the Sunsets.

Of course there are the wild life, the vegetation to look at while doing all of these things and too sleep at night ,listening to the waves crashing on the shores around the camp at Tidal River.

I have been to Wilsons Prom each year for the last 4 years for a weekend with work collegues. It is the most relaxing place one can go. With 24 people staying in a lodge there is something for everyone to do. You can sit and read, walk the many offered tracks, surf, canoe, swim, fish and so much more.

You get a sense of how beautiful Wilsons Prom is long before you get there. Just drive towards the lovely township of Foster on the South Gippsland Highway (2 hours from Melbourne) and gasp as the panorama of the Prom, Corner Inlet and Waratah Bay comes into view. Truly magnificent - like the whole of South Gippsland.

Wilsons Prom is a wonderful piece of Nature, We love putting our Boat in at Port Welshppol and heading out tthe entrance and down along the Eastern side of the Prom which is so unspoilt and only accesable by Boat or on foot. The Coves of Refuge and Sealers are wonderful spots for a picnic lunch, romantic stroll along the beach or some peace and solitude. Refuge Cove is very popular with Boaties and Yachties and is often used as a safe stop over on long journeys around this section of coast line. The fishing around the Island out from these coves is fantastic and you never know what you may get.

We have just returned from a wonderful, envigorating week at the Prom. It was the spot when I first discovered the wonders of the Australian bush and the joys (and pains) of bushwalking; the place we returned to for camping trips over the years, and our family holiday spot for 10 years when our children were little. It was just superb to return, after 10 years and child-free, to this beautiful place. It is still as stunning as before. We can’t wait to go back - especially to walk those magnificent beaches and toexplore interesting coastline habitats

I walked the Tidal River to the Lighthouse track with 2 friends over 40 years ago.
The track was overgrown and we had to push our way through in some parts.
We walked there & halfway back on 1 day and spent the night in the old PMG hut.
It was dark when we arrived and we ate & slept & next day were told there had been a snake in the hut the day before. Just as well it was dark!
What a great experience with such wonderful views and bushland.

The southernmost point of the Australian mainland. The granitic mountains covered by an astonishing range of different vegetation types and seascapes on every hand combined with abundant birdlife and unique animals. A place in which it is possible to achieve for a time a solitary location for contemplation amid the pressing needs of contemporary society. A place in which it is possible to watch the waves crash against the cliffs in spectacular fashion and on another occasion experience a wineglass sea. The offshore islands provide an image of the everlasting nature of the action of the waves.

The unspoilt natural beauty of the Prom is unparallelled in Victoria, from fern-filled gullies to soaring granite mountains, part rugged rocky coastline, part idyllic sandy beaches. Explore it in short strolls or long hikes - or take it easy and just revel in its loveliness, recharging your batteries and appreciating why it is regarded amongst Victoria’s national parks as the jewel in the crown.

Wilsons Promontory and surrounds has it all, the sea, the mountains, the wildlife and farmland. It is great for all seasons with ever changing views, clean beaches, walks for all ages, great fishing. It is only 2 hours drive from the outskirts of Melbourne and offers an abundance of activities for the whole family.

Be it a hike to the lighthouse, a hop up Mount Oberon or a swim at Squeaky Beach the Prom has everything. From beautiful views to rascally wombats and squawking parrotts there is so much to see and all of it is beautiful. That feeling of isolation at the southermost point on the Aussie mainland is unbeatable, and those tired legs after a hike to Sealers cove are absolutely worth it. WIlsons Prom is Australia at it’s absolute stunning best.

Wilsons Prom is Victoria’s most accessible ‘wilderness’. The views over water and over hills, of pounding surf or tranquil rivers and inlets are all within easy walking distances. An extended walk will take you to the southern tip of our mainland and its rugged beauty. The sunsets from Mt Oberon are magical and easily reached by anyone who enjoys walking. Tidal River village may be buzzing with family activity but you can still find solitude on a beach or in the bush. The ‘Prom’ is a fantastic destination rich in wildlife, steeped in history and natural wonders.

Natural Beauty, best beaches in Australia, great coastal and bush walks, spectacular scenery and very few places like it where the ocean meets the mountains.

The scenery is stunning, the wildlife prolific and unafraid. There are kilometres of glorious walking tracks to suit any fitness level. The surf beaches are exceptional and often almost devoid of people. Birdwatching and wildflower identifying add another dimension All this only about three hours from Melbourne.

I voted for Wilsons Promontory as a favourite ‘must see’ as it remains one of the most superb examples of unspoilt natural beauty available in Victoria. That it is so available for everyone to enjoy is a true gift for us all to cherish and enjoy.

It’s impossible to hold onto the stresses of life when confronted with the overwhelming and healing energy of the Prom.

It blows the cobwebs from your soul, enlivens your spirit and makes you grateful that places of such magnificence are protected for us and future generations.

No matter what the weather, its wildness is invigorating and exciting.

It’s worth the drive to feel fully alive!

Wilsons Promontory is my favourite destination… The views are victorious in Victoria, the beaches are beautiful and it is always a pleasure to be there during any season - summer, autumn, winter or spring! The Lighthouse is a lovely place to rest, Squeaky Beach is special with it’s squeaky sand, it is a marvellous feeling to sit at the Mount Oberon summit and look over Tidal River, the islands and beyond.

It’s all about the great outdoors. Beautiful beaches, easy and rugged walks, spectacular scenery, fresh air, bush smells and wallabies spying on you. Stay nearby at Sandy Point and enjoy long walks (with your dogs if you like) on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in Victoria. If you have a boat go crusing on Shallow Inlet and see if you can catch some fish. With safe beaches and lots of wildlife it’s the perfect family holiday.

The Prom has a special energy which brings peace and tranquility to the soul the minute I catch my first glimpse.
I love the isolation and the way we can walk forever on beaches and mountains and fern gullies.
Best of all I met my husband there on my first visit - it was definitely fate

The Prom is Paradise! It’s like closing the door on the outside world and feeling the stress melt away as you enter the gates. Fantastic beaches, walks available for all fitness levels - it’s just a breath of fresh air. It’s a privilege to be living only 45 mins from the Prom and being able to offer this paradise to our guests also.

I’ve been going to the Prom since I was a baby yet every time I drive round that corner and get the first glance of Whisky Bay, I still go WOW. Having travelled all around the world and visited many national parks and famous scenic places, the Prom still remains my favourite. It’s the kind of place that always amazes you with its beauty and it doesn’t matter what the weather is like because that’s all part of the experience.

The Prom can be loved and enjoyed regardless of the season. Breath - taking views that are ever changing with the weather conditions, an artist or photographers heaven.
A mulititude of activities for people of all ages and physical ability. The prom however is a focal point for the many other areas in close proximity that can be explored and enjoyed at a pace that suits me, all have some unique experiances to offer and the locals go out of their way to welcome you and share what they are so fortunate to be part of. I just keep going back for more.

Fantastic natural mountain, rainforest and coastal scenery and beautiful sandy beaches, idyllic scenic coves and bays for exploring on foot or relaxing in while idling on a yacht at anchor, spectacular rock formations, wonderful unique Australian plants, indigenous species and colourful wildlife almost at every turn, tremendous walks for people of all abilities and fitness levels, wonderful views from lookouts, mountain peaks and walking tracks - all in one majestic national park that is virtually in our own “backyard” - only two hours from Melbourne!

Pristine, sandy white beaches, flanked by magnificent bushland and amazing (!!!)rocky outcrops. The scenery is absolutely stunning and we are blown away by it’s beauty every time we get down there. The wildlife is fantastic and the kids all love it (so do the big kids!!). There’s a really great range of accommodation at Tidal River, from camping to self-contained cabins at really reasonable rates, but be sure to book early as it is such a popular spot! Loads of great hiking trails too. It has something for everyone.

The drive in to Tidal River from Yanakie is arguably the most breath taking 30 minutes’ of motoring in Victoria. Have your camera ready.

Hiking round the southern half of The Prom’ has been my best experience to date; you get to experience amazing ocean views, pristine untouched beaches (esp. Waterloo Bay), different environments blend from one to the other as you get to enjoy open scubland to bushland to temperate rainforest to wetlands, etc. the list goes on. The best thing is that it’s untouched.

What more could you want in a holiday? Sandy beaches (even one that squeaks!!), great views, relaxing atmosphere, wildlife wandering along the road-side and scenic bushwalks. Stay in the laid back township of Yanakie, visit wineries, go to a market. Sooo much to do in the area!!

The hike from Tidal River, through the amazing forest and sandy beaches is spectacular at the least. With an array of amazing (and curious) wildlife, one can really enjoy the true beauty of Victoria’s coastline all in the one destination. Watching the mud crabs during the tidal movements is always a lot of fun, and well worth the drive.

What could be better than to wander along Squeaky Beach where the sand really does squeak under your feet; or to camp at Tidal River and watch a wombat waddle past your tent; or to walk through forest and fern gullies to the tranquil Sealers Cove.

Something for everone - bushwalking for the energetic, beaches and relaxation for familes and the more sedate. Fascinating flora and fauna, views to kill for - you can see to Tasmania (Rondono Island) History going back to the beginning of european exploration, or thousands of years to the arrival of the Kulin people - and possibly the connection point for the Tasmanian indigenous people
Camp, caravan or book a hut - from the basic to the wonderful ‘enviro-huts along the river.
You can even join the Friends of the Prom Inc. and do regular volunteer work to conserve this magic place.
