Have a drink with Chloe at Y&J’s
For years, Australians have been coming to Young and Jackson to have a drink with Chloe - Queen of the Bar room.Chloe was painted by Jules Joseph Lefebvre, and has won many awards for her beauty, as well as much fame due to The Anglican Social Purity deciding that a naked woman was scandalous in the early 1900’s.
Of course, now Chloe is adored by both men and women alike, and her fans come from all over the world to see her. Perhaps her stance with cocked head - waiting for her lover to return - gives the impression that she’s been waiting for you.
For diggers, it’s tradition to have a beer with Chloe before setting off to war, and then (as sworn), to return to her, and drink with her again. She remains the mistress of the soldiers, the Naked Nymphe, and has many wedding proposals, and even love letters written to her from soldiers.
Chloe is a Melbourne Icon, as is Young and Jackson (one of Melbourne’s oldest pubs). One cannot visit Melbourne without popping their head in to toast health with Chloe!

The second floor of Y&J’s is a great place to have a drink and look out over the bustling corner of Flinders Street and Swantson Street, and marvel at the iconic Federation Square and Flinders Street Station.
