The southernmost point of the Australian mainland, Wilsons Promontory (affectionately known to Victorians as ‘the Prom’) is arguably the most loved national park in Victoria. Its 130 km coastline is framed by granite headlands, mountains, forests and fern gullies. Tidal River, 30 km inside the park boundary, is the focus for tourism and recreation. The park contains the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria.
Tidal River has some 484 camping and caravan sites, beautifully situated near the beach and river.

Peace – with the water and with the forest
Best place in Victoria – just gets better each year. We’ve been having a fabulous time there for 30 years! First went as a family group, then part of a school group, gained independence and went on our own and now bring the kids back – there really is something for everyone – wildlife, scenery, beach and now wonderful lodges have for that extra pizazz!
Natural, Victorian, peaceful and accommodation for all; camping, cabins, luxury accommodation, hiking, walking, running, swimming, surfing fishing or sleeping. Anything you want it is great.
Beautiful beachside in the morning, gets better throughout the day.
Photos never do its beaches justice and so you are drawn back The hum of the surf is so natural. The unspoilt views are so refreshing. May we keep this one section of our coast for all future generations.
Visiting the Prom reminds me of who I am. My first holidays were as a young girl with my parents, siblings and family friends, later as a teenager with my peer group and the excitment of new relationships, later again with my new husband, then our young family and then with our own kids as teenagers discovering their own new realationships. Now we go as an older couple, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. There has always been something for us there – energetic walks of discovery, relaxing beach strolls, yoga in an isolated spot, wombats and birds. With Oberon watching over the bays and out to the ocean, and staying the same while I have aged, I know that I am a but a small part of nature and that the Prom will be there for generations to love well after I am gone.
We normally stay on the murray river but this has changed our minds in more ways than one and will be returning soon.
Last time we were there a wombat tried to get into our camper trailer. Cant get much closer to nature than that. Love it
Tidal river is a great place to camp and have a relaxing couple of days away from the hussle and bussle of modern living. The kids lovig seing teh occasional wombat or kangaroo and the swimming is fantastic in summer.
Try going in winter, for a change. The wombats, emus, possums, wallabies and roos are aplenty, even in the camping ground.
Have been there every year since I was a kid and still cant get enough of it. With the bush and ocean surrounding you, in my eyes its about as good as it can get!
Victorias not-so-hidden gem, the last “escape” close enough to town to not kill you on the drive home!
Tidal river camping site is located in Wilsons Prom National Park. Camping at Tidal river gives you access to one of Victorias most beautiful national parks and beachs. From Tidal river you can walk so many tracks, hang out on the surf beach, play in the river and meet friendly local animals! Its so relaxing and a beautiful place to be.
Camping, cabins, beach, kid safe Tidal River beach area, hiking, wildlife, fishing and scuba diving – everything a family can need
You can swim, dive, kayak, hike or just relax in an unspoilt haven withTidal River as a great base for like minded lovers of nature.
Out of all the places we’ve gone as a family this is the one the kids loved the best.
The best place to get away from it all and have a close experience with nature (with all the comforts if you want!)
The best place to experience the bounty of natures garden.
The natural beauty, wonderful beaches and walks & views, flora and fauna and great camping area brings me back time and time again after over 40 years of travelling to the Prom.
One of the most beautiful spots in the state. Pristine, plentiful activities and fantastic camping.
Pristine environment with the advantages of both sea and bush activities, as well as the appealing flora and fauna
Lovely tranquil environment for walking, swimming and relaxation in natural surroundings.
Excellent, always enjoy Squeaky Beach, a climb up the Mt Oberon, and shooing that ol wombat off my gear.
Long term family associations. a Wonderful place
Peaceful and relaxing. Turn of the mobile phone and you can just enjoy the wonderful natural world. Bush walks, view, beaches.
Just beautiful
What a wonderful place to take young children. The cabins were clean and functional. The kids loved every day – exploring the river and the beach. We had a dream holiday!
What a stunning part of Oz!! The walk across the bridge to Lilly Pilly walk is so good. Breathtaking views, clean air, just wonderful. Look fwd to doing it again.
How’s the serenity? Diversity reigns supreme, from hiking to beaches, from bush to sea. The Prom is the place to be.
I love the prom! – for years I have gone in the mid-year ballot for the chance to visit and stay at my favourite place in Victoria. When you are notified by Parks Victoria that you’ve been granted access to the park for a week over Summer – it’s like winning Tattslotto! – not that I’d know what that feels like – though I imagine the same giddiness inside. Once there, the place just surrounds you, hugs you and makes you feel happy and welcome. Some of the wildlife can be a bugger sometimes (et al wombats) however the beach, the birds and the babes
all make this place worth the trip. I truly can’t wait until my next trip there some time soon (I hope)…
I have visited Tidal River since my teenage years in the 1950′s and have always found it a spiritually renewing venue that epitomizes the best of natural beach culture anywhere in the world.
I have vivid memories of colorful Roselllas landing on my hat and wombats roving around at night. The scenery is inspiring and promotes happy, peaceful feelings. At night the happy murmurings of the campers blends magically with the sounds of the waves on the beach. Heaven might not be this good!
Great memories of first hiking holiday, great scenery even though weather was poor.
The Prom has to be the best location in the world, and camping at Tidal River is incredibly special. Where else could you wake up to wombats eating next to your tent in the night, or trying to steal your backpack?
I’ve been there countless times and it never gets old. The beauty, serenity, islands, diving, walking, hiking, camping……..
Always bring overseas visitors to see the most glorious place in the world
situated in one of the stunning places we have in victoria (and possibly australia) that any overseas visitors t0o australia must see
Nature at its best. Minimal impact on the environment. Great scenery and wildlife at your doorstep. Untouched beaches. Great lookouts and wlaks. What more do you need. Amazing place.
A great place to get away from the city and experience an amazing natural wilderness!
We take our overseas visitors there to see the Australian wildlife especially the Wombats with the scenery, walking tracks & only one road in & out to give you that isolation from the outside world. You can relax & enjoy the beauty of the park whilst camping in a safe environment which has all the supplies and amenities if you forget to bring something from home.It is my favourite place to camp in Australia.
By far the most wonderful place to holiday. One place where you never really want
to leave and can’t wait to get back to. So many wonderful memories of holidays spent with my children. Heaven on earth.
There’s something for everyone at Wilson’s Prom! Amazing beaches, bushwalks, long hikes, surf, wombats, natural beauty and the dim sims from the shop are the best. What’s not to love?!
Tidal River and the entire Prom area has been the place where I have had the very best holiday experiences! You can be as relaxed as you like or active, enjoy unparalleled scenery, experience our amazing wildlife. Norman Bay, Squeaky Beach. Millers Landing and the Lighthouse are just some of the many places that our family have enjoyed and remember with much joy.
Tidal RIver is one of Victoria’s natural treasures; a truly relaxing place that offers so much within easy reach: tidal river, sqeaky beach, little oberon bay, Mount Oberon, lilly pilly gully, heaps of flora and fauna
There’s no better place to camp in VIctoria, amazing beaches, fantastic bush walks and you can do great overnight hikes as well. Easily one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the world!
Without a doubt the most beautiful place in Australia! My family have been camping there for over 14 years to enjoy the winding pathways, beautiful sunsets and sun rises. We love to walk, paddle, swim, photograph, hike, sunbake, fish, float, eat, read, watch the wildlife, sleep, relax and most importantly unwind!
Memories of spending holidays at Tidal River for over 40 years. Brilliant short and overnight walks and magnificent scenery. Great relaxation with no TV.
I love the beauty of Tidal River and its closeness to the sea and bush and its access to other areas via roads and scenic walking tracks. I like the fact that there are good ammenities such as laundries and toilets within easy walking distance from everyones campsite . The general store and eateries are also handy for groceries and refreshments etc.The Prom has a multitude of attractions for all age groups.A great place to stay or make a day visit !!
It brings back beautiful memories of family holidays with children , birds, sun, sea and happy relaxing days.
A well-run park in the most beautiful part of Victoria. I like to go the re outside of school holidays and soak up the peace and quiet.
A peaceful spot much loved by all our family. Close to the river with safe swimming for little ones, and the beach with its magnificent mountain outcrops giving a sense of awe and beauty.
Travelled from Sydney in the 70s and returned so often that we ended up moving to Gippsland to be closer to the Prom. Wonderful memories of past adventures and still enjoying this truly beautiful location.
One of the most fantastic places on earth to relax and spend time with your loved ones. Nature showing itself from all possible sites, makes you feel in awe of world’s creation.
Out of season it is peaceful and relaxing. Always something to do or somewhere new to explore
A true home away from home. The Prom has inspired me to love nature and respect it always.
Best camping site in Victoria. First went there 35 years ago to enjoy the Proms fantastic bush walks.
Always beautiful and always changing; the Prom is the most incredible place.
No phones no television just a perfect place to unwind. Walk, swim, ride, just enjoy the remote beautiful scenery. Perfect.
One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Staying in a tent keeps you in touch with nature. Many tracks to walk on for beautiful views, and just an overall beautiful experience!
This is a great place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty, the kids love it here too. This place is one of Victoria’s best natural attractions.
Strike! tented there with fellow uni students in the sixties; I still remember it as the best.
a beautiful, relaxing natural environment whose cost makes it accessible to many and which evokes happy memories of my own experiences, as well as that of seeing inner urban kids exposed to ‘wilderness’ for the first time on school treks (and in the end enjoying it so much that they organized returning with their friends).
It’s simply awesome
Memories of bushwalking to sealers cove , possums stealing food and japaras steaming wet. Oh to be a teenager again!
Beaches and Tidal River are an unforgettable playground for children, and adults love the walking, scenery and views all around the Prom.
One of the wonders of the world – natural, serene, great walking, diving and swimming and close to Melbourne.
A wonderful place for a family – something for everyone. The scenery is beautiful.
The area is really to relax and enjoy.
Natural. Camping right in the bush. Great for families. No television! And you can still have a hot shower!
We camped here as students many years ago and have wonderful memories and would one day like to bring our 2 boys there. We know they’ll love it too!
A truly beautiful place to stay for the whole family, especially those who love nature. The environment offers so much – bushwalking, swimming, surfing, scuba diving, fishing – not to mention the wonderful native animals.
A truly awesome spot with something to offer everyone. World class beauty.
We have stayed at the campground many times – absolutely beautiful – one of our favourite places to sit on the beach and watch the sunset.
We stayed in your cabins as a group and enjoyed it very much,
I have travelled to many beautiful destinations around the world and WIlsons Prom has been and will always will be my favorite place in the world. It is so unique and breathtaking. Camping or staying in a cabin in wilsons prom are both amazing experiences
The Prom is the best destination in Victoria. If you want comfort you can cabin it or if you want to rough it you can camp. The bushwalks are supurb no matter what option you take.
Great place for a relaxing family break. Cabins are nice but the option to camp is also there. Beautiful walks and my husband can run as much as he likes on the trails. Gret place.
Tidal River is a beautiful haven away from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful beach, family friendly campsite with all amenities, fantastic sunsets, bushwalks, fishing and surf school. What makes it even more special is the visiting kookaburras that appear as you are cooking up a storm on the bbq. They fly from campsite to campsite watching over the cooking. Then at night when all is still the wombats come around to visit. All day the rosella’s pay a visit. One year a kangaroo went bounding past my tent in the early hours of the morning….
It is absolutely serene down there, a perfect way to unwind and refresh the mind, body and soul.
The Prom has so much to offer, wildlife, nature at its best, glorious unspolit beaches and lots of walks/hikes that can be enjoyed. The facilties and holiday activities at Tidal river keep families happy and well looked after. I have hiked into the lighthous overnight as well where the view across Bass Strait is spectacular & breathtaking. The Prom offers a world class experience that can be had on a very low budget.
Brilliant family friendly accommodation, open air cinema, surf school, friendly resident wombats, fantastic nature walks and breathtaking lookouts, love the beaches, can’t wait to explore the scuba diving! Something for everyone. Top location all year round!
Where else can your camp-site be visited by hungry wombats ?! Don’t feed them !!
A truly amazingly tranquil setting with ample camping spots to suit every desire. Love camping on the surf beach side amongst the tea trees. With only a short stroll to the beach or back around to tidal river, the total enjoyment is always ours.
Tidal River offers something for almost everyone. From basic camping to comfortable modern cabins, cafe, wildlife at your door. The meandering pools of Tidal River on one side, the open sky and white sandy beach of Norman Bay on another. Short boardwalks, hilly hikes and plenty of ranger information.
Beautiful scenery, walks that cater for the young and old and wildlife at your doorstep. You couldn’t ask for more!
Tidal River camping site is the launching place for the best bushwalk in Australia, the long, scenic trek to the Wilson Prom lighthouse. Stay at Tidal River and you can complete the marathon walk in a day – we did!
The Prom-my all time favourite place for camping, beach and walking activities. It caters for all ages and you can be as active or relaxed as you like. Spectacular scenery too and the perfect place to bring visiting friends.
The Prom is one of the most beautiful unspoilt areas of our great land,One of my sons, his wife+children live on the Gold Coast, they love exploring the Prom when they visit Victoria +say Queensland has nothing like it,everything up there is so over commercialized
Deluxe cabin – Fully self-contained unti that sleeps 6 – a double and 4 single bunks. Very well appointed, warm and comfortable. Set amongst natural bushland clsoe to Tidal River with spectacular access to wildlife, walks, sunrises and sunsets that are a must to see. Very reasonably priced and in a location that should be on everyone’s Victorian visit agenda. Peaceful, with a nearby wombat that grazes outside the door each evening. What more could you want !!!!
There is no better place to be than surrounded by the natural beauty of the prom.
A great coastal location with something for every member of the family from tots to teens and beyond.
SSSHHHHHHH! Don’t tell everyone lets keep it a secret!!!!!!
Truly supurb location, lots of activiteis in the area, great ameneties
Tidal River is a safe and relaxing place to stay. There is plenty to do for all ages and abilities from fishing, swimming and bushwalking to just the pure relaxation of the peace and quiet and a good book. A fantastic place to have a family holiday or just get away as a couple. Tidal River has the feeling of being far from the madding crowd and its one place I would always choose – shame I haven’t had a chance to go for awhile!!
The views are just spectacular. The walks definetly wort doing – just great memories!
Great Family Camping, Stunning Views, Varied and Abundant Wildlife, Fantastic Walking tracks to cater for all needs, Grand Beaches, Amazing Chances for Spectacular Photography, Accommodation caters for diffferent needs – What a place to go. Have been going there since I was a teenager – am now a young 57 year old, who will continue to visit the Prom Country for the rest of my life. ENJOY!!!!
Great landscapes that meet the pristine beeches of Victoria. Nature at its best. Fantastic to see not much has change in so many years. A place that I was taken to as a child and now take my children. We hope it stay like that for generations to come.
During WWll as a small child, I saw wild horses with tails streaming, galloping across the few open spaces on the Prom. In later years I visited as a teen ager then with my own children. As their children grew up, they now go hiking and camping across the Prom and to the Lighthouse. I love to take overseas visitors to experience the wild coast and the friendly birds. It is a place of solace and peace, refreshing the soul and mind and body
Close to home. Extremely well run with accommodation and activities for all age groups, interests and abilities
My first experience of this area was as a volunteer firefighter, fighting bushfires. I didn’t get to see much so I went back after a few months to check it out and just loved the place. I love the wildlife and the beach area. Great amenities too.
Simply stunning and relaxing with a fantastic away from it all atmosphere.
Memories of The Prom stretch back to student days when the rugged beauty of the landscape inspired many images. The magic is still there today and is the source of many creative ideas.
Lovely memories of the wonderful scenery, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful walking tracks and beaches, must come back again with the kids
Where else do you have the bush and the beach meet with such amazing surroundings? No where! The beaches are so clean and the water so crystal clear. We also have enjoyed walking down to the lighthouse and overnighting in the lighthouse keepers cottages. What a special place in the world that is!
Pure peace and quiet. No TV, so relaxing is so easy. The abundant wildlife is an absolute pleasure to watch, along with the magificent views.
Pristine beaches, beautiful blue clear water and plenty of different nature walks makes Tidal River one of my family’s favourite holiday destinations.
Between bush walking the rugged ranges and relaxing on the squeaky beaches – What better place than the Tidal River Camp Grounds to recharge the weary soul.
We stayed there with six Canadians and they, like we, were just entranced by the scenery and peace.
Sheer natural beauty in 360 degree panorama. From the beach to the bush, flora to fauna – the closest place to “heaven.”
there are know words to discribe the prom one of natures gifts, the camp sites are brillant, the new bbq’s are just family friendly. the cabins are great no t.v. the best family or couple place in victoria.
Where else in Victoria can a mother relax so much than at Tidal River. It has a shallow river for the kids to swim, roads for them to ride their bikes. Surf, sand and walks will keep the teenagers amused. The husband can launch his boat or just pull out a “coldie” and solve the problems of the world with fellow campers. Close to Melbourne, it is not a marathon drive. Whether you chose to stay in a cabin or a tent, Tidal River is a great experience for all ages, all degrees of fitness and ability.
Had a wonderful holiday here with our family. The thing we all remember is lying in our caravan and hereing the wind coming. Then experiencing the buffetting we got from it. A truly wonderous part of Australia.
It is truly wonderful any time of year and especially brilliant in spring.
My favorite get away no matter what season but i love winter at the prom less people great walks away from hussle and bustle
It’s tucked away, serene, a magical spot from which to take in all the delights the Prom has to offer.
Wow, has everything from the bush to the beach & everything in between. The walk in is amazing & can be done by adults & children easily. Lasting memories of a wonderous trek with breath taking scenery at the end. Soul restoring splender.
I’ve been going to the Prom with my family every year since I was a child. Playing and swimming on the shores of the river keep us fully occupied until we grew up and discovered the surf beach. Its beautiful all times of the year, whether its 40 degrees and the sun is shining, or in the colder months. These days I seek out the Prom as the best place for relaxing and escaping from the world.
Accommodation options to suit couples thru to large families. Beautifully situated alongside nature and its best….beach, river, bush walking tracks….Relaxation and/or action…you choose!
Idyllic, beautiful, close to the best beaches in the world. What more could you want?
Such a fabulous place to relax, take in the natural beauty and to introduce your children to (and to rediscover for yourself) the wonders of nature. From bush walks to board walks, from the summit to the sea it is just a wonderful national treasure.
What a great place for the whole family. Many happy childhood memories have been created there.
Beautiful spot to stay. You can either emerse yourself in the wildilfe in the bush or get carried away walking along the magnificent coastline beaches. You just don’t realize how honoured you are to have such a magnificent place to enjoy in your backyard.
A natural treasure! The prom has it all – bush, beach, river, mountain, the diversity of flora and fauna is astounding. With camping or cabin accommodation that does not intrude on nature, the tidal river campsite is a step off to wonderful adventure or just pure relaxation.
There might be more upmarket resorts in Victoria, but for sheer natural beauty, tranquility and the wonderful native wildlife, none can beat The Prom! No child could ever say “I’m bored” here – with wombats, rosellas, wallabies and kangaroos in their natural habitat, beaches to play on, water activities, bush walks and longer hikes to challenge the more adventurous, this is a place to truly savour. Parents will enjoy the peace and serenity of the park, and with accommodation choices for every budget, few could not be impressed with this Victorian gem. This is a place where memories are created.
The tidal river camping site proves you don’t need a five-star budget to enjoy first class surrounds. Stunning scenery greets you the moment you step out of your tent or cabin, along with the prolific wildlife that makes the prom its home. And whether you venture near or far you are treated to some of Victoria’s most spectacular beaches and walking tracks.
Sheltered peaceful camp sites, magnificient beaches, walks and views…it keeps luring us back
Natural, relaxing, beautiful location are only a few of th reasons why any would want to stay at Tidal River. With a long wide white beach with safe rolling waves offshore and many walking tracks through the untouched wilderness, not many holiday destinations would boast more!
It only needs one day here at the Prom to feel relaxed, re-energised and in awe of its natural peaceful beauty.
Accommodation offers something for every budget and taste.
What a great place to get away from it all. I have such great childhood memories of Tidal River and my children have loved it too.
A truly stunning area of Victoria with the beach a hop, skip and jump away what more could you want? Gorgeous scenery all around and fantastic bush walks to do. Kayak up the Tidal River and the kids can splash around in the water. Native parrots, wombats and wallabies can be seen at arm’s length away and the camping facilities are ideal!
This great spot combines what Australia does best – the bush and the beach. Spend a day walking inland or strolling on the sand, end it all with a meal around a camp fire, followed possibly by a film under the stars. Something for everyone. Bliss.
Living within an hours drive our family has visited the Prom many times. The scenery is fantastic and the wildlife is there to be seen. Many photograph opportunities from sunrise to sunset throughout this wonderful park. Lots of access points to beaches from the main tourist road for those who are limited with walking ability and plenty of long bushwalks for those who want them. The lighthouse has just had a celebration with its special lighting. Walks to Sealers cove and camping overnight are popular bushwalking pastimes.
You camp amongst the wildlife, birds and wallabies sharing your breakfast. A short walk to Normans Bay and the Wombats are found grazing on the hills above the beach. The smell of the clear fresh air and you feel alive and ready to go. Many wonderful walks. Sometimes you feel you are the only person there!!
An opportunity to “get back to nature”, while surrounded by stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and fantastic walking tracks. Whether camping in tents or staying at the cabins, the experience is unforgettable and uniquely Victorian.
One of the most beautiful places in the world to stay and the starting point to explore the Prom. Very affordable and a holiday destination that has something for everyone.
Fantastic spot with nature at its very best. There is wildlife, the beach, the river and walks for all fitness types!! As a child my family went there every christmas holidays and now as the years have passed i take my kids there all the time. Summed up, beautiful, can be adventurous or relaxing, wonderful for families or singles.
A really beautiful part of the world with several different accommodation options available from tents to cabins to group lodges. With the ocean and bush walks on your doorstep, what could be better!!
