“Heaven is not in the making. It is here, ready and waiting for you.” This excerpt from the Guest Book at Walhalla’s Star Hotel speaks of the beauty, luxury and superlative service at this wonderful boutique hotel. Nestled into this historic Valley of The Gods, as Walhalla is affectionately known, Walhalla’s Star Hotel is a faithful reconstruction of the opulent facade of this landmark hotel of the Victorian Goldmining era. Inside however you will find a thoroughly modern establishment. We stayed for two nights back in 1998, a few weeks after it’s opening, and fell in love with both the tiny hamlet, and this fabulous hotel. We have gone back several times a year, every year since, and intend to do so for many years to come. If you value peace and tranquility, history and nature, great accomodation and even better service, you could do no better than Walhalla’s Star Hotel.

The journey to one of Victorias most beautiful and historic valleys to a great old town with the star hotel offering comfortable accomodation, hearty food and great hospitality. One of the best places to escape for a memorable weekend.
Stayed Sept 2009. Large, spotless rooms, comfortable beds. The meals were delicious and owners were friendly and attentive. A very relaxing time.
I stayed at the Star Hotel two years ago while on a motorcycle trip through Victoria. The room was fantastic, the bed comfortable, the meals were excellent and the owners made every effort to make me welcome. I shal be returning back there on a future trip
Stayed @ Star with Partner approx 12 months ago……….. absolute piece of Paradise, the tranquility just makes it. Birds are amazing to see & hear, scenery all round absolutely picturesque & the room’s are just gorgeous. Definitely worth revisiting & recommend to anyone who wants a quiet, peaceful Getaway.
The accommodation and service is as wonderful as the historic township. Will most definitely be back!
Couldn’t get a better getaway weekend.
Absolutely fabulous, good food, drink and the host couldn’t do enough for you.
Just perfect!
Perfect. No TV. No pokies. Only the noise of people having a great time together.
We have just come back after enjoying a mid-week package from the Star Hotel at Walhalla. What a wonderful place it is! Our 1st floor room provided us the most magnificient view of the mountains. The food was out of this world and the service was impeccable.
Star Hotel must be one of the best boutique hotels we have stayed at. Highly recommended.
The charming beauty and history of Walhalla was beautifully complemented by the wonderful setting and friendly service of Walhalla’s Star Hotel. Thank you Michael and Russell for a lovely stay, fine food and great stories of the cricket team.
Walhalla is aptly translated as Valley of the Gods and the Star Hotel is the most beautiful building there with great service, style and food.
Fab place, no visit to Victoria is complete until you have stayed.
For just one night, the Star Hotel was an oasis in the lives of a suburban middle aged couple. We were warm, comfortable and richly fed by proud country hospitality.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel, is the place to stay. With amazing service, great atmosphere and with the whole town surrounding you to explore.
I would recommend anybody who wants a weekend a way to check out Walhalla, and you must stay at the Star Hotel, the gem of Walhalla.
Returned after 30 years and how wonderful to revisit, the Star Hotel staff were warm and welcoming, the town a great place to explore again. The food and wine at the Star was great
We have lived in many areas but when we came to live in Gippsland I knew I was home. Places like Walhalla’s Star Hotel only enhances your stay in Gippsland and we like to share all the wonderful experiences and places Gippsland has to offer.
Beautiful accommodation and surroundings —- a deserved nominee
It’s the only place to stay.
Walhalla is a great place to visit with its period architecture and natural environment. Close to Mt St Gwinear for an XC ski too! The Star Hotel is great!
I had to go to Walhalla for research, to try & get my mum buried in the cemertery there, she had lived there as a little girl & so had to make this sad trip. I took my girlfriend along with me, stayed at the Star hotel. My girlfriend did not want to come, thinking just another hotel, but she came to keep me company. It was unbelievable, so different & so comfy, the history around the walls just surperb, the games & books on the shelf how great that was & the beautiflul leather couches, the sign post saying to the different places, how different & well thought out, the dinning room so eligiant, the tables looking just gorgeous, the food was terrific. I loved the diffent names written on the doors, we killed our self laughing, ours was called grey horse & im a greyheaded lady, really loved the ern sitting so you could help yoursef to a cuppa anytime. so well thought out, just a pleasure to stay there, my girlfrend said you didn’t tell me it was going to be like this, otherwise i would have made a bigger effort to come a couple of days earlier, and i have written this and going to enter this into a short story competition, thats how good a stay we had, you can’t beet it anyway, I have stayed in lots of hotels my husband use to be a shopfitter and travelled all over, but this hotel is just brilliant place.
Beautiful relaxing spot, no matter the weather.
You can really feel the heart that has gone into the place
I think Walhalla’s Star Hotel is fabulous.
My how Walhalla has changed since I last visited 25-odd years ago!
It is marvellous that the spirit and feel of the old town is maintained by the new developments.
The Star Hotel is an exemplar of how it should be done. Congratulations.
Great part of the world, grew up nearby cant wait to go back, maybe the $1000 prize will help get me back there, hint, hint, lol

Intimate and very quiet. Great service and we had a relaxing night.
Literally out of this world – the perfect place to get away from it all.
Small (though not too small) intimate and very comfortable. great position in town, you get a really ‘country feel’ staff are friendly but not twee, and the host michael was very engaging
This is one of the nicest places I stayed. Felt like I was taking a step back into the past with a much more relaxed pace of life. The hotel, (food, service and staff) was lovely and the environment unique. I really knew I was on holiday.

We promote Walhalla to our US clients and they always come back with wonderful feedback. Often it is a highlight of their trip! A great authentic Australian experience.
The Star Hotel is a wonderful, relaxing place to stay in the Gippsland Mountains. If you are looking more adventurous activities Michael & his staff can provide you with the motivation to get out and enjoy all that the Walhalla Region has to offer. Highly recommended.
Lovelly accomodation in a spectacular historic town. No TV reception and no mobile phone coverage – no unwanted interuptions – does not get much better!
I travel extensively around Australia and overseas, and when I compare the Star Hotel, Walhalla, to the many establishments that I stay at (the majority being 4.5 – 5 stars) it’s as good as it gets! The rooms, the service, the food, the ambience – all magnificent!
Great place to stay
Walhalla Star Hotel is a beautiful place situated in the most amazing town. You will love the views and feel relaxed after your visit.
A great find in a great little town. History abounds and nature astounds.
great historical ambiance
After an exhiliating walk to all the sights I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the lounge area with other visitors. The “olde world” atmosphere and refreshments enabled me to unwind after a hectic week at work. Dinner was delicious, the dessert was amazing (and guilt free after all the walking I did earlier in the day!)
Well worth the visit.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel has a warm inviting atmosphere. From the moment you step inside the door, you feel relaxed and welcome.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Star to my friends or anyone else wishing to stay in simple elegance with a touch of a bygone era in the lovely old gold town of Walhalla.
The Walhalla Star is centrepiece to some of my most treasured memories. Beautiful Walhalla itself in Autumn, beautiful food and impressive service, peace and quiet and the most comfortable accomodation I have stayed at in a long time. On top, Michael (Manager) has an unmatched committment to his customers, demonstrated even today in helping me organise a suprise dinner for two for my best friend and her new husband. Thanks guys. Look forward to staying one night soon!
Stayed there last night. The experience was great. Could not fault the personal service and the overall professionalism. A great way to spend more than a day in Walhalla and really appreciate the town. A hidden gem
Great place to stay. Nice and clean. Superiorly laundered linen
Walhalla is a magical experience of times past. Let yourself be taken back to a bygone era of gold rushes and simple living in beautiful surrounds. Learn about the local history, interesting characters and a way of life so different to today. The Star Hotel is the jewel in the crown- and of course the crown is GOLD.
Quiet, relaxing,comfortable, intersting& beautiful landscape .
My husband & I came home feeeling very relaxed & refreshed . What else could you want.
The owner & staff of the Star Hotell are friendly, helpful , informative and not intrusive.
The rooms are clean and very comfortable king size beds with comfortable beds. Added little touch of a choccy of the pillow made us feel special and that customers are cared for.
The meals were lovely and the breakfast was amazing. So much choose of food was offered for breakfast and you could take your time over it, while watching the mist rise above the valley & streetscape.
The surrounding area is beautiful, picturesque and very interesting. Ther are some lovely walks to take around the town. I would recomend anyone to stay here who wants to recharge their batteries and enjoy some quiet time.
A walk about the town at night bring in a different propective ,
Carn’t wait to get back ther again some time.
Like everything in Walhalla………… beautiful !!!
Walhalla star hotel is a must place to stop on any holiday in Gippsland, very quiet, relaxing and friendly would recommend to any traveller in the area
You have to try it , words are not enough to describe it.
Midweek stay is pure bliss, you can have the township to yourself, explore this idyillic environment, walk in this serene space, Home to a very clean, classy, compact environment, lovely open fires, great food and importantly a good cellar. The accomodation is excellent and well maintained. The information Michael provides for what to do is fantastic. Your hosts cannot do enough for you, look forward to our next visit. Awesome
Walhalla Star Hotel boasts some of the most exceptional service in Victoria. My getaway couldnt have come at a better time and I am most impressed by the prompt, proffessional and welcoming way that Walhalla Star Hotel treats their customers.

Thank-you.
What an amazing little town, from the excellent service and room at the star hotel to the amazing history and pretty village. It can be understood why they say it is the town time forgot. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a very relaxing, interesting place to stay. We shall be returning with some friends, thanks you so much.
We enjoyed two nights at the hotel. It served a s a central point to a fanscinating ghost town. It was very refreshing in the amibence and offered perfect peace and harmony. The hotel room was spacious and comfortable and dinner on Saturday night was great.
just love the star hotel a great place to relax in some of Victoria’s spectacular country in the most enjoyable hotel
we are taking some friends with us next to give them this great experience
Wonderful hotel in one of the most picturesque spots in Victoria, with excellent rooms, service and mouth watering meals, this is an amazing place to rewind and rejuvenate. We will definitely return to this wonderful destination. Thanks again for a great weekend.
Fantastic! We all has such a great time, the service was exceptional and the food lovely. So good that this was our second stay and we brought our 8 friends along!
Its a warm and friendly place to stay and an ideal location to see the fascinating surrounds.
Walhalla is a beautiful little town, where you can escape from the real world for a couple of days. The Star Hotel makes the experience of Walhalla so much more.
A delightful surprise of a town where we met for a family reunion… young and old appreciated the beauty and historical interest. The cemetery on the sheer side of the valley is amazing.
So close to Melbourne and yet seemingly worlds away from the busyness of everyday life. Want to wind down quickly and make a weekend seem like a week – this is your place! A most beautiful part of our country.
My husband and I love to bush walk and found this a very nice peacefull place to stay. Away from the hussle and bussle of city life and work, great way to relax.
A truly magic experience in a village steeped in history. Lots to interest me, and my wife.
My husband and I stayed at the Star Hotel recently for a quick getaway, perfect location and not too far out of Melbourne. Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and generous sized room, the relaxing manor of the hotel and also the idyllic location! We can’t wait for another chance to enjoy some time away with the kids!
A golden place to stay, what more needs to be said!
great place to stay,really tops!
It was a lovely place to spend our wedding anniversary
Gorgeous accommodation in the most beautiful country town.
When you’ve spent the day on the back of a horse, charging through rivers and galloping over forested hills, what better place to ease off the boots and luxuriate in comfort, enjoying excellent food and wines and yarning about the good old days ’til the early hours?
it complements the great town of walhalla and there’s plenty to do
Great place for fresh air walking and relaxing. Wonderful
We loved the years gone by atmosphere and gracious dining.
It felt like stepping back in time.
As big Arnie said “i’ll be back”
Close to Melbourne and the dining room food was sensational. Very friendly owner of the hotel and made us feel very welcome
Great place
Not too far away and no big crowds. Friendly staff
You can feel the friendly warmth as soon as you arrive . It is amazing with wonderful food and the nice clean air.
It is such a beautiful place. It reminds me of Sovreign Hill, Ballarat. It is open and the children have a lot to do during the day
How wonderful to be in yesterday today and know that tomorrow it will still be yesterday, a lovely place and time.
Have driven through Walhalla and always wanted to stay there the only reason I have not stayed because their are no caravan parks there
amazing ……………
Wonderful place with a lovely ambiance and special little touches, such as the nip of port provided.
Food was excellent and all staff exceptionally friendly. Would highly recommend
What is there not to love about this place….truly magnificent and have recommended it many times to others.
Excellent Hospitality and Professional Service in a traditional setting.
Guests are made to feel very welcome, and the pride of the staff in their property and their love of Walhalla is very evident.
Russell in particular is to be commended in this regard.
Hope to visti Walhalla soon, I meet the owners during the last CEO9 and I loved their presentation, I keep my walhalla possum gift as a lucky mascot on my desk !!! Thanks and see you soon
Beautifull, serene, fantastic
STAYED THERE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND ENJOYED THE LUXURY OF THE PLACE RATHER THAN PREVIOUSLY CAMPING AND TRAIL RIDING ON HORSE IN WET WINTER WEATHER.
Stayed here late 2008, what an exceptional establishment from the food and wine to the rooms and the wonderful service, well done chaps.
What a lovely location and a superb place to stay and unwind!
Very comfortable and relaxing but go in the warmer weather as it can get very cold.
Wonderful place.. Lovely meal with families / friends… Going there again… I miss this place very much…. Very Greeny Grass, trees, River.. Nice walking around.. Went Cricket Oval twice… BEAUTY BEAUTY…. Loving it..
Simply stunning. I have never experienced anything so calming, rejuvinating or relaxing. I will be back
one of regional Victoria’s truly exceptional small hotels
We stayed at the Walhalla’s Star Hotel on the 15-15th Aug, 2009 and absolutely loved it. The service, food, accommodation and ambience was excellent. Well done to the owners.
Stayed at the Star for a conference a few years back – an oasis of civilisation in the remote bush with a superb standard of service and finishes. The operator has a great knowledge of local attractions and developed a really good country hotel that has been complemented by a great little public cafe serving excellent coffee. All up, the Star is a class act.
The building may look old on the outside but inside is modern and stylish. Good food loved the duck and local wines. You’ll enjoy a quite room with a comfortable bed. We found the staff helpful and friendly. There’s alot to do I Walhalla so I’m glad we stayed for two nights to spread out our advntures. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area
A fabulous place to stay good food & great service!
A lovely hotel for the weekend getaway!
Choose any season and the picturesque setting of Walhalla will weave its magic. Stop at the Star Hotel and be assured of a friendly welcome, thanks Michael and Russell.
I just love to stay here.
The Star is a very stylish hotel and still blends in with this historic town. There are fantastic hikes in the area for those of us who like to stay active. Beautiful fresh air and mountain streams. Just lovely.
A delightful drive to Walhalla, a lovely town to visit with lots to see and do. The Walhalla Star Hotel is a great place to stay overnight, to relax, unwind while enjoying the great food and service as well.
Beautiful location, great service, wonderful rooms and food (no potpurri and no floral )great ! calm tasteful surroundings. Had a great w/end felt longer than 2 days cheers
Romantic, restful, awesome, beautiful location
The perfect place to unwind & destress, far away from the pressure of city life where you can enjoy the peace & tranquility of one of Victorias hidden treasures.
There are not that many places left these days that can offer the tranquility of isolation (from modern pressures) yet still provide the stimulus of mind. Walhalla has many historical points of interest and a great base for treks into the surrounding ranges and just like many small towns the centre of community spirit is the hotel. And if that hotel offers a warm atmosphere coupled with good food and service then what more could one need to feel life is good. Walhalla has one such hotel.
A magical place so far away from anywhere. With no phoen coverage and no TV you are removed to another zone. And with surpisingly good food, you can` do it in comfort.
A fantastic quiet hotel, beautifully appointed rooms with wonderful staff, a delicious dinner and a really amazingly presented breakfast in a historic little town.
Divine place to stay in magnificient surroundings. The original hotel, Conlan Star Hotel, which was burnt down, was owned by my relatives.
we stayed in the star hotel for 5 days in 2007
the peace and quiet was excellent the walks were amazing and the people so nice
but i have to say every place i go i look for stickydate pudding on the menu
when i saw the star hotel had it i had to try it
now from that day on when ever i travel interstate or overseas have stickydate pudding and i use the stickydate from the walhalla stare hotel as a rating
iv been to places that come close but nothing as good as the star hotel
one last thing the drive there is easy not to far from the everything but far enough
Loved the step back in time
great place to stay. Much to see in the district.
Magnificent contrast – history one can actually breathe in, allied with every modern comfort at an hotel with wonderful 21st.century ambience. Walhalla wins!
Walhalla – a wonderful escape from the rat race. The Star – peaceful and welcoming. The perfect antidote for our crazy lives!.
Oh the joy of seeing the Star Hotel (after hiking up to the and cricket ground) knowing the warm fire, yummy food and comfy surroundings awaited me. And you I know I was right. Its fabulous
Great little town of peace and serenity. The Star hotel is a welcoming place to stay, especially after doing some of the great walks around Walhalla. We welcomed the warmth and cosiness after the hike to the cricket ground. The staff were friendly and the meals fantastic. Will definitely stay again.
Excellent meals and warm fire.
Walhalla Star Hotel’s luxury and service just caps off an amazing weekend. Go back in time when there was no TV & no mobile phones, the ultimae getaway. Just park your car and amble through this historic town then enjoy superb dining in their own resteraunt.
The tranquility of the area, the colorful and majestic trees and river gorge are only matched by the warmth of the hospitality. The night skies are clear and full of sparkling stars, which twinkle as if in glee and peacefulness. The hotel offers a warm welcome, hearty meals and a place to share a well earned rest at the end of a wonderful day.
Favourite place in the whole of Victoria to get-away for the weekend.
Walhalla is a beautiful, historical town with plenty to see and explore. The Star Hotel is atmospheric and relaxing, and their food is wonderful.
Treat yourself!
Great place to get away from it all. The food in the restaurant was excellent.
A lovely place to stay in, my partner and I really enjoyed the comfortable and stylish surrounds as well as the good food and great selection of wines.
Highly recommended.
Lovely Hotel in a really historic village – with much history in walking distance. Nice scenery abounds. The hotel is a nice cosy place to stay. We stayed 2 nights and loved it.
we had the best stay,a full weekend of things to do and the accommodation and service was fantastic
Clean, lovely place to stay in.
Brilliant to enjoy the hotel’s peace and quiet with no phones (mobile also out of range) and no TV to constantly remind us of the rat race happening in the “outside” world. So relaxing. Autumn is the recommended time to visit due to the beautiful colours of the trees/gardens.
The remoteness of the location may fool some people but for a romantic weekend away there is no better venue than the Star. The accomodation standards, food and service are well above par.
Walhalla is a stunningly beautiful place and we had 2 wonderful nights at the Star. We stayed Sunday and Monday night so that we had the town and the hotel to ourselves. The food was excellent and the rooms very well appointed. The lounge had an open fire going and we could sit down there and relax. The hosts were friendly and helpful. It was a total get away with no television or mobile phone access. We took lots of long walks and came home totally refreshed. Just a pity that I had to come back to work today.
Whenever I want to escape I head to Walhalla’s Star Hotel. Great venue in a wonderful setting. The perfect spot to relax, unwind and enjoy good food & wine.
Great place to get away with friends and unwind – very relaxing – great food and wine
can’t wait to take my family for holiday to walhalla star hotel, have a nice dinner & stay a night to relax.
Really nice getaway thank you
A lovley Hotel with great atmosphere, stayed here recently and the hospitality was excellent – especially enjoyed the Card Game. Walhalla definitely worth a visit.
Great mountain scenery and lots of good walking trails. Food is devine. Great for couples or families.
Hospitality unsurpassed at this little gold nuggett
Magical place to stay!!
Stayed recently and was made so welcome by our hosts. We did the graveyard tour followed by a trip into the mine, both really excellent. The hotel has a great atmosphere would like to have stayed longer.
A lovely little hotel: warm and welcoming. My stay wasn’t in the best circumstances as I arrived feeling very crock; but I was treated with great compassion and looked after really well. Thanks guys!
This is a unique stay. Don’t miss the graveyard tour, it will have you shivering in your boots. Also, ask Michael about the cunning trick that enabled the Wallhalla first XI to beat the Melborune Cricket Club (MCC?).
An amazing village, a beautful boutique hotel.
A great place to stay! Good food good wine good people, and the best part of all no mobile, email, tv, kids fax’s, pagers i mean seriously what more can you want! The town is a great place to explore if you have not been before!
Fabulous atmosphere and surroundings. Couldn’t fault the service all weekend. Amazing place to stay
A great place to stay, brilliant food, fabulous atmosphere. When you stay you must book in and experience a ghost tour as well.
A short visit and a meal the first time but this was enough to give me a compulsion to return; not just for the friendliness and service, but to recreate that feeling of being in a time capsule that had plunged back into the past. I loved that feeling of timelessness, of being connected into our history, and the surroundings are awesome.
The most beautiful town I’ve been to! A great place to relax and be at peace with the world. Valley of the Gods indeed!
Bonus Bonus Bonus
With Walhalla just a short drive from the Latrobe Valley. The Star Hotel is a great spot for a weekend away or for a special meal with friends.
Walhalla is one of my favourite places in all of Oz. Fresh and green – and history too. And less than 2 hours from Melbourne – the drive up through the mountains is really beautiful.
It was a wonderful place to stay – quiet yet much to do. The hosts were very accomodating, meals & wines great. Would recommend to anyone.
Great place to stay and unwind, the hosts Michael & Russell are welcoming and very helpful. They have a wonderful menu for dinner and some nice local wines to pick from.
I look forward to going back very soon!
Walhalla is a place that is very special to my family, my first overnight stay was with my Mum at The Star Hotel mzny years ago, I have been back to Walhalla since to show friends the wonderful place. Real people running the hotel, Real Food and an amazing building made my stay at The Star one of the best weekends away I have had with my Mum. Cheers
I attend Walhalla Star Hotel for a Company conference back in 2008 for 2 days. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by management and staff with such a warm and friendly welcome, everyone including the Chief came to introduce themselves.
Fantastic destination to getaway from the hussle and bussle without comprimising on quality!!
We have enjoyed the Star Hotel as a couple several times and by booking the whole place with a group of friends. Each time has been fantastic and enjoyed by all. You don’t know what to expect when you are driving into the township and then it appears like an oasis. There is so much to do, or you can just enjoy the quiet relaxation. Highly recommended!
Altho I just live in the township of Moe, Walhalla has always been a great place to sit back and relax. The Star Hotel, is the most relaxing way to also spend your night there. Even if the original Star Hotel was burnt to the ground back in 1951. The rebuilt hotel could never be better… So come on up, and say hello. Best place I say you would ever stay at.
Had a great weekend at the Star – excellent service and very comfortable rooms. Looking forward to the next stay!
I can’t think of a better place to stay to escape the hustle of the city. Peace, quiet , great food, and an interesting town to walk through and explore. The historic graveyard is a must.
Nothing is too much trouble at Walhalla’s Star Hotel. Russell & Michael are excellent hosts – loved the trees in autumn and the orchids in bloom. Yet another must do Gippsland destination.
Vote1 for Michael as ambassador. The Star’s brilliance notwithstanding, I can’t wait for a better season at BawBaw as that South Face rd cuts down the time between cozy and crazy. Walhalla is unique in itself tho, did anyone else have a problem with the loony lyrebird blocking the rd to Chinese Gdns first thing in the morn?
Off the beaten track, a fantastic place to get away, while at the same time offering an extensive wine list and some of the freshest, best tasting food we’ve ever had. The Walhalla Star was the highlight of our vacation.
fantastic place to stay.
Lots of things to do inthe area.
Friendly staff.
Great Food.
Wonderful customer service.
Ideal location and great food.
A terrific place to stay & have a relaxing time walking to the cricket pitch or stay in the hotel and have a few drinks with Russell & Michael, my family love visiting Walhalla when they come on holidays from Wales.
The Star Hotel is great. Food is great. Everyone should experience Walhalla once in their lives, it’s like no other. You will be planning your next visit the minute you leave
…5 Star Quality, 5 Star Treatment, and 5 Star meals. A lovely atmosphere in a luxurious place.
A cosy Hotel with superior food and relaxed atmosphere
A different world. Walhalla is an amazing place and The Star Hotel is the jewel in the crown. So much to do ~ ride the historical railway, explore a real gold mine, walk the tracks above the town and admire the picture postcard view. Or just relax in the lounge with a book, a coffee and the beautiful orchids. Perfect.
Fantastic piece of heritage that is a must to visit. Friendly and relaxing with good food to boot.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel is the perfect KID FREE weekend to enjoy fine dinning with great hosts our room was perfect looking out on to the bandstand, We will be back
Gorgeous and restful
Set in one of the most prettiest little towns in victoria. the hotel is reproduction of the original “star hotel” built i think in the 1890″s on the outside only. The rooms are clean and roomy and have the added benifit of no tv or phone. the restaruant is fine dining and open to guests only. Rates are mor than fair compared to other accomodation in the area. A place we will be going back to.
Great place to spend one night or more in a fabulous setting, superb food and that much touted and abused word ambience, in abundance.
Simply the best. Better than all the rest. Great place to get away from the kids and the rat race.
Great food, great atmosphere, great hosts and a perfect place to unwind.
Walhalla is so beautiful. A hidden gem in the bush. You must stay overnight – the bridsong in the late afternoon is something to hear. And the Star Hotel is the place to stay. I will be back !
Excellent meals, HUGE suite – excellent all around
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay once again. The Star Hotel in Walhalla is renowned for its ambiance , great food and service. Perfect place to relax – you can feel the stress of everyday life slowly diminishing.
Love the place been three times , better each time. Friendly service. Excellent menu.Great relaxing weekend..All good. Super host. Nothing too much trouble
great spot, beautiful place great hosts. food excellent gret value ,well done STAR!!
A beautiful hotel and town. Very restful
My family and I simply love Walhalla and especially Walhalla’s Star Hotel. Host Michael Leany is a font of knowledge on the history of the town and is very willing to share his knowledge with any-one interested enough to ask. Rarely can one experience a total submersion in the best of Victoria’s history. Walhalla is an experience not to be missed.
walhalla is the best place in gippsland for the family holiday.
i love to go there
The best place to go.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel was our favourite stop on a 3 week trip to Australia. Large, well appointed rooms and great food in a beautiful location. Owner Michael Leaney is a superb host who organised plenty of activities to entertain our 2 sons aged 20 &22. We all enjoyed the gold mine tour, 4WD trip in the surrounding area, rail journey and walks around Walhalla. We arrived wondering what we would do for 2 days and left wishing we had more time to stay.
Great hotel, great township and wonderful locals (I’m biassed: I live in Rawson and my daughter works in Walhalla). If you love treeferns and wildlife, you will possibly see the lyrebirds on the way to Walhalla and the odd wombat crossing the road at night.
This small historic village is nestled in a beautiful bushland valley, and the drive there through Warburton, Noojee and Erica is spectacular. The Star Hotel is small and homely with great service and fittings, and is in the heart of this lovely village.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel is charming place to stay. We stayed for 3 nights in spring 2008 the cherry blossoms in town was fabulous. The hotel itself is a faithful replica of the oringinal hotel the old style outside hides a modern inside! No tv or mobile which was great! Good food and many local wines to pick from the hosts are freindly and happy to have a chat, it’s very clean & tidy with large rooms with ensuite there’s also a huge book libarary to browse through in the comfortable guests lounge! Perfect for a kid free weekend!!
I have been to the Star Hotel three times over a period of five years and have never been in the least bit disappointed. I recommend both the township of Walhalla and Michael’s hospitality to all interstate and international visitors that I host, because it’s that good!
I received a wonderful, warm welcome at the end of those winding roads, and would love to stay again when I can.
Great place ta visit, the food at the Star hotal is wonderful.
Beautiful place to stay!!! We had a great time in walhalla during corroboree 09. thanks michael and staff
Greetings from switzerland. MOnika
Delightful boutique hotel, run with flair and passion by host Michael Leaney, set in the small picturesque village of Walhalla. Rich in the history of Victoria’s gold mining era and surrounded by magnificent alpine scenery.
Walhalla’s Star Hotel, is the place to stay. With amazing service, great atmosphere and with the whole town surrounding you to explore.
I would recommend anybody who wants a weekend a way to check out Walhalla, and you must stay at the Star Hotel, the gem of Walhalla.
Me three.
Weekends at the Star leave me refreshed, relaxed, and wanting to come back again – soon.
The hospitality is lovely, the rooms are lush, warm and well appointed.
My two teenage sons, my husband & I really enjoyed staying at the fabulous Walhalla’s Star Hotel, Warm & comfortable, felt homely with personal touches of the owners, The owners & staff are welcoming a bit eccentric at times but friendly and willing to help.
We picked their brains for ages finding out all about the towns history!
The hotel was very clean & tidy, the rooms are large and spacious with ensuite, a common guest lounge is a good spot to have a quite read from the book library.
They serve great meals at night & a continental breaky in the morning.
From Gold mine tours, 4wd driving, great walks and a mountain railway its has something for all of the family!
Excellent venue with great view of the rotunda. Very good service & best coffee in town.
Fabulous place. Very relaxing. Excellent food.
Walhalla’s unique charm may be that it is a moment frozen in time, a unique snpashot of Victoria’s golden mining era but staying in Walhalla does not mean staying amidst doilies and chintz, or roughing it without modern luxuries. Walhalla’s Star Hotel may be respectfully historic on the outside but inside there are king-size beds, plush blankets, private lounges, and a wonderful restaurant. The lack of televisions due to no reception, the wonderfully appointed library of books & music ensure that a galss of bubbles before the wood burning fire has never left one more relaxed or blissfully at peace. This town & this hotel are unique. If you’ve not visited, you’ve not lived.
Couldn’t agree more. Walhalla is a fabulous place and the Star Hotel makes it even better.
